Dylan Talks Tone Recieves Commision From Some Of These Links
This video really shows the amount of experience and knowledge it takes to make quality pickups. It's really cool seeing the process and makes me appreciate small business quality.
You did a fantastic job breaking down how to wind pickups, and in particular I enjoyed hearing you share proper hand positioning and placement. Things like using a flat surface to anchor your hand, how to tension just enough to do what you need to, etc. are great ways to teach not only GOOD habits but the kind that give you REPEATABLE results. Well done!
At first I didn't like this channel because of Dylan's facial expressions or better said lack of them. It appeared to me as if somebody forced him to shoot those video... but I got used to it and now I just love his demeanor. No distracting bad jokes, no fake smiles, not shouting at me, not begging embarassingly for subscriptions...
Best guitar techtorial out there. Simple to understand, straightforward, pragmatic and most importantly very useful information.
Thank you Dyl
First time I’ve ever seen a pickup getting wound and a description of how it works. Really cool stuff! Thanks.
Great class.
I see this about the same as making beer or wine. You can try and mimic a brew of either and get close. But the beer or wine you are trying to copy is as close to what you really want in the first place so I say buy the beer made in a controlled environment. Or the pickups from a known source that has a proven or very good track record. Then that way you can control your tone that you are striving for. Otherwise you will just be grasping for the right tension all the time. Until you have established your own pickup company and I'll bet that's not a cheep start up hobby.
quite the contrary, i was able to make my first one for about 30 bucks, but if you spend 50 bucks youd have enough to to make a number of pickups and with economy's of scale you can probably be making them for less than 5 bucks a pop. i was lucky in that i was able to use someones lathe which is what i used to wind it but you could make yor own winder for 20-30 ish bucks
I appriciate the professionals to do it for me.

Would you have a wiring video for a 1965 Hagstrom 1
now i do have a question watching this. sounds like you lay the spool of wire flat on the ground and let the wire pull up off of it. now compare that to a fishing spinning reel, if you pull your line up flat off the floor like that it will make your line curly as heck, but if you stick a pencil through the spool of fishing line and pay it out straight off it in the direction of pull, it lays better and wont be curly as heck. ever try pulling the wire off the spool differently to see if it lays down different?
