This interview warmed my heart when Ed passed. To this day it’s still hilarious and authentic. Craig’s so respectful and equally funny. CG- Linda says hello, hope to catch up next time in Tuc!
Craig went to high school with a very good friend of mine. What you said is exactly how she describes him. I just saw her recently and his name came up again. I asked her about some of his best stories- all true. She’s a good friend of his, and he still calls her regularly. Hoping to see him doing stand up someday soon. His EVH story and his impressions are some of the best I’ve ever heard & I must ask him more about it!
I don't know why Craig Gass and Frank Caliendo don't do a tour together! They would rake in enormous amounts of cash!!!! Both are awesome impressionists!!! They also need to do more collaberations on talk shows.
Would love to see that doc video the student took in 2004. The tension is somewhat revealed in Sammy’s book, the brother’s did not want Michael Anthony back as they felt he betrayed them in going on the road with Sammy in 2001-2002 insomuch they forced him to relinquish his publishing to get back into the band for the 2004 tour. It’s no wonder that tour was a disaster
You can find bits on video+ but Andrew Bennett did a coffee table book of photos he took and there are some amazing stories in that book. Bennet lived at studio shooting video and taking pics for months
Sam's book is full of half truths to fullout lies . INSIDE MAGAZINE released a VH III promo issue . In the issue Al,Ed AND MIKE all said Sam quit . Warner Bros wanted a greatest hits album . Sam didn't want to do it . He was told either do the greatest hits album or quit . It had NOTHING TO DO WITH FATHER'S DAY EITHER . Sam also told one of THE INSIDE reporters he didn't want to do the greatest hits album . And they told Mike when they interviewed him individually . He criticized the Van Halen Bros for selling songs for commercials YET nowhere in hi book does he tell you how much money he made when Konami used the Can't Drive 55 song for the Ridge Racer Type 4 videogame commercial . He's the only person to complain about Eddie buying and using really old recording equipment in his 5150 studio . I've seen pictures of his equipment , much of which came from the Sunset Studio where they'd usually record , and couldn't tell the difference . This is proof of a smear campaign against Ed . Whatever happened between Sammy and Ed is Sammy's fault . Ed NEVER deviated to the FACT Sam started bossing him around which was a big mistake .
@@akfreed6949 Mike was a puppet going along with the brothers he was not going to jump ship and side with Sammy he knew where his bread was buttered. Yes Sammy did not want to do a greatest hits album and he’s correct to state that the band was not over.
@@akfreed6949They both carry blame. But, I see Sam's continued disloyalty and betrayals of Ed's trust as the main issue. Sam likes to play victim, and has not shut up about it since 1996, whereas Ed remained largely silent, and that silence says way more to me than Sam's constant whining.
MA was a great bass player and we all know what a tremendous harmony singer he was (is) - I just have trouble with the idea that Anthony had to be spoon fed bass parts - doesn't ring true - I think the narrative is bogus - nothing against Wolfgang but I just don't believe it - either way the greatest band that ever plugged in!
As much as I love Van Halen, I agree. Michael Anthony had been playing bass his whole life. There is a documentary "Van Halen, The Early Years" that has a lot of interviews, including Mike Stone. But the guitar player for (I think it was) Snake, who Michael Anthony was in before he joined VH, said MA was the best bass player and could "play anything", so I doubt MA had technical and musical limitations. Something I could see is Eddie being a control freak and wanting MA to only play certain lines in the songs. If you listen to the concerts and recordings, there are times you cannot hear MA at all, and this was probably EVH's doing.
Ed should have just said I composed all the songs with all the instruments and left it at that . That's the way it was since the creation of his 5150 studio . Ed and Donn Landee made demos where Ed played basic drum and bass parts as well as the drum and keyboards . Some of which also had songs used for 5150 .
All true. It’s obvious you’re close with VH. There are grey areas in Craigs story for others to decide. TY. I know for a fact that their is no truth about Matty & I cheating behind Craig’s back. Ed, Matty & myself didn’t know each other yet. They didn’t know I was the Ex Craig had been crying over. Matty waited a year, after Craig & I stopped dating. My relationship with Craig was bad this is true, Craig was into some heavy shit in 2004. 6 months into Matty & my relationship we were positive that our feelings for each other were true & forever. That’s when we told Craig. We didn’t have to tell him first, Craig could have heard it through the grapevine. Matty stepped up & did the right thing. Now that Craigs back on air he’s added an update to our relationship status (lie) & the hashtag #rememberthiswhore. In this day & age who talks like this. How does this have anything to do with his time with EVH? Craigs outlandish story is no longer entertaining, who cares about his breakup 15 years ago. Today it’s all about Ed
Yeah I figured as much, guys like to slam exes to make themselves feel better. Cool to hear about eddie though, could care less about other guys honestly.
No offense , but I don't care either way . I don't think less of you either . Ain't none of my business . It shows Ed is a very giving guy and it's circumstance Al evidence Sammy's full of crap . Whatever difference there was between them is Sam's fault and really hurt Ed . Sammy UNFAIRLY used his POS book RED as a smear campaign against the Van Halen Bros .
I'm pretty sure it really happend. But the thing is Craig is a comedian and he pretty much turned his story into a comedy routine. So little details might change but dude definitely lived with EVH
@@shellbomb6247 I get what your saying but who knows. This was in 2004 when the reunion happened so its plausible. But its also possible craig realized he gets asked about this story enough that he should totally write it into a joke. Its clear that's kinda what he did. He does the same EVH impression and always hits the same marks in the story. Oh well. Sucks Eddie is gone.
The more i listen to this interview the more I hear shit not add up though. He claims in this video when hes just talking not in a comedy way that he never met Wolfie but in the main story he says he met him at a bowling alley. He also said that he used to listen to the whole band jam and here he says eddie made him leave and go down the hill when Sam and Mike came over.
@@Spineburger I find it hard to believe that VH while rehearsing??? Would allow a chick he met at a Metallica concert enter 5150. Maybe? Once again Sammy & Michael were there if VH was rehearsing

These were the best stories!!! How fun to b sitting here listening to all of this 👌
Craig is such a brilliant, beautiful human being with such an honest, real perspective. 💖
I feel you would think the same of us. We’re good people too 💖

There's plenty of interviews where Michael Anthony says Eddie would play the bass, and Michael would record it on video to learn.

Do you still have the Valentine's Day show/birthday wishes video?
No video
Your answer was no video? Is there any audio still of it? There was a video correct? What happened to it?
