How to Make a Floating Illusion Necklace - Jewelry-making Tutorial

  • This style of necklace is one of my absolute favorites. So simple and elegant!
The beads on the necklace look as if they are "floating" because the wire is hard to see. Crimp beads are used as "stoppers" so the floating beads will stay in place.
I was first introduced to this necklace style by this website: www.beadage.net/projects/illus... Thank you, Emma!
    Materials list:
    - Beading board (if you do not have one of these then a ruler would be sufficient)
    - Beading wire (I used Accu-flex .019" size)
    - Crimp beads (I used twenty-four 1.5mm round)
    - Crimp covers (I used 3mm)
    - Some beads (I used eleven 8mm beads)
    - Clasp (I used a barrel clasp)
    - Wire cutters
    - Crimping pliers (or flat-nose pliers)
    Sources for materials:
Beading wire, crimp beads, crimp covers, and beads are from www.firemountain.com. Clasp from www.nasco.com.

This is one of the best videos. Step by step directions, exactly what i needed. You can actually make the necklace while watching the video. Love it!

You just taught me something very important! I've read books where they say to string the wire (after attaching the clasp) back through several beads. This was always very difficult for me to do when attaching the second clasp. Now I don't have to do that anymore! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for showing me YOUR way!

This tutorial was great for beginners such as myself. I've always adored the idea of the "floating" necklace but never able to get the "gist" of crimp beading. This was very well explained AND the fact you took your time explaining without distracting background music and/or pointless rambling made it THAT much easier for me to follow and create. You have a new subscriber for sure! Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing what other beautiful works you share.

Wow, you made putting on crimp covers look a lot easier using crimp pliers than my jewelry teacher did.she had us using flat noise pliers for the process. I can't wait to get home and finish the necklace I started - using crimp pliers instead note. :-)

Very nice to include putting covers on the crimp beads. I figured this out in my own jewelry making by just striving for a polished look and professional finish. If u look at commercially manufactured floating necklaces, well in my experience anyway, they leave the crimps bare. Soon the wearer has a scratched, irritated décolletage! Nice vid.

if you want to put a crimp cover on all your crimps, I guess you could, you would just need to leave a little more room before and after the bead before you crimp to allow the crimp cover to sit correctly. in the video she says to leave a 1 1/2 inch space between beads. I hope this helped.

If I understand what you're asking.spacing is done 1/2' from clasp then 1 1/2' between beads. The pattern is crimp bead, bead, crimp bead. When all the beads are attached you go back and attach crimp bead covers.Hope this helps.

Thanks for explaining this so clearly. My first effort was a three strand tourmaline small nugget necklace on monofilament wire and I turned the air blue swearing all afternoon. If you're using monofilament use the teeny 1mm crimps specially for positional crimping or the things will shift and you'll end up swearing like I did! And of course try something less ambitious first!!

I can't even imagine what kind of time he or she must have on their hands if they felt they JUST had to share what was an opinion that had nothing to do with content. This was one of the easier to understand tutoral on how to make this type of necklace I've come across.

I'm also new to beading and I love this video it's straight to the point and like how you explain the size of the crimps and covers as I'm never sure of the sizes to use. Could you put crimp covers on the crimps next to the beads?
I also like this video for that fact that there is no annoying cheesy music going on.

    • @CatFoxDesigns
      @CatFoxDesigns  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sure, you could use crimp covers next to the beads. I was actually thinking of making an updated video with this floating illusion necklace idea and putting crimp covers over the crimps near the beads. Have you seen some of my latest videos? Is the music annoying with those? Always love to hear feedback on improving the quality of my videos! Thanks for your comment!
