    Thanks for ripening tips. We had loads of fruit on your papaya tree this year. The wasp kept laying eggs in them. I guess I should have tried to bag the but there were just so many and they were all so close together.

      Thank you and no problem Paula! Yeah those papaya wasps are very sneaky. However, iv'e noticed that if I water my trees any day that we don't have rain, they go away completely. When the trees are properly hydrated they seem to have higher immunity to pests. Reminds me of the wise words of Paul Gautschi. Thanks to 4 inches of crushed oak leaves my trees are doing much better than when I used to hand water them daily. Thanks for watching! And keep making great gardening videos yourself. I really enjoyed watching you grow Rocky.

    Hello, and thanks for the information. My papaya are so beautiful as they grow, but the outside starts to get round rot circles immediately when they get about one half yellow. I haven't seen any wasps or bugs. It seems like a disease. I'll start using your method now. In another city where I lived the insects attacked my fruit as it got ripened.

    I have to beautiful papaya trees and they both give many many papayas but they don’t ripe , they go from green to rotten , either when they are still on the tree or if I cut them and do what you suggest on this video , they wet yellow patches and and still green and hard at the same time , they never mature evenly, it’s a shame because the trees make a lot of papayas but they are good for nothing, they give papayas the whole year round but they are not good. Any advice ? Please :)

    I had a paw paw tree and it grew to 5ft then it went soft and fell over it was like hollow don't know what happened any ideas? cheers I am in Perth WA

    • @Gloria-oj9gp
      @Gloria-oj9gp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand that papaya is normally hollow inside what would be called "the trunk" of the tree....I look at it as more of a "weed," not a true tree....I understand that it is (a tree), but it's physically closer to a weed....

    • @MrJoshcc600
      @MrJoshcc600 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You maybe too far north to grow them. It's a tropical heat and humidity loving tree so anything below 60 is irritating and below 35ish will kill it even for a short moment

  • @grandmajab1
    @grandmajab1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Where are you located? they seem to grow so quickly. there is such a big difference in this year & last year. what is the lowest temp they can take? I saw them growing in Hawaii & that is where I learned to love them. B ut I'm in Ca,

    • @Grow_Everything
      @Grow_Everything  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I live in South Florida so we get plenty of hot humid weather which is what most papaya trees love. This particular variety can with withstand temperatures as low as 32 degrees fahrenheit for a few hours, so it's not very hardy. However there are other types such as the Chilean Mountain Papaya that withstand temps as low as 20 degrees. Thank for watching and feel free to ask questions! :)

    • @Grow_Everything

      I personally have found that if they are harvested fully green. They will be much less sweet. The window for early harvesting is quite slim.

      Best with another ripe fruit to add Ethylene - a natural ripening hormone found in all fruit.

    Consider your safety, for those papayas are way too-tall. You'll never see plants that tall in a commercial operation. Dwarf them! They'll sprout side stems at that lower hgt. & continue fruiting. I'm in Punta Gorda, FL but have grown papaya for decades, from Homestead-2-St.Pete. Always ask an old Latino Grower about PAPAYAS, or UofF/Extension Service, as they REALLY know papaya. No tomato-in-a-bag needed! :-) Never ever seen that before, & never have needed it. Most Growers spray the fruits (you decide with what))) against that SOB wasp. I plant a close grouping of 3. Since they're all "gals", I figure their happier chatting :-) Btw, falling off a tall unsteady picking ladder can sure ruin your day.

    • @anoldladi
      @anoldladi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not usually. but i have a special small papaya tree with a universal flower that has both m & f functioning parts. It produced six (kind of small) fruit this year on its own. I got the tree at greenthumb. I saw a similar one at Lowes that also said no need for pollinator" on the hang tag. California. So far tree is less than 4' tall and in a good-sized wooden planter.
