Thank you. I didn't realize there was a sum mode in masks. This is going to be useful. One suggestion when working with masks is to toggle the reveal mask once in a while and have a look at it. And with the mask revealed, I can increase the mask feathering slider until the mask bleeds into the areas I wanted.
Wow been working with DT for couple of years now - old version 3.0.0. only just upgraded to 4.6.0 this week when trying to import new z8 files. Had now idea this build up could be done. Looks brilliant and will definitely be trying this on my images. Now subscribed and looking forward to seeing what other gems you have on here. Thank you!!
A really welcome feature this additive masking brush. Maybe you know that you can open and activate a new module by just left-clicking on the name (you don't need to press the button first), and second, you can right-click on any number in a scale and an input field will appear, where you can write the exact value 1.5).
I know both of those buddy, but seriously, I FORGET! I've always been useless at remembering anything like keyboard shortcuts etc - but I'll have to try harder to remember the second one you mentioned. All the best matey!
What I just realized: combining this function with the new overlay module means, that now we can do exposure blending within darktable! This is really getting me excited!
Excellent and very useful video. I did wonder when reusing the brush mask in other modules, why you did not simply use the raster mask? Another issue: this procedure becomes very cpu intensive after a few brush strokes so not recommended on older, slower machines. Compressing the history stack does improve it though. Thank you.
With SO many distros in existence, and only around 4% global market share, the effort is not worth the reward, for most commercial software suppliers. Someone will crack it one day, but I wouldn't hold my breath. The data bases for Adobe, DXO and Topaz are huge. So FOSS devs would have a hard, time consuming task building one themselves, because they won't have access to the vast number of samples required. Doubtless a license could be bought at considerable cost; but how do they recoup the money spent? Modern photography has, up to a point, left Linux users stuck - big time.
Thank you Awesome tutorial (beginner DT user here) really appreciate the effort👌🏻
Wow! I have already been working with darktable for a few years, but I didn't know THAT option! Great, thank you.🎉

I've never used the workflow you've showcased it but will definitely try it in my next edit. Thanks for the tip!
Great video. Straight forward and really helpful
This is so simple and useful. Thanks!
You're welcome!

Anything you want me to do a video on, just ask!
Merry Christmas Andy, thanks so much, what a powerful yet subtle way to use masking tools, I'm keen to try out your advice.

It's not only the price that puts me off DXO, but also that it doesn't seem to support Linux :/ Very helpful tutorial though!
