It depends what time a snowstorm hits and the severity of the snow for the trucks to come out to salt and plow roads. They usually do the main roads first. It could take awhile to get to neighborhoods and side roads.
Our porch is what freezes. My mail lady is so sweet that she puts our packages inside my Jeep. I've told to not even try to come on our porch. Since its elevated it will freeze and being dark it just looks wet. We live out in the sticks so my Jeep is never locked and she just puts them inside if its icy or wet. UPS will put the packages on our concrete pad at the bottom of our steps, wrapped in a plastic bag. I've let them know that their safety is more important than my box. If I lived where people could see my home then I know things would be different, but my neighbors are 1.5 million chickens. 😊
Not often but occasionally the roads in town are closed for several days with no travel permitted where I live. Some people tend to ignore the no travel warning and usually get stuck and then need rescued.
The worst part for me is that most of the time, it’s funny when you slip ,slide and end up on your ass. But sometimes, you bruise a tailbone or break a wrist. It’s such a toss up 😂😂😂
I remember we had snow then got sleet, and no matter where you tried to walk, you fell. I fell so hard in the snow and hit my head. I had the worst headache for days. The snow was a solid sheet of ice.
Ice is ten times worse than snow when it comes to driving and walking. The fact that it's often nearly invisible makes it that much harder to navigate. I remember walking out of high school one time with a friend. There was a (salted) driveway between the building and the student parking lot. Once across the driveway, I stepped on the (unsalted) sidewalk on the other side, and there was zero traction beneath my feet whatsoever. Went right down in a heap. I wanted to laugh, but I had lost my wind when I hit the ground. My friend, who was maybe 10 feet behind me, was pointing and laughing hysterically. Then he absent-mindedly took the same big step from the asphalt onto the sidewalk and went right down himself. Instant karma, I guess. 😁
What's worst is your neighbor doesn't secure their garbage so it blows over onto your yard during a massive snowstorm. Then you slip on a flat piece of a cardboard box hidden under the ice and snow while walking your dog in your yard, you twist and land on your ankle while your dog freaks out and backs himself out of the harness, you have to get him while limping.

thats when you get off the pavement and walk in the grass

If I fall I’m laughing and have a hard time getting up. I get weak if I laugh hard. :))

one of the main reasons we live in Florida !!!! LOL
Zip tie brillo pads to your shoes or boots and you can walk on bare ice like it's concrete. It's why the Russians like those felt boots so much.
That music is killing me....🙉

Walkway nothing but glass. As soon as I see shiny, the salt comes right out. Done that.
