Funny that on that time that sound like these very popular. Some people love making fun of this. Then said I/We miss this sound very much when it's not the trend anymore 😆
Actually, for those of you saying negative stuff about the girl "fronting", she is not a fake singer; she is an excellent jazz vocalist. She was my voice teacher for some time. There is a whole lot of history to how this arrangement came to be and Dawn was pulled in at the last minute to save a deal and did not know about the sampling (I believe her voice was also one of the few that were sampled and merged). Very much akin to what is happening to vocalists today not knowing that their voice will be auto-tuned - no matter how well they sing. Exclusive recording artists are nothing but employees, many times with deals that never favor them (especially in those days). Plus, recording artists never know what their finished songs will sound like until right before promos start. You all need to research what was occurring in the business, especially in Europe during those days. The ones that come out losing in the end are the artists (case in point, Milli Vanilli).
In all fairness and due respect to the female vocalist 'fronting' the project, the actual vocalist is none other than Aretha Franklin. I hope you are aware of that.

Cedric Karl Fonk If that comment was for me, yes, I am very aware of that. If you re-read what I posted I mentioned about the sampling and how Dawn's and the previous project's singer's voices were sampled and merged with others (i.e. Franklin's). [I believe even on the original release's cover, the image of the first singer was still being used before she "walked out" on the project - I am not real clear on what happened to this first girl.] In the chorus, the merge becomes more apparent; however, it is very obvious in the verses that Aretha's voice is being used. Dawn had no idea that sampling would happen in post-production and did not hear the final version until she was made to appear in this video. When she heard it, it was a slap in the face as she was and is very proud of her singing abilities.

1980s was a great decade as it saw a return of happy pop/dance music. The 90s went a little dark, with more sedated, moody music, though there was still plenty of great pop/dance music. The turn of the 2000s saw a brief surge in pop (Britney etc), but then back to being quite dark in the mid 2000s (charts were full of grungey rock bands). The last few years of the 2000s saw a glorious convergence of pop and electronica (Lady Gaga etc) and the charts were full of great music, one of the best times ever in music history.
