    There are so many ds jrpgs that only have fan patches. Thank God for the fans, so many peak games wouldn't be playable without them!

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Right. Even so, by the time of the DS the market was more globalized than in the 90s. It was much worse before.
      Looking back at it, it's bizarre that a lot of major rpg releases, that shaped the genre history, missed a western release. Many debuts of franchises that turned out very appealing in the west, like Tales of Phantasia, 6 (!) mainline Fire Emblem games released in the Nes, Snes and Gba, a lot of Shin Megami Sensei games on various systems, and actually even some early Final Fantasy games. I have no idea what went over the heads of the decision makers in the companies at that time.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That completely distorted the western perception of the rpg genre in a chronological sense. For example: Fire Emblem was successful in Japan since the early games and it was a big factor to warm up the market for srpgs. But then the western had the releases of peers or rivals like Shining Force and Final Fantasy Tactics... not the originator of a whole subgenre. Fire Emblem only debuted in the west 10+ years later in the Gba. So the west didn't grow with Marth, who is the protag of the first game. By the time he first appeared in Smash Bros he was already very famous in Japan, but the west missed all that history and culture.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This game belongs to a period of better creative talent and creative aspirations in the scene. A whole culture that never returned... As even indies lack ability to contribute to the scene in that aspect.
      Nowadays it's all about copying each other and endless polishing of old formulas, and nostalgia exploiting. The genre is strictly sustained by those old ideas, it would be ruined if it depended on the newer generations of devs to invent anything.

      @@danielgrezda3339wow lol that’s insane, I had never heard of any examples where a developer had actually used a fan translation before, because I have ALWAYS seen the community and fan translators offer their work to the devs but they were ALWAYS rejected (for a lot of reasons, a lot are understandable but of course pride is also another factor lol) the most notable example being tomato offering his work to Nintendo to use on mother 3, but this would be the first instance of a dev actually using it, which blows my mind! I know they’re a smaller AA studio with a lot less resources as the big boys but that’s still admirable for them to do! I hope they see that as a huge indicator about the popularity of the franchise in the west and to support western projects a lot more from now on lol

    I played Namco x Capcom because I was importing some JP only Tales games in the mid-00s and picked it up too due to having Tales characters. Had so much fun with it! Especially loved characters with long combo attacks since I had fun learning how to time it to max out the number of attacks I could use (Rutee's Bloody Rose was the one I got best at...I swear I got so much Bonus EXP that I had more EXP than not-overleveled characters at the end of a fight).
    Still praying they'll remake the Jugdral games and Binding Blade and finally get them, even if they'll probably censor Genealogy to hell and back (I'll just sit here and laugh at all their sidestepping since I know the original story).

    what you didnt mention: FE12 aka New Mystery of the Emblem, was the first to make the perma death option optional, which people still blame FE:A, the FE13 game and first 3DS one, and has quite some details. From based on your outfit different nickname you get to different classes to pick and way more healthier included sidecontent in compare to Shadow Dragon, where the new characters get more screentime for it. It's quite unique among the FE titles!

    Really, try Mystic Ark for the SNES, spiritual successor (and much better game) of 7th Saga. Yeah it may have a generic name, but the game is excellent. Using arks, you travel from the main mysterious temple through different worlds full of imagination like the world of cats, world of fruits, world of children, world of machines, world of giants, world of fairytales, etc. On top of that, the soundtrack is very good. It is the quintessence of a true HIDDEN gem.

Load the English patch version back up with the new save and you are good. You can avoid this all together apparently by selecting the ". . ." "Official English translations" were often terrible even in more recent JRPGs. Unicorn Overlord was a great example of this. There were many times a character clearly only said another character's name, but the English subtitles shows something else. What's worse was when the Japanese actors only said a few words, but the English subtitles shows a paragraph of several sentences.
