I bought this yesterday and I have to say, for a mid ranger, I'm quite impressed. I literally had this phone, the S8 and the S9 side by side in the store. While the S9 is clearly the superior phone, there isn't really a huge noticeable difference between the A8 and the S8. $400 NZD's cheaper than the S8 too. I'm not sure where these phones are overpriced exactly but here in NZ they seem to be reasonably priced. Smart choice if you don't have flagship money to play with.
Been using this phone for half a decade now, lived many lives with it. Served excellent. Retiring next week as galaxy a54 gets shipped. Hope it lasts as long and well.
Great review. I was shocked by the 9 hrs of SOT. It's very unusual for a phone with this size of battery to last you that long. Happy with the placement of the fingerprint scanner as well. For all those whom complain about the price please read this The a5 was basicly a lighter version of the s7 The a8? A lighter version of the s8 It's an a5 with infinity screen, LED notification and some better specs. Overal a really nice phone for the average phone user that doesn't demand an high-end phone For me this phone is 10/10. It's April 11th as I write this comment. And the phones price has dropped him 500 to a better 320 euros For that price this is an excellent quality/value asking price. But the 500$ start price was too steep for this phone to be an succes.
If people want 4k recording, by a video camera that has 4k. Phone are for talking and texting. Not video or pictures taking. Those are secondary attributes. Therefore, this phone provides all the necessary contents needed for a regular consumer. If your photographer who wants great pictures or video quality, get a photo camera ( DSLR ). Simple.
I just offered this to my 60-year old mum. Totally more than enough for her, excelent build quality, and I payed 210€ new. Samsung really knows how to do great products.
Hello from the future! It's October 2018, 9 months after this device's release, and at £270 on Amazon UK currently, this is looking like a pretty good mid-range purchase. I'd still like Android P support, but Oreo is more than recent enough for me to not really care about it (as well as it being likely that LineageOS or something else will probably get ported to this device soon).
Thanks. Finally someone points out the fact, that it can use 2 SIM cards AND a SD card. Hard to find phones which offer that (especially with these specs and price). Most reviews forget about that and complain that its not as good as the S7...
The A8 (2018) has all the features I'm looking for, at a price that's right (1080p AMOLED display, IP68 protection, FM radio, headphone jack, DAC audio quality, cameras, expandable storage, connectivity, sensors, great build quality & looks, & may even get Android Pie with One UI). So I'm planning on upgrading from a Nokia Lumia 820 as soon as I can afford it.

I swear ppl are stupid. New fresh out the box s8 are now 650, NOT 500$. Maybe s used refurbished, or cracked s8, is 500, but not new. The A8+ is 500 because it's a midranger. It wouldn't be smart business for Samsung to make the A8 have the same specs as the s8. And for the price they're given more than the ave midranger

They killed this phone by leaving out 4K video recording. The processor can support it. They left it out deliberately. Otherwise this would have been an excellent phone.

My previous phone had a fingerprint scanner at the front and I now find this one a bit inconvenient. Having it at the back makes it uncomfortable to use with the Samsung pay app for example. Also means needing to lift this phone up in order to unlock it, etc...

I have noticed when I bought A8 2018 using 1 sim only battery life is great but when I used the 2nd sim, battery life gets bit drained faster than using only 1 sim.. But overall I Loved it..

Between this and the Google Pixel 2 which one is the best buy? I can get both slightly used for 250 euros, I've heard great things about Pixel's camera but also disappointed people.
If only they didn`t take the OiS away, as it was in A5 2016 - it helps with taking pictures in poor lighting. Also 149mm is just 5mm too much for me (believe me, it still matters to many). If they got rid of bottom bezel, it would be just right. Before this happens, I`m not upgrading. Still with A5 2016, will move to S7, but no further. BTW. LG G6 seems a much better option than A8 ...
Get the LG G6 instead, in my opinion the G6 even looks more premium and it has got a 2016 flagship processor but that is more than enough, the G6 even has a 1440p display, but for me, the front camera can be a little disappointing in certain areas and the battery life is ok

For a mid ranged device the camera department of this phone is pretty good they just need to add more features on their camera especially 4k video recording and 120-240fps slow motion im happy if they will put at least 2k video recording with 60fps on their mid ranged devices on their A series hopefully in 2019 they will put it i still have a faith in their A series since i was using A7 2017
I have used the A8 since july 2018 and find it a very good phone only negative for me is the heavy weight of the battery but it does go the whole day easily.

So I'm choosing between this and the Pixel 2 or the XZ Premium. I'm not a particular heavy user, I barely play games, mostly just social media and youtube. What I'm looking in a smartphone are good speakers, user software experience and screen resolution. Ive tried this phone and it was awesome! Display, camera, design, features are all 👍 but of course no one will beat the s8. The only advantage of this phone is its fingerprint sensor and durability. When you drop s8 there's a big chance you'll break the display due to its infinity edge.. 🤔

For a mid ranged device the camera department of this phone is pretty good they just need to add more features on their camera especially 4k video recording and 120-240fps slow motion im happy if they will put at least 2k video recording with 60fps on their mid ranged devices on their A series hopefully in 2019 they will put it i still have a faith in their A series since i was using A7 2017
I have used the A8 since july 2018 and find it a very good phone only negative for me is the heavy weight of the battery but it does go the whole day easily.

It's priced competitively here in the Philippines. A8 users, how's the battery life? I'm currently using the Galaxy S7, and I could barely get four hours of screen on-time. I heard the S8 has similar issues after the Oreo update.

TechlineHD , Linus... Please I need to make a decision to get my sister a new phone. my budget is 35,000 taka in my region, which is roughly around $420 in USA. I'm torn between S7 edge and Galaxy A8 2018. My sister wants to use the phone for atleast two years. She does a lot of microsoft office works on her current phone( J5 2015) but now she is hoping to stay in samsung as she is more comfortable with samsung. I'd close my eyes and buy S7 edge blindly without question but the duration she wants to use the phone got me thinking- will S7 edge still support and able to handle most heavy games released in future? or A8 2018 is the better choice for the 2 years duration? please suggest

So I'm choosing between this and the Pixel 2 or the XZ Premium. I'm not a particular heavy user, I barely play games, mostly just social media and youtube. What I'm looking in a smartphone are good speakers, user software experience and screen resolution. For speakers, I'm leaning towards front firing speakers and having a headphone jack or not, I don't mind. I could care less for the camera but I do still want a good one to take good shots. I do have an external 64GB microSD at hand. So, any ideas which of the three I should get?

Ive tried this phone and it was awesome! Display, camera, design, features are all 👍 but of course no one will beat the s8. The only advantage of this phone is its fingerprint sensor and durability. When you drop s8 there's a big chance you'll break the display due to its infinity edge.. 🤔
