Joey looks like he really is from the stone age, frozen in ice for 50,000 years and defrosted because he's the only person who could drum intensely enough
Hell yeah; it's just not the same without Joey these days His wild, feral cave man style and energy that made qotsa so perfect just can't be replicated
Mark is looking rough here but by the time they get to Song for the Dead he's warm and cookin' How could he not, its the best band he's had behind him. During Dave and Joey's reign they really featured the drums and they both never disappointed
Mark Lanegan - who passed away 02.22.22 at 57 - possessed a voice unlike anyone else. No matter what he sang, you FEEL his voice in your soul. And Lanegan sang it all, from the psychedelia of the Trees, to his early solo blues albums to the experimental electronica of his later ones, acoustic, metal, New wave, EDM, noise rock, electro punk, a Christmas album, from his solo interpretations of old standards or teaming up to duet with so many different vocalists - whether for one song or multiple albums, his wife teasingly saying Lanegan the Collaborator - Can't Say No To Anyone. His final project, Dark Mark vs Skeleton Joe AKA Joe Cardamom, is strange, surreal, fun, somber, and above all, beautiful. I also love his 2 albums w/Greg Dulli as *The Gutter Twins*, his 3 albums with Isobel Campbell, his solo albums, especially Field Songs, Blues Funeral, and Gargoyle, and a song (for kids!) called *Sneakers*. Also, there's a video & DL posted by QOTSA Archive from the Songs for Deaf tour called *Songs from Amsterdam* that contains a whole separate "secret" acoustic set - after Mark sings one song alone and a capella, Josh says, "Goddamn, Lanegan!" cuz it's just THAT good.
Fukkin...I'm 41 & I had to look that shit up on the Google thing. I kinda get it. If you're into that, it works... Lots of people just go with Mark Lanegan appears & it's the most intense combination of terrified and horny you couldn't handle it. Tho he's referred to himself as 'Dark Mark', Josh called him "the meanest nice guy ever" & an interviewer ask Mark if he knew what Josh was saying, Lanegan almost kinda smiled & super sexily laughed in the creepiest way possible... silence... "Yeah. I do."
I saw them in 05 in DC. Lanegan was there and sang on Hangin Tree, Song for the dead, and Precious and Grace. Someone in the crowd yelled out "IN THE FADE!" and for a moment I thought they would play it. It pains me that I will never see Lanegan sing that song live. RIP.
I wonder if the 12-string Josh plays on "Another Love Song" is the very same one as the one Troy has been playing on versions of "I Appear Missing". It's at least the same model, but I wonder if they trade guitars ... I watch way too many live QOTSA videos... Speaking of which, Josh and Troy's solos on "Song for the Dead" here are among my favorites.
austin kendall yea i think your right, its at the very least the same model. troy does play the gold les paul he used on the sftd tour occasionally though
I dig Troy's double neck 12-6 string He had Fender make. Merged the Jazzmaster and Jaguar. There's a cool video about it on here. 13 lbs. I've seen them the last 4 tours. I hope to see them again. We need them, it's just them now. We haven't had the good Turbonegro for a long time.
Am I the only one that thinks Kyuss was far better? The way it all sounds so full of passion, and the fact that Alfredo Henrnadez and Scott Reeder sound so much better than Nick Oliveri and Joey.
Cocaine is a helluva drug.... haven't you gotten that memo? LMAO at myself, smh cuz sometimes "the cocaine made me me do it" is, uh.... a valid argument (That I'm fukkin thrilled I havent had to make in like a decade, for real) I dunno about Joey's issues with it, but Nick was essentially let go cuz - in his own words- he had a bad coke problem and treated people, esp women, in a way he's ashamed of... see also Nick holds girlfriend hostage for 4 hours while a SWAT team surrounds his place and negotiates with. The Cocaine/Nick for her release (seriously) It must've been especially hard on Lanegan, who was way more into heroin- like he looks like Layne fukkin Staley here it's kinda obvious - than cocaine. Although I thought meth was thing on that coast...
19:07 Ladies and Gentlemen one of the most badass songs in music history...that drum pattern has Grohl written all over it. Typical of him, the same example can be heard in Scentless Apprentice.
QotSA is what these "indie rock" bands aspire to be but fail to be because they want to be it too much. Weird and creative in a beautiful way, while still being that next door band.
Really, How is it possible some human beings reach this point? They played Regular John in a manner that is just so heavy, so heavy... It's just scary...
And smoke a lot of cigarettes to make his voice got raspy. It's a common joke about Lanegans voice (but true, Mark even recognize that his cigarette problem make his got very deep and raspy). But it sounds cool and dark
Why does everyone like Joey so much? He rushes like crazy and he can't play a song at the correct tempo! I mean faster brings more energy but he's totally fucking up the vocals and it doesn't even sound good honestly.
How he plays during A Song For The Dead ultra pisses me off; the parts where it should be fast he's slow, and the parts it should be slow he plays WAYYYY too fast
I've heard several live recordings where josh asks to play "uptempo". He can play on tempo when he wants to. There's plenity of qotsa videos where he plays at regular tempo also.
He fit the band better once he began recording music with Josh. Remember here he got almost a year playing with them. Got the gig one day and literally next day went on tour.

Jesus I love Mark Lanegan's voice I wish he'd sing on a entire Qotsa record. It would be fucking amazing!
only reason why I never listen to songs for the deaf is because of Mark, can't stand him
Havoc his voice on song for the deaf is fucking brilliant, how come you don’t like him?
