You watch a 2k clip and think „this is fine, this is a good representation what professional basketball looks like“. And then you watch a clip of an NBA game, heck even a WNBA game, and you snap back to reality. NBA players are quick, explosive and make split second movements, none of that feels present in the games. We are stuck in a chain of sluggish, predetermined animations. Hopefully one day we can get rid of collison animations like in the early NBA Live days, but with the added benefit of physics based collisions.

Many legacy issues for the last 6 years but more specifically the last 4 years STILL exist.. Players sliding and skating all over the court, janky movement, poor foot planting, enormous amount of suction, weird glitches, sometimes players catch passes that looks like they are catching a 70 pound weight ball. Players are slow when they shouldn’t be slow and fast when they shouldn’t be fast. Sometimes you just don’t feel like you have “complete control” because of the animated sequences. Sure there’s been some gameplay improvements, but these legacy issues still have been ignored for years now & that ruins the experience for many of us, no matter what mode is played. Just giving my opinion on 2k25 based on the hours I’ve spent on it. I love your channel bro 🦾 🔥

Whats up with these modern sports games making the gameplay slow as molasses. Achieving realism in video games is just not a good mix. I’d rather have user input and responsiveness to be the priority rather than the game being “realistic” or “simulation”.
That’s exactly why CFB 25 feels so good to play. It’s fast and responsive, even though it has animations underlying it. That was the defining factor of NCAA over Madden throughout their simultaneous release years. NCAA Football 06 feels like you’re constantly in control of a prime athlete.
Native modding support on release is HUGE, tools like the creation kit for Bethesda are what sustain games even after vanilla starts to become outdated

25 is definitely a step in the right direction. This is the first entry of 2ks that actually feel next gen in the next gen era of gaming. Pro play.2 with new animations is a masterpiece. Some things feel so life like it’s weird lol

I'm tired of everything being slightly early or slightly late and feeling that greening a shot was just an accident... seriously... until you get all the big shooting badges, your jump shot is dogshit... which translates to the game when you play with normal NBA players... non-star players are tragically annoying to play with... I literally upped the user shooting sliders so that I can make wide open 3s consistently which is sad... at the same time the AI has been made so that they literally don't miss open shots which is extremely unrealistic... being open doesn't mean you will shoot 100% accurate... sure you can hit like 60% of your open 3s but hitting every single one is retarded... even mediocre shooters are very consistently hitting shots when open... sorry but I wouldn't count on Jimmy Butler hitting 3 after 3 even if he was open...
I played a mycareer game against Kawhi Leonard, and it was scary how much it looked exactly like Kawhi hooping out there. Imagine ProPlay for a simulation football game 👀
The went back to a more animation based style of gameplay like it used to be to be in the X360/early PS3 days. Passes the eye test but at the cost of player control.
There's too many changes in gameplay to where it doesn't feel the same. They removed most of the camera angles in practice mode for some reason unbeknownst to me. Shooting has been the most important change to talk about since they made it more complex by adding in the visual profiles along with keeping the visual cues in check. In my opinion, the shooting and defense feels more like NBA Live than a 2K game, where the CPU hits everything while you can't hit a shot, even wide-open because of all the cues not being checked off.
I just hope that they don’t nerf the VC like they have done in the past, so that you have to BUY your VC instead of earning it organically. Yes I know you can still do that, but when they nerfed it, the in game VC dropped severely.
Substitution bug is the worst thing in the game to me. Fouls are finally fixed thanks to the defense changes, and the game feels actually realistic and fun (i did adjust a few sliders, but it wasn't many). For me, this gameplay has been the best 2K since 14, maybe even better, albeit needing subs fixed for sure.
I’m sticking to my guns I’m not buying any more 2k’s . I can’t pay $75 for a game and still have to put another $150 into it just to be decent at it. I don’t play park anyway so I’m not missing out on anything

I think these are great points that were put out to let people know the pros and cons of the game this year. For me, I just can't do it. I've gotten 2k every year since 2k16 and I had noticed how it seemed like it was getting worse year by year with some good things here and there. 2k24 broke it for me. With the inclusion of the battle pass and level skips, the new TOS in the middle of February and the removal of the auction house which also included the removal of the Kobe Bryant MyTeam reward card the day it was supposed to come out was just the point where I had to take a break and not sure if I will go back to it. Hopefully, 2k25 is better but I don't have my hopes up for that.
Why at the end call it a must buy when there's so many things wrong with the franchise and admitted bad bugs? Even if it plays better, call it a "not worth 70$ buy on a sale" or "check in after some patches" ?
I haven't had an NBA2K game since NBA2K19, so regardless of others' criticisms, NBA2K25 will be better than what I have, so I'm thankful & excited to buy it.
Shady since its no pro play landings with % you should try low risk reward with the shot impact timing on 1% youll still really dont have to time it but youll get the animations!!!! I do that every year with your sliders to get landings
Thanks for this update. I'm on the fence for basketball. More football, baseball fan. But I have been following basket since the days of Kareem, Magic and such. So the Eras intrigues me, but need to know playing as MyNBA forward I get the correct drafts. It's all CPUvsCPU for me. I just got to get a game on my PC for NBA. This might be the year. But likely I wait until some cut prices. But rosters needs to be perfect (close at least) I'm counting on you Shady to keep the updating going. (That sub thing must be fixed) Got to ask one thing on simulation. Read something one can't sim games but need to play out every one of the 82. Surely I can pick interresting games to "watch".
for turnovers they need to make it like an RPG game. If a PF with a 59 passing rating, passes to a SG with 83 catching rating while he has a SF with a 93 deflection rating, 90 defensive rating. That should lead into a deflection or a steal. Something like that.. you can also throw in a random luck generator too. This can go for blocks, player actually catching the ball cleanly or fumbling it.
have they finally fixed cpu gameplay?! (fyi I play my own personalized mycareer using player lock in myleague) I feel like gameplay difficulty has been trash since about 2k14, back when I was playing 2k13 each game was different, and also felt like if I was on a better team I had an edge in winning. When I play 2k in recent years I either win every game by 80 on lower difficulties or lose every game by 40 on HOF, no in between.
Need the sliders asap! Another thing that bothers me in this game is that star players should be as good as they are but if they are shooting the ball everytime giving the other team 60 a night then it’s not really a resemblance of basketball bc no one else is shooting.
The movement is what really just ruins the game for me It just feels So sluggish this year Steals are absolutely horrible as well I legit will watch players 360 spin between a double team and watch the ball animate through bodies and still be in possession The screens are bad to I’ve legit got dragged into screens that are to my left while I’m going right like it’ll legit suck me into it And this is before we get into the shooting aspect of the game Shooting is just completely off this year I’ve made like 10 diff jump shots and I just can’t get shots to fall no matter how Open I am Then you add in the delay that comes with being in park and theater it’s just a world of frustration I’ll prob come back in 2-3 months when updates and patches come for this shit It’s just ridiculous that they charge 69.99 for this game and it’s still bugged out like this

MyNBA and Eras have no microtransactions that I’ve seen. People complain about that and the online aspect, but trash the game as a whole. I don’t play that so I will never encounter the issues.

At some point it is also, sad that this big studios with big budgets are still releasing a game and selling them at a full price, with lot's of bugs on them that can be addressed before release and, this big studios all depends on the communities that they built to be their QA team, for free.

I got a refund on mine. I had said i wasn't going to get it this year but ended up getting it but i got my money back. Itll be on gamepass in a few months
Substitutions not working is a massive deal breaker for me. All I play is MyLeague so obviously the bench is a big deal in that mode, especially with how fatigue affects them more and more as the season goes on. I imagine this is something that will be fixed quick though, but until then I have to pass.
Yessir.. i agreed with everything you said gang. I think imma apply your 2k24 roster edits to this joint. To see if'll make the gameplay just a little better, than what it is out the box. But like I mentioned to my friend. This is the first 2k, that felt like an actual next gen version, of 2k. 21-23 felt like ports. 24 felt like a slight upgrade, with the introduction of "Pro Play". And now, with the revamped dribbling system, and fine tuning of Pro Play. We may actually have a 2k game we can enjoy, for the whole development cycle. I knew this one was a banger, when I was in "Learn 2k" freestyle. For over an hour lol.
Sounds like a review from a mod perspective we want to know if it’s good without the mods or we need to depend on them again which is cool but takes time away from the game playing experience, which is not worth it..

mann 2 minutes into this video and I'm already not stunting 2K right now.. all these videos about how fluid the dribbling and animations feel, but at 2:20 2K is LITERALLY trying to force you into a shitty lay up and get blocked by KP.. a literal wide open filay with the right hand off the glass, but the algorithms want you to get blocked for some shitty reason..
Normally I'd agree with you, but you're wrong on this one. That is Maxey's animation when you press the right stick to the left. If I wanted to do a right handed layup I should have pressed the stick to the right. I'm still learning some of the controls but that one is on me.
So I noticed towards the end that you kept saying things are fixable with sliders. I'm not a sliders type of person. It's just my opinion but I don't believe you should have to adjust sliders to make the game better. I think it should be played the way it comes so with that said my question, is this game fun and realistic without having to adjust sliders?
I say this with all due respect, and I hope you'll hear me out. It doesn't matter if you think the game should play perfectly for you right out of the box. 2K is a business, and their goal is to make the game as accessible as possible to a broad audience. How do they do that? By using an arcade style gameplay that appeals to a wide range of players. So to answer your first question, Is the game fun without sliders? That's subjective. For me, it's not, because I prefer Simulation basketball. Is it realistic? Well of course not, it's an arcade videogame that's not trying to be. Personally, I never play 2K or any sports game without adjusting sliders, because I understand that as a 31 y/o "oldhead" I'm no longer the target audience. And I'm ok with that because they give me the tools to make the game play the way I want, and tbh IMO that's all we can ask for. At the end of the day it will ultimately be up to you to decide if you want to put the work in to get an enjoyable experience because at the end of the day that's what Sports gaming is today. NBA 2K25 is a great game with my sliders, my channel members are enjoying them now and when I release them to the public everyone else will be enjoying the game too. Hopefully you'll be back around to try them for yourself.

I'm a 33 year old old-head and I much preferred the arcade style of NBA Live 10 and 16 cuz it still felt real enough to me so it was a good balance but I've never adjusted sliders because anytime that I tried, I've made the game harder or so easy that I win big and it's not competitive. I want the game to be close without making me want to break my controller from ripoffs. I know 2k is all about money but I just wish they would make the game acceptable without adjusting sliders. It already takes time to adjust the controller settings where they need to be and I've got other games I want to play so I don't want to put in 2 weeks before I get the game to play how I want not to mention having to adjust to each patch. As an old head i just believe in setting it to a certain difficulty and playing it. Like you said though it's all subjective. I appreciate the feedback bro.

So, the take I have doesn't impact me whatsoever, because I'm not a modder. However, let's say I am. Could I get compensated in some type of way if I fundamentally fix the base game? Do modders get that already? Because they should. No way I pay $70-150 for a game and a truckload of VC annually and FIX THE GAME on top of that. An egregious rip-off if that's the case.

Luckily I'm a casual fan so I don't get into that mode of buying roster updates every year...I'll just get a NBA game every few years so maybe then I will see one new feature or a removed feature brought back sigh EA and 2k.....but it was worth 30$ on sale cause I haven't gotten a 2k in several years
I was curious If it got, at least, better when it comes to gameplay - I enjoyed watching the video and I don't consider any criticism as "too much detailed" (how else it's gonna get fixed If nobody points it out) - my whole issue with NBA 2K is a problem you didn't touch on (because that just wasn't the goal of the video) and is completely different ballpark - I just don't buy it because I refuse to support PGI3 rated casino, I am sorry... and the paywalls rising even in my carrer are simply ridiculous. However I wanted to point out something that I found really funny and that was mentioning "it's best basketball game in 10 years", well yeah, cause it's the only basketball game released, it was about time it got a bit better instead of investing dev time to strategies on how to get more money out of packs... It's probably the main issue that there is no other competition for 2K, If there was I think we all could be enjoying much better game. Shady since its no pro play landings with % you should try low risk reward with the shot impact timing on 1% youll still really dont have to time it but youll get the animations!!!! I do that every year with your sliders to get landings

Thanks for this update. I'm on the fence for basketball. More football, baseball fan. But I have been following basket since the days of Kareem, Magic and such. So the Eras intrigues me, but need to know playing as MyNBA forward I get the correct drafts. It's all CPUvsCPU for me.

for turnovers they need to make it like an RPG game. If a PF with a 59 passing rating, passes to a SG with 83 catching rating while he has a SF with a 93 deflection rating, 90 defensive rating. That should lead into a deflection or a steal. Something like that.. you can also throw in a random luck generator too. This can go for blocks, player actually catching the ball cleanly or fumbling it.
Are there long rebounds? That also creates fast breaks in real life

have they finally fixed cpu gameplay?! (fyi I play my own personalized mycareer using player lock in myleague) I feel like gameplay difficulty has been trash since about 2k14, back when I was playing 2k13 each game was different, and also felt like if I was on a better team I had an edge in winning. When I play 2k in recent years I either win every game by 80 on lower difficulties or lose every game by 40 on HOF, no in between.
Need the sliders asap! Another thing that bothers me in this game is that star players should be as good as they are but if they are shooting the ball everytime giving the other team 60 a night then it’s not really a resemblance of basketball bc no one else is shooting.
The movement is what really just ruins the game for me

I am looking for a game with full of microtransactions and in order to have fun you have to pay. I heard this is the perfect game.
MyNBA and Eras have no microtransactions that I’ve seen. People complain about that and the online aspect, but trash the game as a whole. I don’t play that so I will never encounter the issues.

Animation look good player models. But the uniforms from nba2k14 needs to be brought back.
Substitutions not working is a massive deal breaker for me. All I play is MyLeague so obviously the bench is a big deal in that mode, especially with how fatigue affects them more and more as the season goes on. I imagine this is something that will be fixed quick though, but until then I have to pass.

Yessir.. i agreed with everything you said gang. I think imma apply your 2k24 roster edits to this joint. To see if'll make the gameplay just a little better, than what it is out the box. But like I mentioned to my friend. This is the first 2k, that felt like an actual next gen version, of 2k. 21-23 felt like ports. 24 felt like a slight upgrade, with the introduction of "Pro Play". And now, with the revamped dribbling system, and fine tuning of Pro Play. We may actually have a 2k game we can enjoy, for the whole development cycle. I knew this one was a banger, when I was in "Learn 2k" freestyle. For over an hour lol.

Sounds like a review from a mod perspective we want to know if it’s good without the mods or we need to depend on them again which is cool but takes time away from the game playing experience, which is not worth it..

mann 2 minutes into this video and I'm already not stunting 2K right now.. all these videos about how fluid the dribbling and animations feel, but at 2:20 2K is LITERALLY trying to force you into a shitty lay up and get blocked by KP.. a literal wide open filay with the right hand off the glass, but the algorithms want you to get blocked for some shitty reason..
Normally I'd agree with you, but you're wrong on this one. That is Maxey's animation when you press the right stick to the left. If I wanted to do a right handed layup I should have pressed the stick to the right. I'm still learning some of the controls but that one is on me.

So I noticed towards the end that you kept saying things are fixable with sliders. I'm not a sliders type of person. It's just my opinion but I don't believe you should have to adjust sliders to make the game better. I think it should be played the way it comes so with that said my question, is this game fun and realistic without having to adjust sliders?

It doesn't matter if you think the game should play perfectly for you right out of the box. 2K is a business, and their goal is to make the game as accessible as possible to a broad audience. How do they do that? By using an arcade style gameplay that appeals to a wide range of players.
So to answer your first question, Is the game fun without sliders? That's subjective. For me, it's not, because I prefer Simulation basketball. Is it realistic? Well of course not, it's an arcade videogame that's not trying to be. Personally, I never play 2K or any sports game without adjusting sliders, because I understand that as a 31 y/o "oldhead" I'm no longer the target audience. And I'm ok with that because they give me the tools to make the game play the way I want, and tbh IMO that's all we can ask for. At the end of the day it will ultimately be up to you to decide if you want to put the work in to get an enjoyable experience because at the end of the day that's what Sports gaming is today.
NBA 2K25 is a great game with my sliders, my channel members are enjoying them now and when I release them to the public everyone else will be enjoying the game too. Hopefully you'll be back around to try them for yourself.
@ShadyMike I get where you're coming from. I'm a 33 year old old-head and I much preferred the arcade style of NBA Live 10 and 16 cuz it still felt real enough to me so it was a good balance but I've never adjusted sliders because anytime that I tried, I've made the game harder or so easy that I win big and it's not competitive. I want the game to be close without making me want to break my controller from ripoffs. I know 2k is all about money but I just wish they would make the game acceptable without adjusting sliders. It already takes time to adjust the controller settings where they need to be and I've got other games I want to play so I don't want to put in 2 weeks before I get the game to play how I want not to mention having to adjust to each patch. As an old head i just believe in setting it to a certain difficulty and playing it. Like you said though it's all subjective. I appreciate the feedback bro.

Luckily I'm a casual fan so I don't get into that mode of buying roster updates every year...I'll just get a NBA game every few years so maybe then I will see one new feature or a removed feature brought back sigh EA and 2k.....but it was worth 30$ on sale cause I haven't gotten a 2k in several years

I was curious If it got, at least, better when it comes to gameplay - I enjoyed watching the video and I don't consider any criticism as "too much detailed" (how else it's gonna get fixed If nobody points it out) - my whole issue with NBA 2K is a problem you didn't touch on (because that just wasn't the goal of the video) and is completely different ballpark - I just don't buy it because I refuse to support PGI3 rated casino, I am sorry... and the paywalls rising even in my carrer are simply ridiculous. However I wanted to point out something that I found really funny and that was mentioning "it's best basketball game in 10 years", well yeah, cause it's the only basketball game released, it was about time it got a bit better instead of investing dev time to strategies on how to get more money out of packs... It's probably the main issue that there is no other competition for 2K, If there was I think we all could be enjoying much better game.
