Arcadi is a pianistic thunder god, the bass section of the piano is made for him. Man he is the horowitz of the 21th century. Really amazing, he plays this transcription without any wrong notes. Wow!

Unbelievable how many pieces he can play on such level. He heard him playing live in the concertgebouw Amsterdam. Just great!

The famous Horowitz version based on the Liszt arrangement ,,,,
and maybe some additions by Volodos.
The Horowitz recording from 1940s set the standard.

Fabulous playing - it's a pity that Mr V now seems to have turned this back on this kind of repertoire.

Also i dont see any new concerts with him on youtube....something is wrong and i dont like it. He should be fucking everywhere, he is the Cziffra of the 21st century and lives into the shadows. What a fuxking unjust world :/

I don't think it's a pity at all. His latest cd's and concert repertoire are fabulous, Mompou, Brahms, Schubert, I like that much more than the superficial virtuoso repertoire that he (cleverly) used to launch his career without ever doing a competition. He is now famous and can play and record what he really wants, not what is needed to get attention from the masses. Quality. I understand him very well. I still like his own parafrases though, Tchaikovsky lullaby is wonderful, or the Mompou song he rewrote for piano solo (Damunt de tu). Hope he will on occasional still do that with some beautiful old melodies. His paraphrasing reminds me a lot of Godowsky. And all of his virtuosity still is in the current performances, only not per se, but to serve the music, and you have to do a little effort to hear it. Horowitz said that to go beyond virtuosity, one first must be a virtuoso. But staying there would be a mistake. Wise choice of AV not to make that mistake.

@@paulmetdebbie447 it’s a shame he has abandoned it seemingly for good though. I heard him live a few years ago. It was stunning at first but after a while it got boring. It was basically lots of pianissimo for almost 2 hours. Even in Rachmaninov and Scriabin he seemed to be deliberately avoiding any kind of virtuosic flare. The man is a genius and his warm soft touch and tonal palette is unrivalled but it seems like his programmes today are his way of constantly saying “I’m not a circus virtuoso pianist, I’m an intimate and introspective one”. Even the mature Evgeny Kissin today has not completely avoided playing virtuoso fireworks as encores that helped make him famous as he understands that audiences like them, and that as a concert pianist one has to respect the demands of the listeners.

@@sacrilegiousboi978 When you are at the top of the top, as Volodos is, you get the right to play whatever you want. Today Volodos is even not announcing his programs except one week before the concert. Then is not like anyone is forced to listen, you want noise you go hear Kissin, he is good at that.

That's because this is Horowitz's transcription of Liszt's transcription. They're very similar.
