The only companion of Rasulallah (S) mentioned in the Holy Qur’an is Zayd Ibn Harith in Surah 33 verse 37. Why isn’t he first Khalifah? Your logic does not stand. We are the descendants of the Prophet pbuh and his holy household, we read the Qur'an using the interpretations provided by the Ahlulbayt who, as per the Prophet pbuh, are never separated from the Qur'an (as mentioned in the famous hadeeth al thaqalayn in Sahih Muslim Book 44, Hadith 55). We believe in reading the Qur'an with meanings and interpretations, Unlike Umar who said "the book of Allah is enough for us" (Sahih Muslim Book 25, Hadith 31), and banned the writing of hadeeth during his forceful khilafah (read the section of Umar's reign in Tarikh al Tabari).
