This is a really nice resource to find some older games to try on Switch, and honestly while I already have the Castlevania Collection, this is the first time I’ve ever actually felt excited to try out the original Castlevania. Your appreciation for the games really came through, great job on the video!
Excellent video, definitely some great recommendations. Some more retro games that are worth mentioning that everyone needs to play are - okami hd - streetfighter 30th anniversary - cotton reboot (X68000 original) Panorama cotton, cotton 100% and the cotton saturn tribute - zombie nation - Shantae, Shantae riskys revenge, Shantae and the pirates curse, Shantae half genie hero and last Shantae and the seven sirens (last 3 are just ports, but they're still noteworthy) - dodonpachi daioujou - ikaruga - G Darius and the Darius cosmic collection - Star ocean first departure R - guilty gear collection - moon rpg remix - ni no kuni - no more heros 1 and 2 - river city girls zero - secret of mana collection and legend of mana - doom slayers collection - quake - Grandia collection - dothack (.hack) - neo geo pocket selection vol 1 - valis the phantasm solider collection - fatal frame maiden in black water - zelda skyward sword - mario 3d all stars - saga frontier - Aleste collection - megaman zero/zx collection - ty the Tasmanian tiger 1 and 2 (3 isn't out yet) - Toaplan arcade garage - Namcot collection - ninja jajamaru collection - deathsmiles 1 and 2 - Azure striker gunvolt striker pack - capcom belt action collection - prinny 1-2 exploded and reloaded I know this isn't everything but hey, I got a small portion of stuff here.
the Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection is one of the most essential retro releases on the platform. near perfect emulation of 8 games with some great preservation features. fantastic options for 2 players locally, and some nice quality of life updates. one of my favorite things about the Switch is that it has no shortage of retro - both in digital AND physical formats!
Great video! I love my Switch, but as I'm shifting over to PC gaming as a primary platform, I use my Switch almost exclusively for compilations of retro games, arcade titles, and anything that's a good quick pick-up-and-play game. I really, really was hoping they would have continued the Sega Ages line. They were starting to reach into the lesser known Sega library with stuff like Virtua Racing, Ichidant-R, and Herzog Zwei.. I bought nearly all of the Sega Ages titles on principle to try and support further development (and to encourage them to port something other than Sonic games again and again), but alas, the series is over. I want my Virtua Cop 2 and Dynamite Deka ports! I still maintain the opinion that the Phantasy Star rerelease on the Switch is one of the best re-releases of anything ever. That in-game guide with the auto map and the fast-forward button that doesn't speed up the music are a godsend, and they make the game so much more palatable.
I know it's 2 years old but... great list, excellent video! If I were to make a list it would be profoundly different from this one as I'm not big on platformers or shooters, though. But I would strongly recommend a ton of the Arcade Archives games, for sure. Along with Skyforce Reloaded (old school retro style), Fight 'n Rage (a newer game with very old school style), and others.
Love these. Have ordered Asher in Monster World on the strength of this to get Monster World IV. I actually own Wonder Boy in Monster World on Mega Drive and love it!
Man your channel has been around awhile. Def like your taste in games. Retro all the way! Crosscode Celeste and hollow knight, The messenger, Shovel Knight, Towerfall, Earthblade carry on!
Hello, thanks for the video, great list, took some items to my backlog. I have a question though, which controller do you prefer for playing shmups? Thanks!
Solomon's key was actually originally an arcade game. I prefer Solomon's Club on gameboy. I feel like it plays smoother. It's one of my go to games. Kirby super star is my favorite platformer ever, full stop.
Awesome games...contra3 is in my top 3 all time. Others on switch...Aleste collection...NGPC color vol 1, Capcom beat em ups bundle, Musihihimesama, Dodonpachi resurrection.....and i am compelled to bring up again Monster Rancher Explorer GBC the hidden final game in the solomons key series! Snag it quick!
It’s a shame that GunBird 2 is a bit laggy by all accounts. That being said it’s great that soooo many shooters are coming to the Switch in physical form, though you have to be on to to get them all as a lot of them come via limited print companies :(. Great shoot out on ESP Re Da. It’s good to see it finally get a home port and you’re right M2 did a stellar job on it as they done with all the M2ShotTriggers games. Great stuff Nick.
Cool selection man, but if you love playing shmups on your tate tv you definitivly should use an arcade stick : it offers far better feeling and fun (stick like Hori Hayabusa RAP for Switch). My favorite Psyko shmup is 1945-2. Greetings from France.
Funnily enough, I’m playing through Asha in Monster World right now, just got to the final boss. I’ve enjoyed it, although I definitely prefer The Dragon’s Trap and Monster Boy games. Not sure if I’m going to play through the original game or not. I’m also really annoyed with the game, I missed only 3 of the blue life drops but I cannot get them now as the Pepelogo decided to get fat and I can’t use him anymore to double jump. I hate it when games do that but don’t warn you beforehand. Means I have to play the whole game again to get 100%, I probably won’t bother.
Even though you’ve played Asha, I’d still definitely recommend you try the original! It feels much more polished, and just nicer to play in general compared to the remake
Man I would kill for a Umihara Kawase trilogy on the switch! Sadly we're left with just Bazooka and Fresh, easily the two worst entries in the series :'(
So glad you included Ristar in this collection! Love the game to pieces. On a side note, have you seen this fan made prototype for a sequel? th-cam.com/video/MqGEQs-yY6g/w-d-xo.html

The emulation was done by M2
Thanks for the list
YES!! Super Probotector = ULTRA Gem! (especially in couch coop!)

Thanks! Yeah so sad about Sega Ages! I never got round to downloading the Phantasy Star one, but the improvements they made look fantastic!

I bought a switch to get all the retro games
Sad to see most aren’t on there along with advanced games
Man your channel has been around awhile. Def like your taste in games.
Retro all the way! Crosscode Celeste and hollow knight, The messenger, Shovel Knight, Towerfall, Earthblade carry on!
Glad you found my channel! Seems like you've been enjoying it so far! :D
Great suggestions!

Two that I'm excited to replay at some point are the Fire Emblem port and the Grandia Collection.
Big like dropped 👍

I got an arcade stick shortly after making this video actually! :D
Love the shooters you picked. Are the shooters on separate games or part of a collection?
If you like Rodlands, go checkout the remake of Pang.
I love Banjo Kazooie
9:05 Sonic 2's great but I think Mania wins for pure fun 2D Sonic.
What is that t.v. that flips like that for shooter games??? Thats nice I like that and have never seen that specific thing...
Any TV can do that, is the monitor arm that rotates, just attach it to any monitor or tv with a mount on the back

ESP Ra. De. Appears to be delisted on the Switch or just not available in North America…
Oh man I love Ristar
Only sadly there is no Umihara Kawase trilogy to be able to comment on the same thing :c
Man I would kill for a Umihara Kawase trilogy on the switch! Sadly we're left with just Bazooka and Fresh, easily the two worst entries in the series :'(
¿Retro games on Switch?
The King of fighters series.
Fatal Fury Real Bout 2.
Garou Mark of the Wolf.
Aereo Fighters II.
Doom.
Turok/Turok 2.
I will hate the switch until they put Pokémon gold and silver on it.
Hell, heart gold remaster and even i would jump on it.
Not sure what you meant by this being the first port of rodland … the 16 bits computers take offense :D
This is the first arcade perfect port. All the 16bit releases were reprogrammed for the computers, this is running the arcade rom
Cant find esprade on the switch estore
So glad you included Ristar in this collection! Love the game to pieces.
On a side note, have you seen this fan made prototype for a sequel? th-cam.com/video/MqGEQs-yY6g/w-d-xo.html
Mario 3d all stars
The og Megaman Legacy Collection has poor emulation
Jk how do comments work
Wtf is monster world
Zero is better than X
