I also love how after the singing first started they insert a few creepy parts in between verses, making it completely feel like flashbacks of horrible memories. Fits the story perfectly where the characters retains dreams about their previous lives that turned out badly.

This is the only anime that gave me REAL chills. In other horror animes, you usually dont know about peoples personalities that much, since its a "horror anime". But this anime really showed the personalities, possible endings and the weaknesses of the characters. This can be one of the most underrated animes tbh.
Higurashi had poor animation and some silly scenes, but it was by far the best horror show I've watched and to top it all off, its plot made more sense than most horror shows I've seen. Modern horror is all about cheap effects and completely lacks world building, atmosphere setting and creating suspense...
I don't think a lot of fans even mind the poor animation because the original source material is low quality in many aspects too. The art is incredibly deformed and there's barely any accompanying background cg's to go alongside it. It's all on your imagination to come up with mental images of what the author is describing.
@@LeonGun8 Many fans like the charm of the original art by Ryukishi (the author of the visual novel) but I completely agree with you on your other points. Fans had to imagine the horrible torture characters had to endure and the atmosphere of some scenes.
@@makar5887 Oh, I don't have anything against the deformed art (even if I prefer the upgraded art from the newer versions). I mentioned it precisely because people find it endearing, in a similar way most Higurashi anime fans tend to not mind the awful animation and may even find it part of it's charm too (in fact, the bad animation and odd art of the anime add to the scares, especially the famous faces and snake eyes)..

I know someone that forgets shows he's seen, he hates it but I'd love to be able to do that just to be able to rewatch many of the amazing animes out there, it just isn't the same watching when you know everything that will happen. :(
Honeslty you can not compare it with other anime. It's on a whole different level. Everything is so amazingly done...a masterpiece. Only one problem though...i didn't like the second season as much as the first one, since it's not horror. But with time i grew to understand how important it is for the series to actually have a good ending and we can let higurashi as the series rest in our memories knowing it's one of the best shows from the 21 century AND MOST CERTAINLY THE BEST HORROR ANIME OF ALL TIME.

@@TheIsackChannel That’s how it was framed in the first arc but it was actually keiichi falling victim to hinamizawa syndrome the entire time. Rena didn’t go crazy in that arc and was just worried about him, but keiichi’s paranoia made rena and mion look crazy. The last arc of s1 showed this when keiichi got a flashback of him murdering rena and mion, except in the flashback it’s seen that rena and mion were harmless.
this whole song for me is a time portal to late 2000's, when I first encountered this anime. I feel like she's telling me to escape the current moment and go back to where I belong, a place from a time past.
Oh my Hawn, Higurashi is one of the animes that I want to forget, for watching it again, having the same experience than the first time I've seen it. I want it too for Steins;Gate, Shiki and Umineko :c
I didn't like Umineko. I felt like it was a waste of my life. Apparently they continued on with the anime when they shouldn't have, so important plot points were accidentally left out. So I understand my logic there. I can see how it can be good though.

+Se-chan Actually no. For a show that released long before the VN was actually finished, Umineko does a great job at keeping every major plot point in the first four chapters. It even manages to hint some points that weren't revealed until the very end of the book, which wasn't released until a while after the show was finished. Most of the trouble Umineko had is because of the novel's length and a few stylistic choices that had resulted from that. For instance, the size of the roster. It's really hard to develop that many characters in the span of 26 episodes, and while Umineko managed to develop everyone's established favorites, most of the others fell by the wayside.
Sam Geuvenen Fair enough, most of this is just what I've been told by people who have played/read the other mediums the story has been created in. While I have an intention to read the manga, I haven't made a start yet. I'm very understanding of the difficulties the adaption had, and how you put it certainly puts a number of my problems into perspective. Still, because of those problems, I wouldn't run off and recommend the anime to people. All I'd recommend would be its music since I'm entirely fond of that.

As a high school kid with back then not diagnosed adhd(Higurashi was/is still one my hyperfixations) and dealing with abuse at home(high school was still awesome time since I such awesome friends by my side ❤ no one into higurashi or even anime tho lol) this used to be one of my "hiding place" songs. When everything got too hard to deal with I would put my headphones and listen to this on repeat on a burned cd lol... It somehow soothed me knowing I wasn't a flower of hell, naraku no hana... I am 30 years old and I still love this song.

Honestly I think this opening prepares you a lot for the second season, since it wasn't like the first season at all. The second season really focuses more on solving the events in the first season and is a lot more drama and mystery oriented. The scary elements was almost completely gone after the first season.
t's amazing how even after years this anime is still one of my favorites, one of the biggest things that exists in it is precisely the songs, this song in question if you analyze beyond the supernatural point of the anime, it seems to portray abusive homes, practically as an incentive for these traumatized children not to become like those who have hurt them

What can I say I watched this anime 6 years ago and still remember the emotional journey I was on. The true fear pain and hopelessness conveyed in some of the scenes, the strengths of watching others overcome obstacles, and even the failures which made the finale feel genuine and not phoned in unlike so many other animes. I remember the anger I felt (I heard this was also a visual novel and sure as hell felt like I was in there). Whenever I mention my favorite anime this and Steins Gate are ones I never forget to mention. I warn people every time the art is deceptive as this anime is another journey and while dark it feels like a genuine experience and has some strong lessons. Sorry for my spiel Ill always love this anime. Hauuuuuu.

@Викентий I guess you're asking about what my favorite animes are ...I love Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Angel's Egg and Umineko (Ik it's a visual novel but it's still an anime sort of thing) As well as Attack on Titan and I have a soft spot for Madoka Magica. For now Sailor Moon and Umineko are my absolute favorites of all time!!

seriously guys, no mention of Mion(you know the character who didn't go berserk and didn't kill anyone of her friends and always been a reliable leader in her club)... the only bad thing she did was the finger nail scene but she regrets it and did it to herself as well... other than that, you can't say any bad about her because she's one of the few people who didn't go on a killing spree like everyone of her friends did specially her twin sister Shion

I'll just recommend, anything anywhere about a series will have spoilers, so if you haven't finished it, or watched it yet, just don't ever go near it. As much as there will be people thinking there logically won't be spoilers, there'll be just as many people thinking logically that everyone here has finished the story.I know it's a late reply, but it's a recommendation worth given, since I would have greatly appreciated it in the past.
When i was watching higurashi no naku koro ni gou 2020 episode 1 and man that gave me the best chills in forever i exactly knew i was in the right place again watching this show truly gives me more hope for the future. Too Good.
I remeber watching this opening of My little Pony when I was 8 years old XD but when I was 11 I had come back watch the My little pony and original version again and then I got into this anime. Now I'm 14 years old I like to listen to this opening again and watching 2020 version.
I watched this anime like a month or so but still I can't get it out of my head. I'm not an anime person but after I watched Death Note (the only anime/manga I liked) I wanted to try more of this genre and then I found this series. It was by far one of the best stories I had the pleasure to watch. The characters, the storyline, the music, THE VILLAIN, they all are excelent. I wish I has the opportunity to watch this for the first time again.
yeah same, Higurashi along with Elfen Lied were the first animes i've ever watched and they are what made me love how anime is able to tell stories, build characters and show emotions in a way you could never archieve in a real life counterpart.
Try reading Umineko, it's from the same guy who wrote Higurashi. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. You'll get even better experience if you read "And Then There Were None", but it's not necessary .
Still my favorite in 2017, nothing comes close to the emotions i went through watching the second season of Higurashi, the struggle, the fate they cannot change is just out of this world. Such a masterpiece

Ok, just here to tell people to GO READ THE OG VN, or at least just Minagoroshi (ch.7). I barely exaggerate when I say how much I love this series, and Minagoroshi in particular is such an emotional rollercoaster that I managed to get involved with everything that was happening DESPITE having been spoiled it all. I'm legit tempted to put Keiichi as one of my favorite VN protags just for his actions in this chapter. Without delving into it too much, the way he overcomes his problems with the SOLE POWER OF SPEAKING GOOD is so amazing that I genuinely idolize his rhetoric. So don't sleep on the VNs, even if you've watched the anime (which I didn't yet). They're freaking amazing.
One of my favorite mystery/horror stories with one of my favorite tragic villains. I'm looking forward to the remake but also worried that it might not have the same charm. I hope Passione doesn't mess it up. This series is very special to me.
It’s weird how they all become overwhelmed by paranoia whenever they feel immense guilt. First chapter keichii felt guilt when Rena mentioned him hiding secrets, third chapter keichii killed the uncle, blonde keichii killed the aunt, and Rena killed her stepmom. And the god (can’t remember her name) was always saying sorry as if guilty. I think that it’s a cool connection

This was an anime that I tried to watch when I was like 13 [ admittingly I was simple minded so it was a bit too much for me ] but after several years and I rewatched it: like only *shit* was this an amazing anime.
I haven't seen this anime, (only clips here and there) but listening to this song and reading the translated lyrics inspired and heavily influenced the plot of my horror/mystery/suspense book and i always go back to this song and I feel like I really owe this song
Loved this anime, I just have an issue with being unable to rewatch it. It's a masterpiece in ever sense of the word, but so much of what makes it amazing is lost after you finish it. It's slightly disappointing. It was one of the best experiences, the first time watching it. Once you know how everything goes, it's more than a little less so.
That depends entirely on what you watch the series for. If you watch it for the mystery, then you're right. But if you watch it for the drama/characters (like I do) or the atmosphere, it works just as well the second time around
Drianikaben rewatching is actually fun. You will notice lots of details that you missed in your first watch and appreciate it even more. At least that's how I felt about it.
Levobertus I saw a few really subtle ones. For example: In Tatarigoroshi-hen, remember Keiichi asking Mion to take Satoko to the festival because he would be busy? Mion mentions events to which she wasn't a witness, specifically the phone conversation between Shion and Satoshi. Therefore, it can be concluded that Keiichi was talking to Shion, who was disguised as Mion at the time. What a clever little easter egg, one that's impossible to notice the first time around.
Sam Geuvenen there are a lot more of them and I just had fun trying to find all of them when rewatching it. Just confirmed how cleverly constructed the mystery was.
+Levobertus I found a really unusual one, which spawned a crazy theory when I noticed it: in Watanagashi-hen, when Keiichi is in the hospital at the end, Oishi is talking about the search of the Sonozaki mansion, correct? When he mentions the hidden well, he explains it thusly: "inside, we found the bodies of everyone who disappeared." That raised an eyebrow the second time around. How could they find everyone who disappeared if most of the disappearances were due to other causes? Thus came the most insane theory I've ever devised: I theorize that the identity of the culprit changes between arcs, in the sense that the Sonozaki family was responsible for the disappearances in at least the Watanagashi and Meakashi arcs. It's possible that they were merely the assassination team, but they carry some responsibility. Just from the wording of Oishi's statement, this level of reasoning is possible for Sam Geuvenen. What do you think, everyone? (I attach that quote to every theory I make involving When They Cry.)
As my childhood i never could find the second season and the end of the first season. Now that i know the end and the Truth about Hinamizawa, the children in me is at peace now
I just finished the series today. Even though from what I've heard that it may not have explained like 1 to 2 things, I'd say that the show is overall around a 8.5 out of 10 for me. Easily in my top 10 because of how much intrigue it has and how you grow attached to the characters.
I watched this anime in June 2020 and i really happy that i found it. This story is nit only about Horrors and Deaths, this story is about powerfull of friendship and love.

I regret not watching the original when I had the chance, I've heard great things about it and the plot intrigues me. I tried watching it once and only got an ep or two in sadly before they foolishly pulled all footage of the original and replaced it with Gou. I really wish I could watch the original, but even pirated versions are hard to come by these days. Seriously, they're sitting on a goldmine here, if they only re-released it as a DVD set or something. Idiots.

It's rare to find an anime opening I can listen to again and again and again and NOT get tired of it. This is one of those.

Honeslty you can not compare it with other anime. It's on a whole different level. Everything is so amazingly done...a masterpiece. Only one problem though...i didn't like the second season as much as the first one, since it's not horror. But with time i grew to understand how important it is for the series to actually have a good ending and we can let higurashi as the series rest in our memories knowing it's one of the best shows from the 21 century AND MOST CERTAINLY THE BEST HORROR ANIME OF ALL TIME.

@@TheIsackChannel That’s how it was framed in the first arc but it was actually keiichi falling victim to hinamizawa syndrome the entire time. Rena didn’t go crazy in that arc and was just worried about him, but keiichi’s paranoia made rena and mion look crazy. The last arc of s1 showed this when keiichi got a flashback of him murdering rena and mion, except in the flashback it’s seen that rena and mion were harmless.
this whole song for me is a time portal to late 2000's, when I first encountered this anime. I feel like she's telling me to escape the current moment and go back to where I belong, a place from a time past.

I didn't like Umineko. I felt like it was a waste of my life. Apparently they continued on with the anime when they shouldn't have, so important plot points were accidentally left out. So I understand my logic there. I can see how it can be good though.

+Se-chan Actually no. For a show that released long before the VN was actually finished, Umineko does a great job at keeping every major plot point in the first four chapters. It even manages to hint some points that weren't revealed until the very end of the book, which wasn't released until a while after the show was finished.
Most of the trouble Umineko had is because of the novel's length and a few stylistic choices that had resulted from that. For instance, the size of the roster. It's really hard to develop that many characters in the span of 26 episodes, and while Umineko managed to develop everyone's established favorites, most of the others fell by the wayside.
Sam Geuvenen Fair enough, most of this is just what I've been told by people who have played/read the other mediums the story has been created in. While I have an intention to read the manga, I haven't made a start yet.
I'm very understanding of the difficulties the adaption had, and how you put it certainly puts a number of my problems into perspective. Still, because of those problems, I wouldn't run off and recommend the anime to people. All I'd recommend would be its music since I'm entirely fond of that.

As a high school kid with back then not diagnosed adhd(Higurashi was/is still one my hyperfixations) and dealing with abuse at home(high school was still awesome time since I such awesome friends by my side ❤ no one into higurashi or even anime tho lol) this used to be one of my "hiding place" songs. When everything got too hard to deal with I would put my headphones and listen to this on repeat on a burned cd lol...

Honestly I think this opening prepares you a lot for the second season, since it wasn't like the first season at all. The second season really focuses more on solving the events in the first season and is a lot more drama and mystery oriented. The scary elements was almost completely gone after the first season.
t's amazing how even after years this anime is still one of my favorites, one of the biggest things that exists in it is precisely the songs, this song in question if you analyze beyond the supernatural point of the anime, it seems to portray abusive homes, practically as an incentive for these traumatized children not to become like those who have hurt them

I miss this show so much
What can I say I watched this anime 6 years ago and still remember the emotional journey I was on. The true fear pain and hopelessness conveyed in some of the scenes, the strengths of watching others overcome obstacles, and even the failures which made the finale feel genuine and not phoned in unlike so many other animes. I remember the anger I felt (I heard this was also a visual novel and sure as hell felt like I was in there). Whenever I mention my favorite anime this and Steins Gate are ones I never forget to mention. I warn people every time the art is deceptive as this anime is another journey and while dark it feels like a genuine experience and has some strong lessons. Sorry for my spiel Ill always love this anime. Hauuuuuu.

For now Sailor Moon and Umineko are my absolute favorites of all time!!

I watched this anime like a month or so but still I can't get it out of my head. I'm not an anime person but after I watched Death Note (the only anime/manga I liked) I wanted to try more of this genre and then I found this series. It was by far one of the best stories I had the pleasure to watch. The characters, the storyline, the music, THE VILLAIN, they all are excelent. I wish I has the opportunity to watch this for the first time again.
yeah same, Higurashi along with Elfen Lied were the first animes i've ever watched and they are what made me love how anime is able to tell stories, build characters and show emotions in a way you could never archieve in a real life counterpart.
Try reading Umineko, it's from the same guy who wrote Higurashi. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. You'll get even better experience if you read "And Then There Were None", but it's not necessary

Ok, just here to tell people to GO READ THE OG VN, or at least just Minagoroshi (ch.7).
I barely exaggerate when I say how much I love this series, and Minagoroshi in particular is such an emotional rollercoaster that I managed to get involved with everything that was happening DESPITE having been spoiled it all. I'm legit tempted to put Keiichi as one of my favorite VN protags just for his actions in this chapter. Without delving into it too much, the way he overcomes his problems with the SOLE POWER OF SPEAKING GOOD is so amazing that I genuinely idolize his rhetoric.
So don't sleep on the VNs, even if you've watched the anime (which I didn't yet). They're freaking amazing.
The theme song for the first season was miles better, but this definitely isn't bad. It fits the mood and tone of the second season quite well.

It’s weird how they all become overwhelmed by paranoia whenever they feel immense guilt. First chapter keichii felt guilt when Rena mentioned him hiding secrets, third chapter keichii killed the uncle, blonde keichii killed the aunt, and Rena killed her stepmom. And the god (can’t remember her name) was always saying sorry as if guilty. I think that it’s a cool connection

Loved this anime, I just have an issue with being unable to rewatch it. It's a masterpiece in ever sense of the word, but so much of what makes it amazing is lost after you finish it. It's slightly disappointing. It was one of the best experiences, the first time watching it. Once you know how everything goes, it's more than a little less so.
That depends entirely on what you watch the series for. If you watch it for the mystery, then you're right. But if you watch it for the drama/characters (like I do) or the atmosphere, it works just as well the second time around
Drianikaben rewatching is actually fun. You will notice lots of details that you missed in your first watch and appreciate it even more. At least that's how I felt about it.
Levobertus I saw a few really subtle ones. For example: In Tatarigoroshi-hen, remember Keiichi asking Mion to take Satoko to the festival because he would be busy? Mion mentions events to which she wasn't a witness, specifically the phone conversation between Shion and Satoshi. Therefore, it can be concluded that Keiichi was talking to Shion, who was disguised as Mion at the time. What a clever little easter egg, one that's impossible to notice the first time around.
Sam Geuvenen there are a lot more of them and I just had fun trying to find all of them when rewatching it. Just confirmed how cleverly constructed the mystery was.
+Levobertus I found a really unusual one, which spawned a crazy theory when I noticed it: in Watanagashi-hen, when Keiichi is in the hospital at the end, Oishi is talking about the search of the Sonozaki mansion, correct? When he mentions the hidden well, he explains it thusly: "inside, we found the bodies of everyone who disappeared." That raised an eyebrow the second time around. How could they find everyone who disappeared if most of the disappearances were due to other causes? Thus came the most insane theory I've ever devised: I theorize that the identity of the culprit changes between arcs, in the sense that the Sonozaki family was responsible for the disappearances in at least the Watanagashi and Meakashi arcs. It's possible that they were merely the assassination team, but they carry some responsibility.
Just from the wording of Oishi's statement, this level of reasoning is possible for Sam Geuvenen. What do you think, everyone? (I attach that quote to every theory I make involving When They Cry.)

As my childhood i never could find the second season and the end of the first season. Now that i know the end and the Truth about Hinamizawa, the children in me is at peace now
I just finished the series today. Even though from what I've heard that it may not have explained like 1 to 2 things, I'd say that the show is overall around a 8.5 out of 10 for me. Easily in my top 10 because of how much intrigue it has and how you grow attached to the characters.

I watched this anime in June 2020 and i really happy that i found it. This story is nit only about Horrors and Deaths, this story is about powerfull of friendship and love.

Right here i actually just finished the anime and daamnnnnnn did it essily become the best horror/mystery anime i've ever watched. Like holy shit this is another hidden gem and i'm glad i watched it.

I regret not watching the original when I had the chance, I've heard great things about it and the plot intrigues me. I tried watching it once and only got an ep or two in sadly before they foolishly pulled all footage of the original and replaced it with Gou. I really wish I could watch the original, but even pirated versions are hard to come by these days. Seriously, they're sitting on a goldmine here, if they only re-released it as a DVD set or something. Idiots.
