If you have a family BCP is a huge cash back card. We spend at least 600-800 per month on groceries alone that’s $35-60 per month and that mega adds up.
The AAA daily advantage is a better card when you take annual fee into account (plus the annual grocery limit is 10k for the AAA but only 6K for the BCP)
I have both the BCP and the Morgan Stanley BCP to cover groceries (due to the $6k limit). Gas and streaming (which includes Google FI) go on the MS BCP so that I can get the additional $100 cash back with $15k spend. I try and hit (15K extactly so that I can optizmize to other cards). I can usally get close to 4% cash back after subtracting the annual fee.
BCP giving 6% back on groceries and streaming is huge, and the 3% gas when I'm not getting more elsewhere. Plus the Hulu/Disney credit every month pays for the fee. I have a family of 4, so if your single, yeah groceries may not be as big a deal thus nerfing the card. Only Amex card I have, supplements my Chase setup perfectly.
I mean, even if single I think the BCP could be worth it. Im single and dont spend more then maybe 240 dollars a month on actual groceries, but I also buy gift cards at stores. but maybe even then i would have been better off with the BCE?
I have the Amex BCP And live in a 4 person Household spend $495 To $500 and sometimes Over $600 in groceries And you have to put gas In your car so I love this Card and I also use the Capital one savor one card
I've only had the Original Blue Cash for 20+ years and don't think I'll ever get another AMEX; too easy to just pay property taxes to get past the annual $6,500 spend (sort of like annual fee) to earn the higher 5% cash back up to $50k spend at grocery, gas and drug stores.🏆
🏆 You mean to tell me you’re not going after the Kehinde Wiley Centurion????? 1. Finish line with Amex when I have a bonvoy Biz and multiple Bonvoy Brilliants. 2. Depends. What have you seen with regards to upgrade offers? I’m kinda looking to protect my 5/25 status, but also work my way through green, gold, platinum
I fly Delta all the time and love their service, only one time experience in the Minneapolis airport was weird so I will avoid flying through there. So I have the Amex Reserved Card. I get a companion certificate to not only the US but also to Mexico and the Caribbean. That could be worth the annual fee by itself. Lounge access is great. I like eating and drinking at the airport to relax before catching my connecting flight. The last time I was at the new Centurion Lounge in Atlanta and I paid zero dollars for my 2 hrs+ stay. In the past, I would have paid at least $70 for that time at the airport between food and drinks. So again, another good reason to have the Delta Reserved card. And of course, not to mention flying first class using Miles was great this Spring. So, I love having this Amex card. I pair it with Amex Green for restaurants and then I transfer them to my Sky Miles account. Nice. And I also have the Amex Preferred Card for Groceries and gas for cash back. Maybe not the best trifecta, but it works nicely for me 🏆- Thank you!
🏆 I do contract work overseas. I have the Amex Platinum but it's extremely difficult to get value out of it outside of the USA. As it bills itself as one of the premier travel cards you'd think that it would try to appeal more internationally.
A setup that's worked well for me is Schwab platinum and BCP (w/ a Players 2 and 3 for groceries, gas & streaming) on the personal side, and Plum on the business side. The Plum's "no interest for 60 days" has done wonders for the business cash flow and provide me a much better "value" than MR points that I'd get w/ a Business Gold, for example.
Yeah I’m not risking it with the Amex Hilton cards. Will start with the honors express later this year and will slowly climb the latter to aspire in a few years.
I’m a corporate pilot and live half my life in marriotts and Hilton’s. Check out what Hilton is doing instead of .005 $ per point it’s slipped. I calc it’s worth .0035 now for Hilton. Makes my Hilton Amex less than a 2% anywhere but at Hilton.
Got the Platinum right before Amex changed the rules, so I’m skipping the gold and the green. Don’t really use Marriott (we prefer Hilton), so don’t see a need. I’ve held off on the Hilton cards for now because I am working on the Chase eco-system and trying to avoid 5/24. Business cards are tempting, but holding off for now. I am in “hold” mode on Amex.
Great video Sebby! If you are team travel, I can definitely see only focusing on the AMEX MR and hotel cards. There are plenty of other banks with fantastic cash back cards. Personally, I get a lot of value from the BCP for groceries and streaming.
🏆I'm pretty much done, as I've no interest in most of the business cards (too many coupons, too high spend) or cashback cards. I've already gotten Platinum/Gold/Green/EDP/Schwab Investor/Hilton no-fee, and keeping the Delta Platinum, Hilton Surpass, EveryDay and BBP long-term. Aspire was on the radar before the refresh, definite skip now, along with the Delta Reserve. Missed the boat on the other flavors of Platinum.
Sign up bonuses are a one-time consideration. There is a lot more to consider when choosing a card. I like your info, but I think in this video you may be putting too much emphasis on this one aspect. Most people plan to keep the card for years and not churn them to keep stacking SUB's. I don't travel though, so maybe my outlook is just biased away from trying to stack up points.
🏆 I pretty much in the same boat as Sebby, except that I have the Hilton biz but not the bonvoy biz. Being in the military and af waived on personal cards, I’ve maxed out the 5 personal cards/biz and half way on their charge card with 5 platinums. I’ll be done after I cancel my delta gold biz and get the Bonvoy biz.
The BCP also gives 6% back on any Apple App Store and subscriptions. I have it but don’t think I’m going to keep it. Audible getting taken out of the platinum credit makes it so Hulu is the only thing I can use it for. It makes that card much less valuable
What’s a good way to apply for the Green Card then Gold then Platinum card to get the sub for each? I don’t plan to keep each card, might cancel them all. Just don’t want to be in pop up jail when moving up the ladder.
From AE I think the Marriott Brilliant is not worth the hype anymore. I used to have it and went as far as cancel it (yes, sorry Sebby, I did cancel it). The status means nothing here in the US and most of the continent to be honest. The credits can mostly be had with the other cards in the stable and the free night hardly justifies the fee. All and all I was disappointed after they raised the fee of this card.
Well I agree with not worth the hype but doesn't mean you can't justify it. I would get two if I can and I am very happy with that card year in year out.
So I'm a newbie to the CC points world. My main card now is my Venture X and I have about 60k points so far. I have a trip planned for Turkey in a couple of months. What's the best way for me to maximize points on it? Through the Capitol One portal or transfer elsewhere?
Im pretty happy with my current AmEx cards: Gold, Green, BCP, & Marriott Busines I also just snagged the BBP with a 50k sub on $8k spend! 😁 The only other personal AmEx card i really want is the Hilton Surpass. On the business side i want the business Platnium, Amazon business, & Plum. Maybe the business Gold.
That's pretty wild to hear you're at the end of applying for Amex cards. I wonder if they'll approve you for bonuses on cards you canceled a long time ago
For me Hilton Honors cards are the only AMEX cards that I'll get and continue to hold on until they go bad. I really don't want to go through AMEX coupon book every month to make sure that I'm getting the most out of the annual membership fees with gold and platinum cards. So, all the other MR-earning cards are also nono for me. I'd rather get Chase Ritz Carlton card instead of AMEX Marriott Bonvoy cards. I rarely fly Delta because there's no hub near where I live.
🏆 I'm good with Amex once I get the Gold, Platinum (any flavor) and maybe run the Delta gauntlet starting with the Delta Gold. I have the Surpass and Aspire and I think I'm good with those. I doubt I'll need to work around the five-card limit. 11k on a Pepsi? I'll sell you one of those! Think of the points you'd get!

🏆 so the Sebby unboxing Blue Cash Preferred isn’t coming? lol. I haven’t started with AMEX yet. Although the Hilton offers were good, I just haven’t decided where to go yet.
One of the “cash back” card I’ve opened and kept has been the BBP solely to hold on to my memberships reward points . Most of my spend is with Chase (for Hyatt ) so I only have a Platinum or Gold open half the time
Hi Sebby! do you think the Hilton Honors Surpass the best credit card to sign up for if I plan to spend 28k at a Hilton hotel venue? 155k sign up plus 12x points for Hilton charges. Could potentially be 491k points total plus free 5th night and another free night for 15k spend. This could be 5-6 nights in bora bora, Maldives, etc. At least 5-6k in hotel nights. What do you think? Just worried Hilton points aren’t as valuable. Would be my first Amex
One catch is you have to book those hotels super early. The standard rate in those properties run out quickly (book a year ahead!) premium rate reward is ridiculous.
