I hadn't realized the fan may be the culprit of horribly loud noise and less vacuum. I thought it was the motor seizing. This is great to know my 40+ year old Kirby will be happy again!
I hate those gray Lexan fans. They don't hold up too well. I had one blow up on me one time when using a Heritage in hose mode. I almost always replace them with the white ones they make now.
So is the grey or gray fan always as much as futile/garbage even if in good codition? Or is it simply that the other amodel one is for what it is worth- a better/improvement?
The gray fans breakdown over time, if they are still in good condition with no cracks there isnt a point in replacing them unless you are already pulling the case apart. In that instance they are cheap enough you may as well just change them out, I think they run 15 bucks or something like that from amazon, its been a while since Ive bought one.
Hey Hank, I Would Rather Do MotorWork On Any Of My Favorite Newer Late 1990'S Direct-Air Hoover Legacy,Elite,Dimension,Dirt-Finder,TurboPower,AndSoft-Guard Series Direct-Air Hoover Elite-Style Uprights Because They're Alot More Simpler For Me!

This is why I replace the grey Lexan fans whenever I get a Kirby with one in it. This G4 turned out good!
Thanks for sharing that wrench location and other details.

Those Lexan fans are so brittle , I’ve lost count how many I’ve replaced
Are alu,inum/aluminium originally called Alumium- fabs or impellers better?if even able to for anybody be even acquired still? Better than lexan ones?
