      The wheels are in motion for my van-home. And I am interested in weight. One idea would be to use a material that is light and strong ( I’m thinking of using an old tent ) for cabinet doors , or for baskets like in Dan and Rachel’s van .

It's not unachievable at all to deadlift at least 405 pounds, but that's 405 pounds more the vehicle will have to carry around. Safety would also definitely be an issue. Failing a rep could lead to falling off the vehicle. Suspension moving the platform, etc.

    Dan and Rachel, ever thought about adding a screen room that can be used for summer and winter. it would not take too much time to hang it up or take down. Maybe you could make your own to fit your van better.
    I watch a lot of van living videos, and I am surprised that none have slideouts. I wonder if that is not aloud on vans, or maybe too expensive.
    I watched a couple build a 5th wheel camper. They built a slideout on one side. Took them 10 months and less than 10k. They put in bunk beds for the 2 boys, each had a tv moniter. There was a tv moniter in the LR area and the MBed. They had oak cabinets. They started with a 5th wheel bed.
    Your camper is very unique! Y'all really thought this through.

    • @daniel.messick
      @daniel.messick 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Screens can be a quick addition with magnets or velcro. And an awning has been on want list, but we never got around to it. One of the attic storages is a 10x10 pop up tent that we have. I have seen only a handful of slideouts for vans and I think its a toss of either the weight gain from the mechanics or the fact that the extra bracing to ensure safety( as you don't wont to remove a structure beam) it can be done but most vanlifers just open the door to get that gain. But believe me I've thought of doing them just haven't dedicated the time to get all the mechanical and weight figured out.

    • @bobbiewhitten1718
      @bobbiewhitten1718 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not want a screen room and definitely not slide outs. That takes away from the whole concept of living tiny.

    It's an insanely cleverly built van. it's wonderful, and I love how in sync this couple is... The only thing I would personally do differently is to have one portable screen that could be attached in different places in the van. it feels excessive to have 3 screens + laptops in such a tiny space. The fold down-TV, workout TV and fold-down monitor could've been the same device.

    With all the conversions done it seems tight. the toilet in the middle with no privacy, nope can't do it, lol. It's fine if you're traveling by yourself.
    They should have just gotten an older model Class B van 1990's-early 2000's, which is 20-22ft and has a door to a toilet/wet bath OR a short school bus with all the conversion they want to put in, the bus would handle it. It seems like it a lot of weight on that van.

    • @ajb.822
      @ajb.822 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn't say they used it right there necessarily.. they could move it down between the side bench seating some, or take outside, etc. ( had a folding privacy thing, etc. ) or, inside, have a curtain on a circular rod on ceiling, situated so curain against wall when not used. As far as still needing more privacy... well, some couples are close enough &/or practical enuf, they can be very mature & carefree. OR u can turn on loud music & other one goes outside, or puts in earphones in drivers seat if raining... lotsa options. As far as where they prep food.. they have only that sink to wash up in, too.. Hey, they have running water ! Plenty sanitary if they keep concious of the situation, & keep everything rinsed & wipes down between times. She probably has a Norwex silver-bedded cleaning cloth too, which works great, but there's a lot of ways to sanitize. Extra precaution would be never placing veg. u r about t eat , in sink while prepping, without a bowl or strainer etc. . But again, a well sanitized & rinsed sink.. it probably safer than using public rest rooms.
