John and Olivier grew up in Melbourne in the 60s and 70s and were leading members of the city’s music scene before they both went on to international careers, but still maintained their Australian roots. They are both best of friends….

Great reaction... their chemistry stems from a very long friendship... it gets the heartstrings, just beautiful.. Apparently the day he was diagnosed was the day Livy died... Must have been so hard for him..

Olivia was going through her second bout of cancer at this time. Incredible that this is being performed live - such perfection. They both performed together after this concert and recorded together as well and they sang at the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Olivia died only a week or so before John’s cancer announcement. Earlier this year, John lost his best friend (his manager, Glenn Wheatley) following complications from Covid. John’s done it really tough in 2022.

She was cancer free in 1998 when they performed this. The Main Event Tour with Farnham and Warlow was a real comeback tour for her after her 1992 cancer bout, when she had considered retiring from live performing. Her second cancer bout was in 2013, and her final Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer diagnosis was in 2017. What a loss, it still guts me :(

John’s year started badly when he lost his best friend and Manager Glenn Wheatley from complications from Covid, he was also our family in Australia. Then Olivia who was so much more than just Grease was gone and now John is fighting to be well again. Add Judith Durham just days away from Olivia and Australia had a really bad year.
I had never heard of this song until my gorgeous adopted baby was singing it in a Grand Final and announced who sang it. She was born with a gift like John’s and she won a lot of money for her age when she won it. John recorded this song but he did it in a duet a couple of time. He and Livvie started out together, she went to England first and he stayed home but she was always back when we needed her. This is The Main Event Concert that toured for 3 months with Anthony Warlow. Thank you.

John Farnham and Olivia Newton John virtually grew up together in the business. They started around the same time, in the same town and both as teenagers. They have been friends ever since

As has been said by many, these two have been friends ever since they both started their careers. Also I believe this was not too long after one of Olivia's fight against her cancer and was in remission so it also shows the emotion of that as well.

I hope it’s not too long before we hear John again, this has been my favorite spotlight for a while. This is just so beautiful, I have duck knobs all over. You left the best till last. Another example of John being able to sing anything. I love this song by them. I am looking forward to him singing AC/DC and Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. Another great performance was when John sang Imagine with Ray Charles at the opening of Crown Casino.

So beautifully sung by them both. I loved watching your eyes light up everytime he hit those higher notes. Even though it's not necessarily your cup of tea. You can't help but appreciate the mastery of his voice. He also has a history in musical theatre and a bit of acting. And this whole tour was a bit of a theatrical event. But there was no acting here. These two had such an incredibly enduring freindship with each other.
    RIP Beautiful Livvy

John became the front man of THE LITTLE RIVER BAND when Glen Shorock the lead singer stepped down . Glen another Aussie singing legend sang a phenomenal LRB original song called COOL CHANGE which is my favourite LRB song and though I love it , Farnsey's version is off the charts the song paints a word picture of calmness and serenity and leaves the listener relaxed and peaceful , Crikey I've just made myself sound all soft and gooey ,very unblokey don't tell me mates

John and Olivia have been friends since the 70s when they did a variety show together. John liked the Main Event tour, three months of concert when he got to kiss her every night for the duration of the tour. Olivia had just gone into remission with her second lot of chemo.

Are you guys going to do a tribute reaction to the UK's very own Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac? As you know, she passed away on Nov 30 at age 79. A few of the big hit songs she sang lead on were: "Songbird", "Say You Love Me", "You Make Loving Fun", "Everywhere" and several others. She was a major contributor to the band both as a songwriter and lead vocalist.

Nice work guys as usual. "I'll let you go first this time" - I think BP1 says that every time! 🤣. Your discussion of your planned Farnsey list and what you have already done highlights how he isn't a one-trick-pony. He covers all genres. So if a "smoochy" love song doesn't float your boat for style of music I can guarantee you will enjoy his cover of "It's a Long Way to the Top" when you do it. I look forward to seeing everything you mentioned you had planned. If not already on that list, I would recommend adding "Amazing Grace" (th-cam.com/video/yTY_BwOu6SU/w-d-xo.html). It's even further from your preferred genre but it is gob-smacking in terms of vocal performance. It starts off excruciatingly slow but stay with it - it builds and builds.

Hard to score. Their performances were top-notch, and duets seem difficult to do well. Farnham is way better than Travolta. The duets from "Grease" were _huge_ singles _with_ Travolta. What might have been with Farnham? 😀
BP2 - Thanksgiving day in Canada is not on the same day as in the USA. AFAIK, Thanksgiving day in Canada is _"the second Monday in October"_ (wikipedia) There's no reason for purely National holidays to be the same. After all Canada was "on Britain's side" against the revolutionaries (😀) that became the USA. Also, AFAIK it's a harvest festival in Canada, and I assume their harvest is earlier than much of the USA's.
    Best Wishes, Chaps. ☮

Cheers G-Man and thanks for correcting me on the Thanksgiving in Canada, I didn't even stop to think it may be on a different day when I read that America and Canada had a Thanksgiving day but of course it makes sense.
And very hard to score the song but as ever we give it a go just for fun

    • @gbulmer
      @gbulmer ปีที่แล้ว

@@BritPopsReact I thought it was unusually hard to score because there are so few 'big' duets recorded (I am not a musical theatre person, but I know there are set-piece duets there). So it was hard for me to think of a standard. The only duet outside musicals (film or theatre) I could think of at the time was Elton John and Kiki Dee "Don't go breaking my Heart" from the '70s!
I since remembered the unusual 21st century duet of Thom Yorke and Björk. However, that is a film soundtrack, so doesn't really count as a duet independent of musicals.
      Best Wishes. ☮
      G-Man-😎
AFAICT, _you_ are in the _majority_ of UK and US folks (who write YT comments) by assuming Canada's Thanksgiving is the same day as the US. I was alerted to one of my assumptions when my Mum and I went on holiday to Toronto, in the late '90s. "Victoria Day" was celebrated while we were there. Apparently it's to celebrate the birthday of their reigning (UK) monarch. However, they fixed it's date at Queen Victoria, on Monday before May 25th.
I sometimes visited US friends at Thanksgiving. When Americans heard my 'clearly foreign' accent, they sometimes asked "does your country celebrate Thanksgiving on the same day?"🤔 Sadly, I was sometimes a bit of a d!ck 😞, (I'm older, and I hope wiser. now)
I did *not* say: our Harvest Festivals happen at different dates to the USA because our climate is different. Also, there is no government-defined holiday, so different parts of the UK celebrate on different dates within different local traditions.
