    Searching for the spring and your video was in the search results. Was hoping for a spring supplier but still enjoyed your video, Thanks :-)

      Thanks Steve. There is a supplier in the UK and although I think it's not as cheap as one would hope, it does at least include UK P&P.

      I'm sure there will be one somewhere. I've mentioned one in a previous comment.

    Thanks! Exact same problem with the spring, which has been discontinued. Hopefully, I can find a similar replacement at the hardware store. If not, I'll try a piece of flat bar stock held in place by the broken spring, as someone suggested on another site.

      I didn't know the spring was discontinued. I'm no engineer but I would imagine it's quite essential to have the spring somewhere in the drive train. I have to come clean and say I do collect lots of bits and pieces, never knowing whether they will be useful, so have no idea where my spring came from. Good luck with your search.

      @@twotone3070 No luck on the spring. On FixYa it was suggested to take a piece of metal to fit into the two slots to connect the motor to the front piece. I used a piece cut from a picture hanger; it fit the slots and held in place by the broken spring. Unfortunately snapping the case back together broke the small circuit board but it was a nice try.

      @@e.samson7429 So is it broken beyond repair or are you able to solder things back together?

      @@twotone3070 The board broke and it would be quite a chore to attempt to solder. It lasted over 20 years so I'm going to buy a new one. Thanks for your help.

    How you bent the ends of the spring you found is what I really want to see. The springs I found are unbendable with the tools I have.

    • @twotone3070
      @twotone3070  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a very small vice clamped to a table, I think I put the amount of spring I wanted bent over in it and tapped it over with a tacking hammer. Luckily the spring was malleable enough.
      Yes, I'm sorry I didn't video that bit. The main reason it is missing is because I didn't think I was going to be able to do it, I expected the spring to snap at the bend. What you actually see is me having fixed it, taking it apart for the second time with the broken bit back inside. That's why it was still plugged in, of course it hadn't been until I put the new spring in and tested it. I had already fixed it before I started videoing.
      Now I start videoing on the off chance I can fix something, sometimes it's a waste of time. I'm just sharing the experience of doing it, I don't do it professionally.

    Where are the brushes carbon ? How can i find them in this black and decker?

      I'm afraid I did not look at the motor as that was not my problem. If I get time in the next few days I will open it again and take a look. There are very often drawings on web site selling spare parts which show each part.

      @@twotone3070 thanks but I could not find anything on the internet regarding the carbon brushes of this black and decker rotary tool, so if you can help me I will be thankful, make a video and show them to me 😁

    • @twotone3070
      @twotone3070  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry that it has taken some time but I have re-opened the casing and there are brushes, probably about 5mm x 8mm. Unfortunately the casing at that end of the motor is held together by bent over metal tabs and my experience of this type of fixing is that you have to be quite lucky to get them back in the position they were, which can result in a loose component. If I had a problem I would open it, but as I have not, I am afraid I will not be doing so.
      There are 2 screws at the other end of the motor which may release enough of the casing to enable you to draw the rotor out from that end, but the brushes will close together and make it difficult to replace the commutator on re-assembly, again a step I am not going to take, I just do not need the extra work when it is not broken. Sorry.

      @@twotone3070 thank you for effort and the important information, I will contact Black and Decker in this matter, it seems a difficult mission to replace the carbon brushes so why should we buy their rotary tool while Dremel provides us with easy maintenance tools. Thanks again 👍

      Are you in Cuba? In the UK www.solenttools.co.uk/parts-by-brand/black-and-decker/rt550.html . I've not bought one of these and as it happens the supplier is local to me, just a coincidence, but I don't know them.
