Kai brother we are so happy to have you with Nightwish, you are amazing. I can imagine a lot of people that think they are great drummers will watch this with their mouths hanging open, saying, How is that even possible?
I was once told that metal has its own swing. Sometimes I find that hard to believe, but when I see him play I know its true. Seems like every little fundamental thing about good drumming comes together with him. He could play this with just the kick, hi-hat and snare and it'd probably still sound cool. But using every little piece of the kit exactly when he wants and all the little tricks to stay in time comes together. Kudos to Jari Maenpaa for writing such a killer song for Kai to showcase why he's so cool.
I recently had a chance to have two days of drum lessons with him, it was great. Especially this song is a great example about what Hahto has to offer. He has a fucking long career in extreme drumming and has successfully combined multiple styles of drumming to fit in extreme playing. He totally is one of the best in the current metal scene.
Not gonna over exaggerating but clearly he is Finland's best drummer in a Rock Band. Other drummers are great but Kai is on another level with Percussion.
Hahto, Carey and The atomic clock Hoglan for me. Got chills to see you putting Hahto and Carey together.. IMO Carey might be the goat.. and imo Hahto is somewhere there in Top3 with him.. Haake might be better than Hoglan, but to my preference Hoglan first..
Of course the best part of Kai when Jari sings "I sacrificed everything just for one moment. I throw away everything that matters to me the mo..ho ho..ho..osst!"

Oh NOOOOO it has that godawful Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence snare tone where you can hear a pitch noooooo ugh that shit makes drums unlistenable for me
@@Paapyna He is listed as member but he hasn't played with the band since 2015 and to me going from Wintersun to Nightwish in terms of druming is a downgrade for him
@@desape Well, drummers need to pay their bills too. His talent is still very much in use with Nightwish. Their stuff is technical enough, but might not be as fast. However, in the end speed is hardly the only thing that makes a great drummer. Wasting his talent would be to risk taking a regular job between gigs with Wintersun, just to pay the bills. And yes I work in the music industry and have a bit of knowledge on the subject. Just because people know of a somewhat famous band does not mean the members earn enough to support themselves and their families without some other form of income. Especially since record sales money is pretty much gone since 2004. I know of many great musicians with talent beyond belief who had to abandon their dreams of being professional musicians, and now instead have to work as postmen or are shuffling around on factory floors somewhere. Just because they either bet on the wrong band, or never took the chance of playing with well established famous bands when given the shot. It doesn't take much to lose your dreams as a musician. Hardly anyone gets to do it full time for long.
@@GAIS414 i really like what you just wrote...i saw an interview with Kai from a couple of weeks ago and he seems to be verry happy with things as they are now...sure wintersun stuff was more technical but with NW he gets to play for exponentially more listeners, live and studio
How do you not get it? Wintersun is great and my preferred band by far out of the two, but Nightwish's popularity is on a whole another dimension. There would not be very many Finnish metal drummers who would not instantly accept the Nightwish gig if it was offered to them. Do you not understand how big of a move this is career-wise for him even though he is "wasting his talent" because Nightwish music isn't as technical as his old band?
hes the most underrated drummer on the planet.
This is absolutely underrated. I thought I'd seen everything, but this is on another level.
Kai brother we are so happy to have you with Nightwish, you are amazing. I can imagine a lot of people that think they are great drummers will watch this with their mouths hanging open, saying, How is that even possible?
Bloody hell. After the video I was exhausted. Kai is such a beast.
i smoked a cig after the video
King Hahto-absolut stunning.
Say Absolut with hot potato in mouth 😄

I wish I could like this twice.
An absolute master of his craft! Incredible 🤘
Most underrated smiling out of control washing machine at spin.
Best of the best drum Solo ever MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG love you style
At 12:12 it looks like Kai feels he needs more challenge so he decides to start playing hihat, too, in parallel with double bass.
Such a underrated drummer
He's got power, style, and finesse.
One of the best drummers on this planet. Might be the best.
Just WOW!!! It's unbelieveble !

He leaves a girl breathless.
@@SandraNelson063 He leaves 99% of viewers speechless..
wtf. I knew he is good, but he is even better than I thought. Finnish compliment: Not bad.
This is really fun to listen to and watch. Kai is pretty awesome.
Friggen what a drummer man! Legend!!
Ridiculously good!!
From 6 years ago...how time flies.
11:38 kai having a civilian moment thinking "wait this song is actually amazing"
Man, that is tight playing. So clean.
Awesome! i started cramp after 2 minutes just watching this!
Not gonna over exaggerating but clearly he is Finland's best drummer in a Rock Band. Other drummers are great but Kai is on another level with Percussion.
Easy, way on his own league.
Kais face while drumming is so fun to watch. Most drummers make really ugly faces, Kai just looks relaxed.
Drumgod!
Jari making his drummer play blast beats for 5 minutes straight haha
He is known for being very strict on his fellow bandmates. 😅
Rumor has it... That Kai's limbs each have their own brain.
I can't promise I won't steal that.
wrong title. should be "Kai doing high intensity cardio"
I bet he feels like he has just finished a 5 K run.
when i took lessons from kai, he said that after a show he feels quite tired but could still do another go right after. he is a machine
@@Drummer12ify For a marathoner, a 5 K is just a warm up.
machintelligence yup

The master or drummers !!!!!!🙏🙏🙏👑🇫🇮
One of Jamie’s (of ulcerate) favourite drummers. ❤
KAI HIHTO !!!! BEST DRUMMER!!!
0:47 i love this part 🤘
Kai Hahto, Dan Presland, and Danny Carey are top 3 of the best drummers for me
Hahto, Carey and The atomic clock Hoglan for me.

It's Hahto, Carey and the all time GOAT Neil Peart imo.
Playing for Nightwish must be like lying back and soaking in a tub for this man.
Of course the best part of Kai when Jari sings "I sacrificed everything just for one moment. I throw away everything that matters to me the mo..ho ho..ho..osst!"
Just ridiculously tight drumming
THE beast!
Ever wondered why drummers - especially metal drummers always seem so fit? That's why. Dang, that leg work alone is worth a month of leg day.
11:16 Just look at that lightning fast right hand taking over the beat for a moment
What a beast
Impresionante 👏👏👏
Understatement of the century.
If you pay attention, you can actually see his hands leave the ends of his arms. That's the only explanation.
He is incredible one of my favorites is why is playing in Nightwish
He just throw his limbs all over the place and lands them perfectly every time.
I'm not a drummer but those off beats on the snare at 1:36 with everything else going on pretty cool.
Kai Hanto... kiitos 🙏
The machine .....
He knows how to use Crash Cymbals Ride and China´s.
I love his playing so fucking much
At 7:19 - I have no memory of this drum bit...
He improvised there.
Never knew Sean Bean could slay the drums
Splendid.
Exit door is close...in case Kai's drum goes on fire
At 10:22 when the video guys says to the other camera man that you are watching and the camerman clicks your pic.
I was super excited watching Kai's play and the expression on my face must have looked too funny
Kai
my man, he never disappoints! So good.
Nyt on upeeta!
I wonder if he inspired the other drummers there or if they got the feeling they have 10 years daily practising to get close.
Been playing (mostly prog metal) on an e-kit at home for a couple years. Kai's stuff is wayyyy beyond whatever capabilities I've amassed in this time.
This takes more than 10 years for practicing, most people can’t get this good in a lifetime tbh
Kai💪👍👏👏👏👏👏🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
Kai the Octopuss
"Das Tier", der Kai !!!
my man!
The sound..
That drum set is going to feel sore for three weeks.

thank god its a single bass drum. the double bass pedal has killed drumming imho.
He's doing it with a single pedal, sure.
lol how is this a single pedal
Are u f*cking blind? u don't see that left pedal, and shaft moving? yes it's single bass drum, but with double pedal!
