I agree with you with Open gate. Hell Even black magic's newest camera does open gate. Black magic's entire stych is to be cheap as possible. So if they can do open gate. Why cant everyone else?
Did you just say that you can adapt E mount lenses on the Nikon!!??!? Hmmmmm Nikon is suddenly an option. Planning on leaving canon this year and all this news has me thinking alot
I personally hope they change it. It’s the only thing I disliked about the Komodo. It’s great if you’re a canon shooter… but so many of us have jumped ship from canon since they’re so behind on so many things and other companies are offering way more for less. So either a z mount or l mount would be amazing
Is only 4k 60/50/30/25/24 downsampled from 8k 60/50/30/25/24( Extended Oversampling must be on). 4k 120 / 100 is lined skipped. Regarding low DR in nraw, try and set the raw quality to high (video quality (nraw)).
I spent an hour trying to clarify if 120fps was Downsampled, everything I found said it was. Have any links? And yes I ran a handful of test. With extended oversampling off.. on.. raw high quality on.. off.. same results. I noticed you don’t see the shift until you hit record, but when just monitoring it’ll look fine. So I’m hoping it can maybe jsut be adjusted in firmware. Or even better, if it’s just a specific setting. Hopefully someone can figure it out!
@@cammackey don’t have any. Only the testes I did side by side : 4k 25fps vs 4k 100fps, plus what other z9/z8 user have found by them selfs. Plus the rolling shutter is much shorter in 4k 100fps vs 4k 25fps.
@@cammackeygetting Nikon to clarify anything when it came to video was like pulling teeth. For a long time it felt like there must’ve been two engineers there who knew anything about video and they weren’t talking to anyone.
1000% no. The R5C has horrible dynamic range. Horrible battery life. insanely slow. Stuck with the very limited RF mount. Very noisy. Doesnt touch the Z8.
Depends on the project brother. If you need quality for post color grading and for high deliverables.. like high end clients and such.. then raw or pro res hq. If it’s just for like social media tho.. H265 is jsut fine
Yeah so I was mentioning on another video where you asked Sony to just have internal RAW That you’d have to talk to RED about that. Then I realized I sounded like a dick and deleted it. lol my point for bringing that up is maybe this now officially opens the door to other manufacturers to internal RAW. Also with all that Nikon offers for film makers in the menu and camera, waveforms, open gate etc, hopefully that pushes Sony to do the same FINALLY.
I think you need to ask Nikon and do some fact checking on these claims. I don’t think it does 120 as downsampled from 8k, in any of the formats, but especially not nRaw.
@@hautehussey no, I didn’t say. All i was saying is that I own the z9 and the dynamic range is really good. The ergonomics are what won me over. It feels great in my hands, i prefer bigger batteries and how the balances the weight with larger lenses. Either way we are so fortunate as modern photographers. The technology is so good and we have so many options to choose from.
Another thing to note that I notice in NRAW is that strong blue colors get way out of gamut and destroy the blues like strong blue LED lights . It’s un fixable in post. I’m hoping a future firmware update fixes it. If anybody wants to reach out direct to see an example of what I’m talking about let me know
This has always been a problem with Nikon’s implementation of video. The funny thing is the data is often there (and the camera is capable of capturing all of it), it’s just in how the data is being converted. Definitely look into your post processing chain and see if there’s anything that could be changed. For example, are you using the Nikon LUT? That will clip all of that info out.
@@hautehussey nope no LUT straight NRAW footage can be viewed with destroyed blues tones from LED lights . Properly exposing the scene as well. The proxy mp4 file that attaches with the NRAW file is perfectly fine

Zf is not a pro camera (for Nikon) and only pro cameras are getting banks.
The Z 8 has the 4 banks always did since it came out .
I know my z6 really well, and the z8/9 menus are still confusing. Even after you learn the whole bank system (which is designed for photogs) There is still too many options. Would love to manage the menus and banks/presets with my IPad or Mac. 😊
That’s good feedback to hear!!! I wasn’t sure if it was jsut my inexperience with the system or if the menus are really just that bit of a mess
I should become a filmmaker. Just get thrown free gear at you. 😂 thanks for sharing.
Z8 is a Beast.. Nikon will fix it with next firmware and open gate is on the way.
Very honest opinions expressed
I agree with you with Open gate. Hell Even black magic's newest camera does open gate. Black magic's entire stych is to be cheap as possible. So if they can do open gate. Why cant everyone else?
Did you just say that you can adapt E mount lenses on the Nikon!!??!?
Hmmmmm Nikon is suddenly an option.
Planning on leaving canon this year and all this news has me thinking alot
Well, in my city, anyone who owns a Sony camera thinks they're a film maker and I wonder: aren't those the ones who make movies?
Cheerd much for the breakdown I agree on all points and smaller would be nice 😊❤
Wonder what's going to happen to the RF mount on the RED Komodo?
I personally hope they change it. It’s the only thing I disliked about the Komodo. It’s great if you’re a canon shooter… but so many of us have jumped ship from canon since they’re so behind on so many things and other companies are offering way more for less. So either a z mount or l mount would be amazing
I went from Fuji, to Blackmagic, to Canon….and now trying to move on. Guess why😂. I am currently zf curious.
“Go get a laptop and put a lens on it” 😂😂😂 but that’s so crazy e-mount lenses work on the z-mount. The possibilities are endless!
With an adapter I’m sure.
Plus the rolling shutter is much shorter in 4k 100fps vs 4k 25fps.
interesting, weird Nikon doesnt clarify that....
@@cammackeythat is nikon way of doing stuff.
@@cammackeygetting Nikon to clarify anything when it came to video was like pulling teeth. For a long time it felt like there must’ve been two engineers there who knew anything about video and they weren’t talking to anyone.
Do you have any recommendations for monitors?
Smallhd is my go to
What Cage are u using for the Z8
Tilta
the mug joke, nice one! ;D
Sounds like the R5C would be better no?
1000% no. The R5C has horrible dynamic range. Horrible battery life. insanely slow. Stuck with the very limited RF mount. Very noisy. Doesnt touch the Z8.
@@cammackey I think that would be a good comparison video for you to do.
@@cammackeycurious… Do you have any experience with the S5II or S5IIX? If so would you take a Z8 over the S5II?
what did you shoot the main talking head shot with?
A7RV and Sony 24-70mm 2.8
Loooooooveeeeeeee your Zf looks!
Bro I am film maker and so plz suggest me should I shoot in nraw or ProRes raw or ProRes 422hq in z8 I am new to it
Depends on the project brother. If you need quality for post color grading and for high deliverables.. like high end clients and such.. then raw or pro res hq. If it’s just for like social media tho.. H265 is jsut fine
@@cammackey ok I am making an visual story film and project like mini movie so it should be more cinematic what would suggest ProRes raw or nraw
Nikon menu system is one of the best; I worked a lot with Sony , a nightmare , and phase one , too basic ; just spend a little time with it
I actually prefer the Sony menus, canon menus, and Panasonic menus over the Nikon. Just doesn’t really click with me for some reason
Do a review on this voigtlanders
Yeah so I was mentioning on another video where you asked Sony to just have internal RAW That you’d have to talk to RED about that. Then I realized I sounded like a dick and deleted it. lol my point for bringing that up is maybe this now officially opens the door to other manufacturers to internal RAW. Also with all that Nikon offers for film makers in the menu and camera, waveforms, open gate etc, hopefully that pushes Sony to do the same FINALLY.
If you pay Nikon for the licensing fees like Apple and Fuji did why not ( compressed raw)
Very cool!
What paint did you use to paint cage ? 👀
It’s a camo green I’ve been using for years!
Z9 handles the temperature issue better apparently.
Dang, within two sentences you got to keep two cameras. Not a bad ratio going here! Lucky duck!
I need to know what amazing hat that is!
Great Video!
If you're going to get bought out, at least it's a comfort to know that Nikon had BDE hahahahah
I think you need to ask Nikon and do some fact checking on these claims. I don’t think it does 120 as downsampled from 8k, in any of the formats, but especially not nRaw.
I’m maxed out due the next 3 months but I wanna run all these tests myself
ahhh your hair is beautiful dude
Hahaha thank you 🤘🏽
i purchased the z9 yesterday.. then hit return when I learned the dynamic range isn't very good. going to hit purchase on the z8 in bit today.
The dynamic range is great... idk who told you it wasnt! The Z9 and Z8 are the same camera basically
Z9 owner here.Dynamic range is pretty good
@@gentleman0678 I'll rent it next to check it out
Wait, are you saying you decided on the z8 over the z9 because of dynamic range? You’ll never in a million years notice a difference.
The technology is so good and we have so many options to choose from.
now that Nikon owns red.. they should go all out and open up REAL RAW.. 16bit cinema dng.. this camera would be a beast
@@xiomarahope4235 yeah, the data is there, just needs to be converted in the right way. I ran into the same issue with ProResRaw.
Interesting I haven’t heard of that before. Feel free to DM examples on IG @cammacky
I always thouht Nikon went all out on the Z9 and Z8 video features because they didn't have a cinema line to cannibalize, but now they kinda do??? I have no idea what's next.
Yeah that’s what I find so exciting!! The image quality and capabilities are there.. now we just need the rest of the cinema camera
Yes, that is now the worry. Will they start leaving out features?!
