Been anxiously awaiting your final thoughts on this bike. Between you and Cycling Tom who ran his Winspace G2 over an insanely rocky course, it seems this carbon frame is up to handling most any terrain.
I assembled mine 3 weeks ago and after 600km I think a lot of good too. For the problem with the crankset, I personally installed an anti-derailment hanger just in case. You can see her in the video where I ride the bike 😉
great review. However I disagree that hydro brakes are necessary. There are great regular disc brakes that use normal cables. You can't compare bottom of the line cable brakes to premium hydro brakes. Good disc brakes are cheaper than good hydros, they perform great, and don't require mineral oil in the brake cables. Then you can maintain them yourself-easily. :)
Hey man thanks for this in-depth long term review, planning to buy this frame! This frame would remind me that if Charles can conquer the world's toughest climb, I can too!
You know, I really love my Winspace Hyper wheels. They really are great. But having a gravel bike that can't accept a stock Shimano GRX800 48/31 chainring seems like an HUGE design oversight. 46/31? Who even makes that? Yeah I understand we can just take the 48 off and swap in a 46 but still, not being able to run stock GRX800 chainrings is a hard pass.
Yeah I get what you mean. This trade-off is to accomodate tires up to 50mm, that's why the chainstay is a bit on the larger side. Thinking about it, maybe a 1-2mm spacer between crank and bb would give enough space right off the bat for a 48mm and avoir chain stuck.
Charles, tell me, please. The official representative office could not tell me the exact figures. Question: 1) Recommended(maximum) weight that can be placed on the fork on one side (there are three attachment points). 2) Mountings under the trunk. Taking into account the trunk itself and things, what weight should be guided? Thanks for the feedback!
Well well well, you gave away some points on your upcoming Hawaii ride =D Seems you made it, happy for you and looking forward for that video. BTW, I do not know if you posted it already somewhere. Regards form Germany
Some questions for you What is your height, inseam length? What are your thoughts on the reach, the seat angle, the HTA? Considering your height and dimensions, curious your thoughts on the geometry?
@CharlesOiumet Is there internal routing for a dropper? This is a non negotiable for me. I can't get the frame unless I can get internal routing.. Other oddly specific question. I'm planning to use Shimano grx 810. 1x11 groupset. But there is an upgrade that some people use, they swap out the cassette to 11-52 Shimano m5100 cassette. Some people use a wolftooth GOAT link to accomplish this. Not sure if you've tried that? Also curious about the reach measurements for your body type/build. Do you feel like the reach was ideal for you, or too short? I tend to ride a lot of steep trails so it's an important factor.
Hi Charles!! Thanks for the excellent review. Do you think if you had installed the grx cranks you would not have the chain getting stuck problem? I believe the grx crankset has 49.7mm chainline whereas FSA have standard road 43.7mm??
Salut @charlesOuimet, je reconnais le mont royal (avec les spots rebelles). J'aimerais bien le voir ton vélo, fait mois savoir quand tu retourne au mont royal si tu veux de la compagnie,
Hey Charles I'm a big fan. I'm planning on picking up a frame next time they have a sale (like black Friday) and am worried about crankset clearance. On the site they do have a picture of a bike with a 50/34 compact crankset which I'd like to use (I have an old Ultegra crank lying around) but from hearing about your difficulties with 48t I'm worried it won't even fit. Do you think it's possible to run a 50/34 compact crankset?
Hi Man thanks for the nice review video, I'm planning to used it as a road bike too and wondering if I use 28/30mm tires, will it be as responsive as endurance road bike ?
Charles I’ve been eyeing for this frame. I live in Montreal as well and planning to join the Big Red Gravel next year, which thinking me of getting this frame. Do you have a link for the handlebar that you use on it. Merci
Hey! Nice that's awesome. Very good frameset, you'll love it :) I don't have any link or discount with FSA, they are just a friend of the channel. You can it directly from the fsashop website
Hi Christopher! Mine is GRX 810 GRX 600 hads a max size of 36T unfortunately, BUT maybe you can look into a derailleur hangner extender, I think with that you'd be able to pull a bigger casette!
Hi Charles, Gr8 review. I am wondering about your Ultegra set up in that I run a 50/34 with an RX derailleur which easily handles an 11/40 cassette; wondering why yours wouldn't. I have this set up on an excellenf all road bike made in Quebec, a T-labs titanium. Check them out.
Thanks Monty! The 32-32t was fine for quebec, but as you will see in the Hawaii movie releasing this friday, I NEEDED easier gears. This is why I went with GRX RD and 11-42 cassette!
Will a 700c x 50mm tire fit in the rear with a front derailluer? My experience is that a frame with short chain stays like this one will end up having a tire that size hit or rub the FD. Especially a DI2 FD.
I don't unfortunately, I haven't ridden the bike enough since my garneau frame was cracked. But I now have a new frame to build on a budget and will put the sensah on it
@@CharlesOuimet Pas de probleme Charles, just curious as I recently got one for a budget build and wanted some more reviews, specifically on the finicky FD. Also, I am going to be moving to Montreal early next year some time, any suggestions on longer, uninterrupted routes around the city or outside the city?
Do you see such a difference between a endurance road bike with big tires (Roubaix / defy ...) and a real gravel ? And for racing it seems like they tend to use road big with big tires (a venge winned a major American endurance gravel race if I'm not wrong )
Good question! I think it depends on the course. Some with hardpack most of the way will be better on a roadbike with big tires, but some gravel races NEED the bigger tires, flared bars. Also gravel races are often 8+ hours, so a more relaxed geo is definitely worth it over an agressive fit. Roubaix and defy dont have the clearance for 40mm tires I think, which is a great tire choice
Salut Charles, I am interested in buying a G2 but I am not a good mecanician to build it by myself;-( I am from Montreal as well. Can IBike shop in Montreal still build Winspace bike? Or it was a favor they did to you/ people they know? I was thinking about a Decathlon Triban gravel c520 for a cheaper price but of course not the same frame quality/ Alu VS carbon. I love how versatile the G2 is (new baby coming;) and I will need to install a baby seat in the back)
Hey Romain, G2 is a beast of a bike. Wouldn't really trust that Decathlon bike for extreme gravel ahah. Winspace sell the complete build kit on their site, I'd suggest that if you are on a budget. (currenlty out of stock) www.winspace.cc/g2-gravel-built-up-kit.html But yeah Ibike would be happy to build the bike, if you have all your parts, which is not an easy task at the moment. I'm also 6ft and was perplexed by this also. But, if you are still looking, I talked to their customer service and apparently the bike for 6ft rider is the medium. I don't know how they work out their sizing but it certainly isn't how the rest of us do it!
