"How long can we look at each other Down the barrel of a gun?" This will always fit to humans, humans are aggressive... but John Farnham gives me hope, "We're all someone's daughter, We're all someone's son", let's unite.
I love this song - I remember when it came out, and had it on my Walkman when I was out and about. Here in Scotland, there is a saying 'we're all Jock Tamson's bairns' - we're all someone's child. We all come into the world the same, so to be be blunt, your own arse is wiped by someone else for far longer than you would care to remember - so how are some folk better than others by that unavoidable measure. 2025 - I have just finished reading John Farnham, The Voice Inside which my husband bought me for Christmas. It is a well told story of this amazing man's life and a reminder of the incredible music he has made. I have been fortunate enough to see him live on a few occasions, each time in awe of his incredible voice and stage presence. This song is his masterpiece and (in my opinion) the greatest song ever released by any artist 🎶
I'm 36 I remember when I was a kid this song coming on the radio my father would always sing it, you see we are from Portugal and he didn't know English at all so he just singes the oh oh part 🥴☺️
No outro dia ia no carro e apanhei esta música quase a acabar, adorava isto quando era miúda mas na altura não sabia inglês. Então fui à ferramenta do Google cantarolar a musica e encontrei-a finalmente.

The lyrics We have the chance to turn the pages over We can write what we want to write We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older We're all someone's daughter We're all someone's son How long can we look at each other Down the barrel of a gun? You're the voice, try and understand it Make a noise and make it clear Oh, whoa We're not gonna sit in silence We're not gonna live with fear Oh, whoa This time, we know we all can stand together With the power to be powerful Believing we can make it better Ooh, we're all someone's daughter We're all someone's son How long can we look at each other Down the barrel of a gun? This song is a genuine masterpiece. The 80s was and always will be the dominant music genre. The words have never been so meaningful! Choreography of the whole thing is just incredible and my personal opinion, when the bagpipes come in that’s when the goosebumps kick in. My goal as a future dad will be to never let the 80s die.
'The 80s was and always will be the dominant music genre' - nope. It may have been for you, but for a person of say, 70 years old it was the 60's/70's, for a person of 22 it was maybe 4 or 5 yrs ago. It seems to be whenever you were young and alive and unencumbered by career or mortgages or children etc and everything was an adventure or party - that's when you thought YOUR music was the best, most meaningful, pressed all of your emotional buttons. Anyone who was 16-25 in the 50's, 60's, 70's etc believed their decade was the best for music, and it was as true for them as it is for you.

@John Farnham wow i got a reply from you!!! :-) Well I actually just became your fan overnight last night, and i am from Saigon. Have you been to Saigon?
I love 80s and 90s music. When you listen to the their message, a message that they came to before the invention of the internet and all the bullshit that came with it, still rings true. It shows me that humans were pretty much the same back then as they are now.
Good post. I think the internet have destroyed Humanity. Its true, or at least keeping lower-middle class exited with clips and funny stuff on the internet. I grew up when normal people stopped outside the grocery store to talk 20 mins asking normal questions. Now people are afraid, manipulated from internet, goverments, psychos playing on other people getting afraid. People sitting home analyzing things. Today I saw a guy in our truck, he was watching 400 clips in 20min on the way to the customer. Hes neck was like the letter L and His brain had transformed into a maximum of 3 seconds memory thinking the rest is deleted from internet. Anyway good song.
This song is even more amazing when you watch John Farnham : Finding the Voice...how hard he had to fight to be taken seriously in Australia let alone overseas! He never gave up, even when the odds were stacked against him! And this song, on such a shoestring budget, would become the Voice of our Nation! Thank God for Johnny and his mates!!

The Greatest singer the United Kingdom and Australia ever produced, if only the UK had seen sense and made John Farnham an icon in the UK, rather than the UK's self obsession with American Music. 🇬🇧 🇦🇺

Nothing is going to beat this man in terms of talent. John Farnham is probably the greatest Australian act we have ever had. I wish more countries knew of this man's existence, because he changed my life and i wish people knew just how much he inspired me creatively.

The lyrics
We have the chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh, whoa
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh, whoa
This time, we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing we can make it better
Ooh, we're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh, whoa
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh, whoa
Ooh, we're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh, whoa
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear

Oooh man, you need a lot of air to sing this song😅
This song is a genuine masterpiece. The 80s was and always will be the dominant music genre. The words have never been so meaningful! Choreography of the whole thing is just incredible and my personal opinion, when the bagpipes come in that’s when the goosebumps kick in. My goal as a future dad will be to never let the 80s die.
Song was played during freedom marches. He violently disagreed with it he said. Fk him the commo
@user-vk2wp4ot8h bread and circuses. Don’t you see what’s going on
The 80s were a decade, not a genre.
@@redstrat1234 So then you know exactly why you didn't need to respond.

I love 80s and 90s music. When you listen to the their message, a message that they came to before the invention of the internet and all the bullshit that came with it, still rings true. It shows me that humans were pretty much the same back then as they are now.
Amen! 🙏
indeed
There is a reason the bible is still relevant today
I feel this too. But maybe it's simply because I'm getting older.

This song is even more amazing when you watch John Farnham : Finding the Voice...how hard he had to fight to be taken seriously in Australia let alone overseas! C'mon mate the UK recognise nothing we ever put out there check out the brilliant artists we've produced over the years and the pommy snobs still hold the notion were just discarded convicts
Actually this song was written by two Brits and originally performed by Chris Thompson, a Brit.
fttt…What a joke, not sure where you got that from. Check the top 10 bestselling arrtissts popular music history 70% of them are English, not American- That's despite only having 15% of the population size(England = 55,000,000)

The Beatles.
Black Sabbath
Queen
Elton John
Radiohead
Phil Collins
Eric Clapton
Sex Pistols
Motörhead
Mark Knopfler

And of course John Farnham, who was originally from Dagenham in Essex.
