For Air Max Day 2016, Nike asked sneakerheads to vote for their favorite Air Max of all time, which would then be re-released in 2017. Nominees in the â Vote Backâ poll included the likes of the Air Max 90 â Duck Camo,â the Air Max 90 â War Hawk,â and the beloved atmos x Nike Air Max 1 â Elephant,â which eventually won the vote.
It may sound surprising, but the iconic colorway was inspired by the image of an elephant having a bath, with Tinker Hatfieldâ s signature cracked concrete print from the Air Jordan III (itself schedule to make a comeback alongside) constituting the obvious elephant reference, while teal hits on the Swoosh, tongue and heel obviously refer to water.
Joining alongside the popular Air Max silhouette will be a special iteration of the Air Jordan 3 that bears a Safari print motif instead, and composed of smooth black nubuck with yellow accents. Other notable details include green Jumpman logos on the tongue and â Nike Airâ branding on the heels.

I think the cut on the elephant print is not different in purpose, it happens many times on different pairs with this kind of prints.
( I noticed this also on the true blue's ). Probabily there are differences on that only because this two shoes came out from two different factories..
Btw if you know something more about it let me know as I'm curious too ;)

The retro pair never came with extra laces.
Only the Jordan/atmos pack did.
Plus the elephant print are different on each pair and same for the pack.

I purchased both the pack and the stand alone atmos. I can tell y'all this, the air max 1 in the pack has a deeper, more defined elephant print, a softer black suede, and a better overall OG shape IMO. Idk why one is better than the other but when you put both together and compare it is obvious the atmos that comes in the Jordan pack is way better. I sold the 3s
