I thought the reactions to rainwater nerf were cope, but I’m wrong. Axl cannot convert of stray hits really at all anymore unless the scenario is just perfect. Lack of conversion is what kills characters in this game
But the changes on axl specifically hurt his combo potential, and they buffed the zoning moves by giving them more damage when used at max range… Am I missing something about rainwater loops here? I never got to play the pre-s4 axl.
@@kalebgernander84 Arcsys killed Axl's combo potential with the rainwater changes, before S4 rainwater had a vacuum effect, which allowed a combo to be followed with c.S/2S > 5H > Rensen. It also allowed you to access a combo of Axl Bomber loops near the wall with rainwater > c.S > Axl Bomber. Now rainwater is a better deffensive tool than before, even you can rainwater > 5P > Rensen, but it's an overall downgrade for Axl's gameplan and wipes out his best source of damage, what are Axl Bombers. Better zoning but worse damage overall in a game where if you get hit twice, you die.
@@Kitikirii But that's my point, isn't it? OP said someone on the design team hated zoning, and this update pushes Axl towards zoning hard. I understand from what you're saying that the changes makes the character worse, less *saucy*, but not worse at zoning.
@@kalebgernander84 I think someone in the balance team doesn't really hate zoners, it seems like he hates “complex execution” inputs or mechanics, I feel this game more braindead now, I mean, no one asked for a entire rework of most of the cast, we just wanted less damage for the top tiers and more damages for the bad characters, maybe a new mechanic, maybe a new movement like Chipp's rope… But nope, did you spent 500 hours playing a character? Hehe you shouldn't. I mean, if “that man” hate zoners, Johnny or HC would be worst, but they still are zoners with good tools to run at your face. Or well, the people working in the balance team just doesn't play the game.
Nice to see that tatuma's got season 4 sol more figured out but man Axl is just so sad to watch now. The loss of rainwater loops is such a big mistake, Dabo tries real hard to keep tatuma out and when dabo does land a big counter hit it just leads into nothing. I also cant say i enjoy watching season 4 sol too much cause his combos just aren't as engaging as they were in season 3. Dabo does have some crazy defense against sol and tatuma still has insane decision making skills. But watching this set compared to the one uploaded a month ago just makes me sad.
@@vad889 rain water used to suck in basically and allow for loops and more (fun) combos and now he doesnt have a vacuum on rain water so its less fun and he is worse
they clearly want axl to be your standard keep away zoner, but even then, his tools are so limited and lax for keepaway that most characters WILL get in and WILL blow you up. arcsys sure buffed his damage and nerfed rainwater to make him fit their ideal archetype, but its not enough. The whole game is so skewed to offense and bombastic damage+pressure that it only takes one slip up to die on a character that isnt even that tricky or oppressive. really sad.
Jump cancellable normals with two hits (Millia close slash, Sol 5K, etc.) have an option select that will jump cancel the first hit if the opponent bursts, but allow them to still continue the combo as if there was no jump cancel if the opponent doesn't burst, making the first hit completely burst safe. It's a lot harder to do with Sol 5K, but it's definitely still possible.
Can we get 3P back for Axl now that was a fucking awesome move as a matter of fact, bring 3P back, rainwater loops back and added that DP while you’re at it Daisuke
If they want axl playing at a distance, then actually put something in his gameplay to encourage it, not put pithy damage as the replacement for his significantly worse routing, zoning, and less safe reversal. Like ouch.
the archetype of “keepaway zoner so lower health and damage” really just doesnt work if there is like nothing really good to make up for it. Like all ofher tricky characters can profit off of knockdown and mix, but axl had nothing to profit off of. just sorry tools and a weak kit….

As a Axl main myself, I'm so damn tired of people whining under every single Axl vid He's better than he was before, stop coping just cause you can't play a zoner character like a rushdown
We are mad because he got gutted. He was already not the best, but he got like a few bandages and then had his face caved In. The 6k rensen and damage buffs are nice, but rainwater gets ruined. Damage despite being increased goes down over all. Not just that, the top tiers who have been good for a good chunk of time got massive buffs. It feels like the devs have favorites. We just want to buffed and have some fun, but we get punished for it.
its always has been arcsys likes to nerf low tiers and buffs top tiers they are doing it since the beginning of strive u have to expect this kind of behaviour from arcsys every single major patch although they are doing the same thing to there othet games like dbfz @@Dude9106
