  • The next "Street Process" is a POV video from Hanoi, Vietnam. This time I shot colour film to start, before switching to Kentmere 400. The Olympus XZ-1 also popped up again for a few colour shots!

    I'm from Hanoi, and I feel you when you show your POV video. It's like I am the one who holding camera and taking the shots. The golden moment, the hesitation, the regrets... you name it.
    Great video bro, I have a Ricoh GR2 camera, before, I had a LC-A, they are all good at taking street photo.

      Hey, I'm happy to hear that! I feel the same when I watch other POV videos I enjoy, so it's a nice compliment. Those are nice cameras indeed, hope you still get out and enjoy shooting 👍

    Thanks for taking us along Hashem, it felt like you had a great day! Between the two cameras and two different film stocks you got great images in three different very looks, which is really impressive. I think I enjoy the b&w the most but they all look great.
    The people of Hanoi seem very amenable to being photographed, the guy smoking under the train, totally unfazed when he noticed you!

      Thanks so much, glad you liked the video. I also prefer my black and white shots from there, but it could just be what I shoot or look for. As for that guy, I tried to seem like I was taking a photo of the train, etc and being generally touristy 😅

    Nice one again, Hashem 👍 From the Saigon vid to this one, it seems you'd got into more of a rhythm on this one. Some great snaps captured. I find Hanoi much better for street photography due to its old charm and unique light. I love how familiar it all is too, I know exactly where you are throughout the whole video as well, ha. You show how quick you are too when there's a lot going on. I'm such a slow and measured shooter in comparison. I can't wait to see the next chapters of the trip, especially from up further north, where I'm most acquainted with. I'm so glad you got to make a trip there 😊

    Stunning street photo! Keep inspiring street photographer out there Hashem! I’ve been planning to bring the film to Hanoi this year, but I’m not sure if it can go through the airport security in Vietnam. Do they allow us to do hand check/manual checking for the rolls of film that we bring for the trip?

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Really depends on your luck and other factors. I was refused one time in Saigon even after persisting, but otherwise allowed 2 other times (both Saigon and Hanoi). Depending on the staff members you get, it can help to have a translated note (or better yet a local to explain!) if you don't speak fluent Vietnamese. I also tend to take a few high speed 3200 burner rolls to help incentivise acceptance for hand checking. The good thing is they don't seem to employ CT scanners... all the shots in this video went through Xray.

    Love the shot with the guy with his back to you and the train in the background above him. Also love the shot of you taking a photo of the guy with the camera that was talking a photo of you lol.
    My favourite film of all time is 500T with the remjet on or off. I find that tungsten film is not blue, but just more neutral which allows complete versatility when shooting in any situation. I find daylight balanced film impossible to remove the yellow cast when shooting under yellowing lights or in mixed lighting. Whereas tungsten works well in those situations as well as on a sunny day. It also responds well to white balance adjustments. Great video!

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks man! Yeah I reckon that's why they frequently seem to use 500T for Hollywood productions etc, even in daylight scenes. Just gives that versatility :-)

      @@pushingfilm I was actually talking to an older gentleman in the film & television business this afternoon and he said originally all film was tungsten and you always used an 85 filter (slightly different to 85b which you hear about a lot) to shoot outdoors. I personally find daylight films quite difficult to work with unless you’ve a really nice sunny day. The daylight films generally look too warm on an overcast day and are impossible to remove the yellow cast when shot indoors. 500T looks amazing with an on camera flash at night too.

    Thanks again for touring Hanoi. For a photographer, the possibilities of Vietnam look endless. And trying to justify shooting B&W in so-colorful Vietnam looks hopeless. And I think the only way to justify shooting film with an expensive Leica M-A is that it's fun. But, what OTHER justification for doing anything do you need? Thanks again. Great video.

    I just came back to my home country after a week of holiday and street photography in Hanoi. I did not dare to bring my Leica M to Vietnam, because I had heard horror stories of pick pockets and snatch thiefs on motorcycles grabbing handbags and cameras. Be alert and take care of your gear! 😅
