    Sandy, I have been subscribed to your channel for years, and enjoy ALL of your episodes. It is wonderful to enjoy your wide variety of programs. I am a ham here in Minnesota, so especially like your Sunday Morning Hamshack videos and the fact that you experiment with antennas, as do I. Cheers and 73, Tom ABØJ Minneapolis, MN

    Just great, loved the subtle comedy be it the dust, or your coffee, not forgetting the ham shank very tongue in cheek. I know nothing about this subject but love to watch it's fascinating, being a multifaceted person is the reason why we love to watch your channel so much. Good luck with the operation hope all goes well we look forward to seeing you back in action soon.

    Thanks Sandy. I discovered you after watching Itchy Boots and her Himalayan m/c linking me to you and your Himalayan. Then I find that you are a radio ham and into morse, also you do paramotoring etc etc all things I am interested in.
    I don’t have a motorcycle anymore but am tempted by the Himalayan.
    I have tried to learn morse many times, while I can remember the alphabet I just cannot interpret morse when I hear it. Just more practise I suppose but my brain does not respond quick enough. I used to love listening to the old timers on 80m back in the sixties on my old R1155 receiver and wished I could pass the RAE which I did eventually but not until the late seventies when it was all SSB and Japanese rigs which were out of my reach in those days. I would still like to build a CW tx, I still have the valves somewhere.
    I also like your wild camping and the catapult took me back 60 years, I made many out of a forked stick when I was a kid. I always found them pretty accurate.
    All the best to you and your good wife !

    I have absolutely no desire to take up paramotoring, I dont have an interest in it, however I really enjoy watching those videos. I like listening to you and your experiences and watching you fly. I have no issues with skipping past the hamming vids as that doesn't interest me, so I dont watch them, it's not difficult to select what you want to watch. Problem in this day and age is people expect everything to handed to them and given to them in the format they want. Keep up the good work Sandy, your a good guy.

    Sandy, I can’t remember how I found your channel, and I know this comment is well out of date. However, while I don’t especially want to fly (particularly in/on/with a paramotor!), I enjoy watching your vids of flying, I’m a QRP radio op (CW only), I enjoy the outdoors and enjoy your outdoors videos, like to see your dogs and your missus joining in, and I am also a motorcyclist. I enjoy your historical comments too.. All your interests are engaging and your videos always worth watching. Single channel is surely the way to go. Keep at it. Les g0nmd. Sandy, you are always very clear on your descriptions of the video content of your videos. I personally find your various interests that you cover with your videos quite entertaining and interesting to me also. For instance, I have no desire to actually fly a machine, but, I do enjoy watching you participate in that activity. I may not ever desire to actually own a ham radio but I still find it very interesting and challenging to see how they function and operate. Thanks for sharing your video pieces of your life with us. Whether it is out in the woodlands, out in the knife shop, up in the sky, or in the corner of a room in your home communicating in Morse code. You live a fascinating life and I fully reserve the right not to watch any of your videos that don't interest me (I just haven't found any that don't interest me yet) I watch them because I have been given the opportunity to do so. Thank you sir. If you keep making the videos, I will keep watching them. (If I want to.lol!!) Your surgery on your hand will go great I am certain.

    Roger on the low-takeoff angle on the verticals. Since I am on the top end of 75 meters most of the time with occasional 40 meter operations and I have the space, I use a G5RV and a whopping big antenna matcher, the MFJ-986. The G5RV is only 20-25 feet off the ground, but that helps with "local" stuff on the low bands. A lot of what i do has to do with Colorado and surrounding states, so 500-1000 miles is fine for that. Almost like 'near vertical incident skywave'. Have a great springtime.

    I agree on the noisey verticals. I always opted for dipoles. I moved house about 2 years ago and because of the layout and impatience I through up a efhw on 20 which doubles as a 1/4 wave on 40. To be honest I wouldn't go back. I have compared the performance on transmit between the vertical and a dipole out the back and the vertical wins every time. I'm trying to convince Ade to put some sort of vertical up and he's been thinking about it I believe. When we try for a QSO he can hear me loud and clear on the vertical but I can't really hear him on the dipole. Anyway enjoying the Ham shack Sunday videos, much appreciated.

    • @WiltshireMan

      You might have a natural ability not everyone has it, infact only a few go on to really become fluent and head copy is the way forward. I will be interested to hear updates on your progress and when your ready I can take you up a notch or two. Remember practice and exposure to the code is the only way to improve and own this skill. If you have that ability I would urge you to spend as much time listening and then when your copying reasonably well make some contacts. Use the code, enjoy it , make some friends. You will find most CW ops very friendly. Not many bad apples down in the CW section.

    @adelarsen9776 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    1) Sandy, it is a myth that verticals are inherently noisy. They are only noisy when there is local noise to be soaked up in the area.
    2) It is also a myth that 1/4 wave verticals radiate poorly in all directions. When installed correctly they have a low angle of incidence and are often better than a dipole for DX.
    3) Remember, a dipole is a perfect antenna in free space. In reality on the ground a vertical can often beat a dipole.
    4) As for radials, I refer you to both DX Commander and Rudy Severns who have both done exhaustive tests and the answer is basically this :
    Minimum 2 wave lengths of radials and maximum of 4 wave lengths per band.
    EG : On 40m, no more than 160m of wire - after this it is diminishing returns.
    However, if you only use 2 wave lengths of radials on 40m then you are almost perfect.
    Which means that if you put out 160m of radials on 40m then it'll be fine from 80m to 10m.
    The length of the radial does not matter so much but what matters is total length of all radials in wave lengths. In other words, the max is 4 wave lengths and you can arrange these is many short radials or lesser quantity and longer.
    5) Wow !!! A new DXCC entity - Chech Republic......What's the capital, Pragislava ??? LOL
    6) I can't wait until we get rid of Juncker. And Verhofstadt and Shultz. Come to think of it, the whole EU commission. Nothing trumps British sovereignty, democracy, justice and freedom (what's left of it)
    7) Sorry to hear about G3JOT SK QRT
    8) I enjoyed the entire video. Thank you. Off to cook a whole leg of lamb now outside in the charcoal bbq. Beer + Bbq = Good life.

There are other channels that I am subscribed to that have many interests they post about. If it isn't something I am interested in I DON'T WATCH IT. It would be like someone watching an entire television program and complaining. When asked why they watched it and didn't change the channel they say "I couldn't find the remote." or "The remote was over there and I didn't want to get up and get it." Do what you do. It's amazing that no PMR. Gone are the days of PYE Westminsters, Burndept, Tait and other modified stuff. Grandby Hall and Pickets Lock. Just off the shelf mass produced. For me the enjoyment was modifying and making rx/tx but due to local masts and interference I gave up the hobby. Also transmissions from city of Leicester were illegal, taxis, Danny boy and calling to prayer etc. Cheers from George

    How easy is this viewing lark? It’s a channel with diversity related to the creators’s hobbies and interest! If you don’t like a video don’t watch. Personally I like the diversity. I know nothing about flying or radios but I find it interesting either way. I’ve actually learnt a lot on things I’m clueless about. Keep it going Sandy. ATB. James

    Yep, a specialist video indeed. And that's coming from someone who is also licenced !
    I don't to the CW thing or the HF thing, but I did enjoy the sounds of the wind and rain outside.
    Are you going to bury those radials?

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I won't bury them, they are quick and easy to roll up. The antenna is easy to put up and take down.

      What type of mast are you planning Sandy? Something big for a yagi. Or just a pole mast, for wires and possibly your spider beam?

    wiltshire man is about you / and your interests and as you said, why do you need a single channel for each of your "specialist hobbies", don't we ALL have specialist hobbies/interests? it's a hobby/personal interest, NOT mainstream (what did you have to do to get a cup of coffee made this time? :O )

    Hi Sandy like you say, as you cover many different topic's you only need to watch the topics that interest you. My interest in your channel is your paramotoring and cw amateur radio hence why I watched this episode. Sandy I like all your cw morse keys except one and thats the Vibroplex. Whilst the engineering of the key is lovely and it looks a work of art these keys are very often are not set up to the correct 3/1ratio and as such for me spoil the" perfect copper plate rhythm" of morse code that should be cherping away like the beat of a drum in perfect timming. Some might say that perfect morse code is to clinical but in my opinion if you spoil the perfect rhythm and do that intentionally then you spoil the code. When I've listened to you using the straight keys you automaticly strive to obtain that perfect 3/1 ratio controlled by your skill and it sounds great but retains your own identifiable fist within it. As you can probably tell I am quite passionate about cw like yourself but just thought I would give you my thoughts on the Vibroplex key. By the way like the new rig. Richard G4YZK VA ..

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Richard,
      Well the bug key does make it's own sound. I actually like it too and you can get a good swing going with it. I have no problem reading Baghdad Morse sent on a bug and yes I know it's not perfect especially with the super sharp dits that some bugs make but I prefer to call it accent. My mate Ant come from the Bristol region and I have to retune my ears to understand him and when I phone up Virgin media I often talk to someone from India and thn I have real problems but I am of the opinion that Morse once ingrained is another language skill and I would rather listen to bad Morse than no Morse at all. Ofcourse I would rather listen to good Morse or even Good Morse sent Baghdad style.
      The bug key as you rightly say can also be setup to send near 3:1 ratio. They have their place and one will always be on my desk and put into regular use.
