For everyone auditioning for something for the first time, here are some tips if u are nervous: Be confident and make sure you practice your audition song and monologue (if needed, sometimes you just need a song) until you are 100% confident. When choosing a song find one that matches your vocal range and shows off what you can do. Make sure to practice in front of other people, even if it seems embarrassing.

I played Ms Mayor when I was 17 (2 months ago RIP), and it was the most fun I ever had!!! Before we started, I was really conscious of my skills and always refused to show it off, but I guess this production changed me for the better 😅

Oh this brings back such fond memories. I did this last year with a bunch of younger kids, and during the part where it slows down, I was the only person who sang it correctly on tempo (the director applauded me for it), and everyone else was off, and had to slow down. XD

I teach theatre and over the summer we have week long camps. The student I cast as Mr. Mayor had to back out the day before the show so I stepped in to play the role. I really gotta thank him for that. I love this song more than chocolate buscuits!

I got to play mrs mayor and everytime I said “I’m his wife” someone backstage would say “sadly”. The person who played mr mayor was gay so it would be so awkward But I’m happy for my role. The date for my play is coming up so I’m really excited
I'm guessing your referring to all the rest of the dialogue that appears in the musical, because I assure you these songs are a part of it. But yeah, I can see your point: There is much more to this musical than these recordings would have you believe.
+MCBlenderGeek In all honesty, I'm not as big a fan of the Broadway version of the musical myself, primarily because of the various subplots that the Jr version removed e.g. The Military subplot. Honestly, what the actual hell is a military subplot doing in a musical based on books that are primarily targeted towards children? Feels out of place to me. That being said, it was the Jr version that I performed, so maybe I'm just biased in that way. I just think that the Jr version captured the magic of Seuss better IMO.
Jackeroose98 we're definitely going to be biased toward the version we performed, but I think that (at least in the licensed version of the show) the military subplot is kind of necessary. It paints the military as an oppressor of imagination and gives the show another conflict. I feel like Solla Sollew has much more emotional weight when it's also about Mr and Mrs Mayor wishing their son was home with them
Last year I was the cat in the hat and I absolutely loved Seussical, I also happened to learn everyone's lines so I got an award! Now everybody who was a part of it look back and hate it. Things aren't going super great because Seussical was my only source of friends...
Just keep going one day at a time and remember there are other people going through similar things. I'm one of few people who likes to always sing out, even when I'm just wandering around. My classmates give me sideways looks like "Seriously?"
Anyone else have a gay mr. mayor? Ours is much more fabulous than mrs mayor! He's so dramatic and I love it! Im a bird girl, so to keep people in character, backstage I would go up to them and act as my sassy bird girl character Id come up with. I went up to the mayors and leaned to mrs mayor. I whispered "I dont want to alarm you, sweetie, but I think your husband might be gay. No no, honey, I swear! I've seen it before. He's only staying for your son. Why do you think he's so eager to send him off to military school? I'm telling you, as soon as Jo Jo's out of the house, he's gone. No don't cry, sweetie, we're all here for you." She couldn't stop laughing and mr mayor even joined in saying things like "dont listen, shes lying! She doesnt know what shes talking about, shes a bird!" Later she told me she had been having a bad day and that she was grateful that Id made her laugh like that. It made her want to go on with her acting, as it hadnt been the best that day

I got Horton for my school play and I am super excited!
I'm the grinch this year and so far this is my favorite song
I teach theatre and over the summer we have week long camps. The student I cast as Mr. Mayor had to back out the day before the show so I stepped in to play the role. I really gotta thank him for that. I love this song more than chocolate buscuits!

I got to play mrs mayor and everytime I said “I’m his wife” someone backstage would say “sadly”. The person who played mr mayor was gay so it would be so awkward
But I’m happy for my role. The date for my play is coming up so I’m really excited
This version is so different from the full show, it's weird to listen to if you've done the full version
I'm guessing your referring to all the rest of the dialogue that appears in the musical, because I assure you these songs are a part of it. But yeah, I can see your point: There is much more to this musical than these recordings would have you believe.

+MCBlenderGeek In all honesty, I'm not as big a fan of the Broadway version of the musical myself, primarily because of the various subplots that the Jr version removed e.g. The Military subplot. Honestly, what the actual hell is a military subplot doing in a musical based on books that are primarily targeted towards children? Feels out of place to me. That being said, it was the Jr version that I performed, so maybe I'm just biased in that way. I just think that the Jr version captured the magic of Seuss better IMO.
Jackeroose98 we're definitely going to be biased toward the version we performed, but I think that (at least in the licensed version of the show) the military subplot is kind of necessary. It paints the military as an oppressor of imagination and gives the show another conflict. I feel like Solla Sollew has much more emotional weight when it's also about Mr and Mrs Mayor wishing their son was home with them

Last year I was the cat in the hat and I absolutely loved Seussical, I also happened to learn everyone's lines so I got an award! Now everybody who was a part of it look back and hate it. Things aren't going super great because Seussical was my only source of friends...
Just keep going one day at a time and remember there are other people going through similar things. I'm one of few people who likes to always sing out, even when I'm just wandering around. My classmates give me sideways looks like "Seriously?"
Anyone else have a gay mr. mayor? Ours is much more fabulous than mrs mayor! He's so dramatic and I love it! Im a bird girl, so to keep people in character, backstage I would go up to them and act as my sassy bird girl character Id come up with. I went up to the mayors and leaned to mrs mayor. I whispered "I dont want to alarm you, sweetie, but I think your husband might be gay. No no, honey, I swear! I've seen it before. He's only staying for your son. Why do you think he's so eager to send him off to military school? I'm telling you, as soon as Jo Jo's out of the house, he's gone. No don't cry, sweetie, we're all here for you."
She couldn't stop laughing and mr mayor even joined in saying things like "dont listen, shes lying! She doesnt know what shes talking about, shes a bird!"
Later she told me she had been having a bad day and that she was grateful that Id made her laugh like that. It made her want to go on with her acting, as it hadnt been the best that day
