While I don't doubt the good and thoughtful intentions of this video, I think it demonstrates the fundamental misunderstanding of the two economic systems and economic systems in general and how they arise. Firstly, since about 63% of the nation identifies as a Christian why could we all not vote for a system that distributed our blessings to those in need? I see no difference between giving to a charity that does such or giving to the government to act as that charity (arguments about government efficiency aside). Secondly, the core tenant of socialism is that the worker deserves what they worked for (which, as I understand, is the point being made in the video) and this lines up more with socialism than capitalism. Capitalism seeks to drive down cost and one of those costs is labor cost, so under capitalism workers by principle are not going to be paid for how hard they work or their production, rather they are paid by how cheaply the labor can be acquired and still be productive. Finally, we must understand that economic systems in theory and in practice are two vastly different things. There is likely some mix of the two systems (which is what we do now by the way) that is the most effective. Capitalism is a model/theory taught to easily understand concepts of private ownership, supply and demand, and profit. Socialism is also merely model/theory. Neither can be practiced ideally. This leads me to believe neither is right or wrong but how we employ the ideals of the systems that may be right or wrong.

But that doesn't mean you get to rip people off for profit and take advantage of their troubles just to meet your bottom line. Take it in context. Its saying work hard, but also don't be a jerk to other people. I would say there are plenty of the working poor that work extremely hard but still don't get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Does it mean the rich man is bleseed and the poor man not? Read the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.
“We work hard because we love the lord and we give generously because we love the lord.” I would prefer to think this is true I just think saying this kind of thing is definitely questionable we need to not be self righteous. I certainly am not in favor of socialism I think it needs to be evaded as much as possible, but we could actually get to a point where it seemed necessary in some regard it certainly is not ideal and should be attempted to be avoided literally as much as reasonably possible, capitalism is not flawless but I would say generally it is sharply better but if everyone is primarily not born again it actually may not make a very significant long term difference in the USA whether we remain mainly capitalistic or move toward a more socialist like system. There is only one God. We should sing the psalms.
What do you mean by this question? Can you find in any of the multitude of all the Scriptures of all times the words capitalists or socialists? When God chose His people in the old times, Israel, to be His, He called it “MY PEOPLE.” You can find this name mentioned over hundred times in the Bible. When He called His people now, in the New Testament, He calls it “My Church” (Matthews 16:18), “the Body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27), “chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (1 Peter 2:9) and so forth. Neither capitalist or socialist will make it to heaven but ONLY the children of God, born again of God (John 1:11-13), “saved through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). Make sure that you are one of those.
Ezek. 28:16 By the abundance of your trading they filled your midst with violence, and you sinned. So I cast you out as profane from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 11 “And merchants of the earth will weep and grieve over her, because no one buys their cargo (goods, merchandise) anymore- 12 cargoes of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet; all kinds of citron (scented) wood and every article of ivory and every article of very costly and lavish wood and bronze and iron and marble; 13 and cinnamon and spices and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine flour and wheat; of cattle and sheep, and cargoes of horses and chariots and carriages; and of slaves and human lives.
Wowzer so let's a say I go to the first 10 people i find sleeping on the street. I get them cleaned up, provide whatever first aid or medical care they need, then, buy 'em all cars, then pay to put em up in hotels, then drop my Amex DenaiDeuce at the front desk, for anything else they need. I didnt check first if maybe he put himaelf in that position, or stop to validate the legitinacy of their need. No I moved with compassion. Hard work is great but I know, but don't we tend to hold it with a tighter fist then?
Great vid, but Maybe this should be changed to being a video about market vs no market, not capitalism vs socialism (which can be as simple as worker co-ops) Or at least you should outline what exactly you mean by the umbrella term 'socialism'
There is capitalism greed but there is certainly socialism greed. And it's a lazy greed that's in socialism. They get greedier and greedier and lazier and lazier and so they keep voting for more aggressive people that will steal more and more on their behalf. Greedy capitalists do not necessarily have a direct impact on we the people. In fact we can so choose in most cases to take our business somewhere else. Ultimately they are hurting their relationship to God. Socialism and communism is covetousness, theft, greed, envy, and they ultimately lead to murder as they have for over 100 million people throughout world history

I wholeheartedly agree with the takes on how the individual Christian should go about the process of earning a living and stewarding that which the Lord has bless them, but it seems as though both pastors have only one way of seeing both economic systems. They see capitalism as being the system that gets everybody working and socialism as being the system that makes everybody lazy. They see capitalism as a system that will naturally workout any flaws created from it on its own while socialism as a system that is inherently evil because government intervention means taking the place of God. Both systems have their strengths and their flaws, and that is why the economy of the United States is a blend of the two.
boomers still see the world as "good guys" in the capitalist west versus "bad guys" in the communist bloc/soviet union. That's why they immediately bankrolled the war fro Ukraine without asking any of _us_ what they should do with our tax dollars. (I don't begrudge them the aide in a war of conquest being waged against them or anything... but is it too much to ask that my government spend more of the money it takes from me... on me, than on a Ukrainian?) The point is that these people can't actually see the world after the cold-war for what it is. They can't see that their own children are the victims of their short-sighted pursuit of wealth at all costs. They think that, just because the negative effects of what they call socialism were so immediate, that capitalism doesn't have any negative effects whatsoever - but they just manifest differently, and a little more slowly.
You only have to look at the UK to see how rampant capitalism has destroyed the country. Systems which were set up for the good of everyone have now been dismantled leaving the UK the poor man of Europe. When you leave God out of everything this is what happens.
Why would you not within what you preach for our lord Jesus to be within us for us to do for ourselves? Would not our Lord Jesus want us to be of him within ourselves?
Interesting thought, and I have been developing this over the past several years. I don't believe that (until Heaven), there is not one perfect political system which works for all nations. (In heaven, it will be a perfect monarchy, because we will have a perfect monarch) However, on earth, each national and regional consideration requires a different system. In short, in the Lord's providence, God gives nations the political system they 1) want (Israel asked for a king, so God gave them one), 2) which is good for the particular nation (Before kings, God gave them judges, after the exile, they lived as a province in an empire, with straps, governors, etc. which the Lord was pleased to bless.) Speaking honestly, therefore it is not the place of the United States therefore to "make the world safe for democracy" because some nations can't realistically have a republican democracy (nations like China and Russia, who, even under revolution, have never had anything less than emperors, autocrats, or one-party rule, and especially when the latter tries to liberalize, it usually results in swift collapse.) I may be wrong, and I am open to correction.
Tell me why are Walmart employees are on government assistance smh shouldn't one job be able to take care of a family sadly if you haven't worked a minimum wage job recently post 2000 please don't dismiss something you don't understand and listen to people that do. Sorry this was just sad apologizing for capitalism smh you are missing the point of why people are thinking about socialism instead 🤷🏾.
people who don't work 80 hours a week are lazy, obviously. God doesn't want us to have enough time to see our families or have any friendships at the end of our long, productive days. And heaven forbid we actually reap where we sow.
The early church sold their property and distributed the money to those in need. That is a report on what they did, not a command to do the same. Selling your property is giving up your means of earning money. This was a short sighted action on their part likely resulting from their expectation that Jesus was going to return shortly and there would no longer be a need for earning money. I assume the reason Paul was later collecting money from around the empire to take back to Jerusalem was because they squandered their wealth by selling their property.
Actually they sold thier property because the poor needed money and because if my memory serves me correctly they knew they were going to have to flee Jerusalem when the army came to destroy the temple in 70AD so that prophecy could have been a motivation but I could be off on the timeline
At the same time their system had divine authority as seen from the husband and wife who died after failing to follow the sharing rules As they were still so full of the Spirit and retained divine authority, I don't believe how they ran the group economy was incorrect per se, they would've been guided away
As a Christian who has studied Communism and Marxism extensively this video is just plain fallacious and filled with stereotypes and misconceptions. But I love yall guy's evangelical work tho
According to the bible heaven is communist everything is supplied by god, in heaven it’s not by your work you get anything it’s by obedience you get anything. Sure in heaven you work for what you have but like lucifer you will be cast out of heaven if your work isn’t aimed towards god. I am glad that you agree that socialists work hard too. Capitalism is about wanting more. Heaven is communist since god owns everything and can tear it away without a second thought. While I see why you think socialism supports laziness but you got to see how I see it as a abusive system, many people work a 9/5 6 to 7 days a week which is a employer taking advantage of other people. In this world you can’t live on 21k like you used to and you are barely paid that on a 9/5 unless you do it at least 6 days a week however if you go up I the higher-achy you get more despite putting less hours in sometimes it is cause to job is more demanding ie: managers who do CEO’s work so they don’t have to yet CEO’s make in some cases billions despite only either occasional working or not working at all. So in capitalism your wage depends on status not always how important your job is.
It is very, very, very disappointing to twist scripture just to support some needless and useless political debate. If you were born in some village in Karachi or Accra or Lagos and have struggled to make it through college, and yet you work 60hrs a week for less than $600.00 a month, while your peers in developed countries receive waaaaaaay more for a similar kind of work, you won't stand in the comfort of a studio to eschew the holiness and righteousness of capitalism. I really care less about the capitalist/socialist divide, but if a political system actively orchestrated inequity and poverty, creates wealth for a 1% at the expense of the 99%, removes God from the focus of attention, and replaces our divine duty on earth with earning wages - that is wrong. That is not from God. I also understand that the Prince of this world has taken over this world, and until the new earth and new heavens are manifest, the evil we prosper. This is why I'm not very quick to engage in a debate about early systems which have no place in the New to come. This video is neither edifying nor making an honest intelligent contribution. The Earth is the Lord's... the first greedy man who enclosed God's creation for us (Man) and called it his/her private property was the first capitalist. I will refer to the origins of capitalism in 1500/1600 Europe. Todd, I'm your big fan, but you may be falling into the same deception you warn us about. In Daniel's vision of Daniel 2, the stone from the mountain, which was cast without a hand to the feet of the image, destroyed and shattered everything and grew to fill the whole earth. When God's kingdom in manifest, all of the earth's systems - socialism, capitalism, politics, economics, false religion, will be cease to exist - Righteous capitalism or socialism.
Your pre understandings of the economic systems is completely wrong, especially on what capitalism is. The other guy reiterates that capitalism allows for the attainment of wealth at the expense of others, but that’s not true at all. Under capitalism, the rich get richer, but the poor get richer too. The business man trades his product for something he values more (cash) and the consumer trades his cash for something he values more (the product) . It’s very simple
. Creating money & credit that has no backing of any value, is counterfeiting. The Bible says we are to use sound money or a just weight & measure, to settle one's commerce & trade. Jesus & Peter agreed that politicians should not exact tribute from their fellow countrymen. .
Everything you say is wrong because from the very beginning your assumption of what socialism is is wrong. Everything is voluntary in socialism unlike capitalism. As much as you'd like state-capitalism to be socialism, it isn't.
Great vid, but... The idea that lazy people get rich in socialism is very backward The Bible verse: He who shall not work, shall not eat. is not only a Christian quote, but also a socialist tenant. This applies just as much to the lazy loafing homeless man, as the rich stockholder who retired at age 25 and spends only two hours a week playing with the market to get even richer. There is this unfortunate misrepresentation of Socialism, that we should all give each other the same amount of money, no matter if we are unemployed or work eighty hours a week. This is simply not how most proposed socialist systems are set up. Wages should be earned by hard work. 100% agree. Stockholders should not make money from producing nothing. WORKERS should own the means of production.
Could the title to this video be a false dichotomy? A category error? Capitalism is a form of free market economics. Socialism is a form of monetary or wealth redistribution. Both usually involve some form of taxation. But to juxtapose them using the comparative of opposition, i.e., "versus" is not even an accurate framing of the conversation. Surely Wretched could do better than this.
@@polarfamily6222 See, this bad theology and anthropology. Christianity came about when slavery was the only known economic system. The assertion socialism is communism and that either require atheism is just false.
@@polarfamily6222 Most of Europe is at least a bit socialist and you can believe in whatever gods you like here. I find it ironic using God to support the 1%.
So capitalism is economics and socialism is not? Economics: The social science that deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services and with the theory and management of economies or economic systems.
@@ruthdemola3258 If you enjoy economics you should check out economist Pr. Richard D. Wolff. He has a good grasp on how capital works in capitalism and the advantage over me with a life-long career in higher education.
Socialism and Communism can work, it has to be tight knitted any everyone knows each other as family or good friends. And you can have any sort of socialism you like there is many different types so you can tune it to your needs.
Yes. People are quick to accept capitalism but they just mean free trade and barter - something human beings have always, and Wil always do. Capitalism is more sinister - particularly now when the governments are protecting wrong doing with tax payers money.

This was very helpful. Thank you.
How does the verses quoted in NT support capitalism?......please get an economist on board...
I feel like you're forgetting about disturbutism
Ronald Reagan, just that name, even today, make's me a PROUD American, pride in patriotism , not the "Q" pride. Just saying.
Socialism is predicated upon covouteness, Capitalism greed. If forced to choose I'd probably go for the latter. I
There is capitalism greed but there is certainly socialism greed.
Too much freedom is evil, too much socialism is evil, basically God gets the best of both
Too much freedom to work? The commands are to work and not be lazy.
@@rebeccalindley153 yeah it doesn’t mean your employer can give you a barely living wage that keeps you in a perpetual state of working to pay rent and nothing else, there are verses about a just wage, why do you think people can’t afford to have families or buy a home for that matter
@@brandonVZ I've never worked for minimum wage and never worked in fast food. As a file clerk I made more than minimum wage. Also, the construction industry is hiring, and they have apprenticeship programs, and there are unemployment offices in every state, where you can get advice and maybe a job. There are many ways to make more than minimum wage, even if you have little to no skills.
Too much freedom?
How?
@@kylethedalek
Technically the extremely unsafe factory conditions of the early industrial revolution that killed and maimed hundreds of thousands of workers were an expression of freedom
The workplace safety laws technically limit freedom but are good and better than not having any
GOD only desires hardcore egalitarianism socialism of agape love currency! NOT greed or exploitation of others in any manner!
Perhaps we should focus on being biblicists...
Exactly why they used the Bible lol
(I don't begrudge them the aide in a war of conquest being waged against them or anything... but is it too much to ask that my government spend more of the money it takes from me... on me, than on a Ukrainian?)
The point is that these people can't actually see the world after the cold-war for what it is.
Why would you need that many pencils
Why would you not within what you preach for our lord Jesus to be within us for us to do for ourselves? Would not our Lord Jesus want us to be of him within ourselves?
Interesting thought, and I have been developing this over the past several years. I don't believe that (until Heaven), there is not one perfect political system which works for all nations. (In heaven, it will be a perfect monarchy, because we will have a perfect monarch)
However, on earth, each national and regional consideration requires a different system.
In short, in the Lord's providence, God gives nations the political system they 1) want (Israel asked for a king, so God gave them one), 2) which is good for the particular nation (Before kings, God gave them judges, after the exile, they lived as a province in an empire, with straps, governors, etc. which the Lord was pleased to bless.)
Speaking honestly, therefore it is not the place of the United States therefore to "make the world safe for democracy" because some nations can't realistically have a republican democracy (nations like China and Russia, who, even under revolution, have never had anything less than emperors, autocrats, or one-party rule, and especially when the latter tries to liberalize, it usually results in swift collapse.)
I may be wrong, and I am open to correction.
Thank you, Todd, for doing God's work and only allowing Ticonderoga pencils on the set.

Does the text state that they sold ALL of their property?
Actually they sold thier property because the poor needed money and because if my memory serves me correctly they knew they were going to have to flee Jerusalem when the army came to destroy the temple in 70AD so that prophecy could have been a motivation but I could be off on the timeline
@@livenotonevil8279 - No, but I don't see that as important. Property sold reduces wealth, it's a short term solution.
At the same time their system had divine authority as seen from the husband and wife who died after failing to follow the sharing rules
As they were still so full of the Spirit and retained divine authority, I don't believe how they ran the group economy was incorrect per se, they would've been guided away
"Storing up treasure in heaven " is not in vain.
Both are materialist concept and both are hostile to christianity
Oh man it’s bad when we think regan is a real conservative
Who is a real conservative?
He is the model, and why we're in the mess we are.
The idea that lazy people get rich in socialism is very backward
The Bible verse: He who shall not work, shall not eat. is not only a Christian quote, but also a socialist tenant.

When you include the fact that socialism (and communism) require a total denial of God and His authority then the title makes more sense.
@@polarfamily6222 See, this bad theology and anthropology. Christianity came about when slavery was the only known economic system. The assertion socialism is communism and that either require atheism is just false.

Yes. People are quick to accept capitalism but they just mean free trade and barter - something human beings have always, and Wil always do. Capitalism is more sinister - particularly now when the governments are protecting wrong doing with tax payers money.
