His optimism makes it easier I know he deals with a lot and just doesn't want to talk bout it in fear of effecting me. Everything you said is exactly the way he is and you guys show people with sight resilience and optimism thank you
I'm currently trying to learn as much about how to help as possible. My boyfriend recently found out he has a genetic condition that's causing him to lose his eye sight, and fairly quickly. But I would rather face the struggle with him, than to be without him.
Thank you to all for commenting, im still coping with my dad just went completely blind, he's devastated and so are we, It's so hard to deal with him Hes so mad at everyone, Says the nastiest things, I know he's just mad of his situation Now he wants to die, this is so bad, I bet we all wish we could help them.
i wish him the very best, im on the way to becoming totally blind in the future...and im serious, im not ready, i never will be i would do anything, really anything to become normal again, so ...yea he is 100% mad at his body and the situation, not at you.. anyway..best of luck

Be willing to support them. Depression and anger are common signs of grief. Long term depression can become a medical issue, so maybe encourage the person to seek medical help.
My visually impaired male friend got diagnosis of going total blind, then told me "there is no future with a blind man" and it crushed me. Prior to that he said he needed to adjust to his new reality, then shut me out. I know hes depressed. Praying is only thing i know to do.😢
I'm sorry to hear that. You sound like the kind of friend a person would like to have. I hope your friend got help addressing his depression and disability.
That is not always true. Some people who lost their sight, even with support when wanted and not as invalids, always grieve it and I believe that is their right to grieve, just as a blind person would be upset if they suddenly lost their ability to hear or a blind-deaf person lost their hands. Self-esteem is also a toxic belief. Support is helpful, but don't treat them as sub-human.
