Ron will show you how to use the new line of IDEAL SureTrace Circuit Tracers. You can use them to find breakers in panels and trace wiring in walls, floors, ceilings and throughout the building. They work great when you really need to fing a cable.

Ideal should of taken a page out of the Greenlee CS-8000 book. The CS-8000 will scan the whole panel seeking for the correct circuit & it will give an audio indication as to all the potential breakers however it will stop giving an audio tone over the breakers with the weaker signals until only the correct breaker is giving an audiable tone. This saves from having to turn off a breaker to verify it's the correct circuit, this is something very important in certain buildings that don't allow the denergizing of circuits. I actually own both the Ideal TR-958/RC-958 & Greenlee CS-8000 units, I like them both & each have their merits but the Greenlee feature I mentioned is what makes it my go to unit of the two. Ideal, fix this & I'll buy your updated model then put the other units up for sale since the potential new design unit would be a combinations of the best of both worlds.
MrNightro Hey thanks for the feedback! I will pass it along. I asked one of the engineers and they say they looked at the Greenlee unit while making our tracer. Most of not thought they wanted to do the same. I'll take the feedback always good. Thanks for watching. Ron
I usually pay my contractor around USD 1600 to trace and verify one (1) DB. I can do this alone now or with one helper. It is on my wishlist and I'm going to get it..
Yyyyyoyy
The electrician in a hospital i was working in had one of these today.. this thing worked so well its crazy. curious enough i decided to look into getting one today, until i found out its going for 2000$ =/
Nice. Hey Ron, is the circuit breaker finder accurate. I Ben getting good and bad reviews on it. I'm interested in getting one. But not sure. I love these testers but way to much for me at least right now.
Ron, The majority of instances that I need the tracer for is to find a broken wire, or joint and typically it is a non metallic sheathed cable in a residence. It's the old "why did this outlet loose power"? Which means I will be looking for the path of the cable within the walls and ceilings of the house. It also means that I will be attempting to locate a cable that is now an open circuit. I viewed the video and understand that the signal on the cable is cancelling out, but what else is there to do. I am on one end of the cable and I need to find the path in order to see where the open occurred.
Tom you should be able to plug the transmitter into the open outlet and the trace the wires using the receiver. Here is the video I have up.

The tracer should do a good job finding the open. Ron
one lead goes on the accessible end the other to a ground wire somewhere.
Very cool tool
Yes we sell a lot of them. Ron
@@RonKipperDatacomm1 been building up my electrical tools. Picked up that field sense t6-600. Probably pick this up aswell. Ron do you have a Instagram?
@@lowvoltagedude7837 sorry no Instagram have fun Ron
I used mine to trace the buried wire to my well pump
Cool glad you were able to trace the line have fun Ron
An informative video Ron but maybe speak a little slower in the future, some parts did feel like you were speed reading a script. Not a criticsm, just an observation . Thanks for posting, the product looks like it does an excellent job.
Do these need calibration? The old transmitter models state that if the batteries are removed then the calibration is void??
No they do not need to be calibrated not sure were you saw that. Ron
Is there an audible? Or just numbers? I like the product but ive used a toner for 10 years and its audible
Ron, Thanks for the detailed explanation. You are awesome. Quick question.
1) Instead of connecting the neutral wire in another circuit, can i connect the other wire to a ground like WATER PIPE , will this work?
2) If i want to trace the neutral wire in a circuit, how do i use this tool.
3) can this be used to trace wire that is inside the brick or concrete?.
Your answers will be helpful to me and others as well. I have TR 958 AND RC 954. MODEL
Hello
Not sure if the water pipe will work in many cases today it is plastic somewhere and may not be connected to the panel.
It will trace any type of cable just need to hook the leads to the ends of the neutral. Keep in mind in order to trace a signal neutral wire you need to separate it from all the other neutrals in the panel.
Yes it can detect through brick walls
Hope that helps
Ron
@@RonKipperDatacomm1 You are asking me to disconnect neutral wire from other neutral wire in the panel, so that means this tool cant be used to detect the neural wire of a circuit, like we detect hot wire of a circuit.
whicth website to buy?
Hey Tipster TV Amazon has them as well as Home Depot online. Use it well. Ron
Hello Ron. Can the Ideal 61-959 trace a circuit in any type of conduit (metallic/non-metallic)?? Also, what is the recommended maximum range in distance for this tracer? My department did have one of the Greenlee CS-8000's but it went missing. We are going to invest in another tracer and I am debating on which one to purchase.
Rammer Bamer Hello
The signal is attenuated by the metal in a metal conduit so while
you ‘can’ detect it, it is very weak and only extends out about 2 feet from the
center of the conduit if the signal is on the hot and neutral. I do not
recommend this. You can in some instances place the leads on the conduit
itself, but the signal will go everywhere. If you have multiple conduits but
the one you want to trace is in a different direction then the rest, this
approach may work. Just ignore the extraneous signals.
I have heard reports of the signal reaching out to over 4000 feet
away, but again, that is with a perfect application, closed loop, energized and
carrying current. If you have been tracing, you know what makes a strong signal
and also a weak signal. You will likely love the sensitivity of our unit once
you become comfortable with the receivers orientation requirements.Probably best to let you see the tracer and play with it before you buy. Can you let me know how to contact you and where you are? I will get a local sales person to give you a call. My email is ron.kipper@idealindustries.comThanks Ron
I would really like to see a video showing how they work locating a 480 v 3 phase circuit. In my plant the circuit comes from conduit in the concrete floor they are labeled but at the other end ( in the panel room ) nothing is labeled.
my e-mail is butterbean121170@yahoo.com Thanks
Michael I have passed your info along to the product people. I will add it to the list of videos we have planned for the tracer. I'm pretty confident it will work well for your application. Thanks Ron
We have one, no one likes it, does a lot of things, nothing well
Hi James if you like I can have someone call you about the tracer and see if we can help you out. Send me your info Ron at ron.kipper@idealindustries.com
