Never forget Vlad III and his bravery. I am Romanian and I`ll consider him a national model for heroism. Even today the name Vlad is still very popular in Romania.
You left out the tale of Vlad's escape from Poenari Castle. Thought the castle was completely surrounded, a clan of Vlad's recently landed nobility, known as the seven Brothers Dobrin, managed to clear a section of the enemy camp, and sneak Vlad out through a secret passage beneath the castle. They even shoed their horses backwards, to make it more difficult for the Turks to track. From high on a mountainside, Vlad granted the Dobrins all the land, as far as the eye could see, which amounted to the single largest land grant in Romanian history.

Your best series so far, the quality is unbelievable! Part 1 made me remember to subscribe, Part 2 made me become a Patron. Also, while I usually don't like American narrators for these historical documentaries (I say this as an American), this one is amazing! Engaging and dramatic, his storytelling skills are 11/10 and definitely added to the immersion.
Oh boy I've been waiting for this one. I subscribed to this channel from the 1st part of this. Love the use of maps on this channel because it really gives you a good visual representation of what's going on.
Way better than Game of Thrones. A Netflix series about his life is something i would pay to see.

Vlad said he would have pardoned the thief (though he had no authority to do so), since the thief had approached Vlad respectfully upon being discovered, and requested asylum. Before Vlad could make his decision, however, the guards burst onto his estate, and demanded Vlad hand the thief over. As much as Vlad hated thieves, it seems he hated being ordered around by his lessers even more. In the end, one guard lost his head, while the other ran away screaming.
That's the thing, Vlad wasn't really a prisoner in Hungary, he was related to the King himself and was showed full honors while he stayed there. He was attending the Hungarian Council, even fought in a military campaign, leading the Royal troops against the turks in Albania and Bosnia.He basically waited the right time to go back. He didn't charge Wallachia sooner because the country was allready ruled by his younger brother and Vlad respected that.He only moved after brother was dead and there are some rumours that the so called bodyguards left by his cousin actually killed him at order. Nobody was really ready for the storm Vlad was about to bring.He was allready amassing troupes to start the offensive again. The ottomans attacked first and say that Vlad was wining the battle and he stopped at a hill to watch his men slauthering the ottomans, at which point he was confused to be a turkis soldier and killed from behind by his own men. The men close to him at that point was the so called bodyguards of his cousin. Its complicated.

Much cooler than the history class on romanian medieval period that I took in school. Was always under the impression that the tales of these battles were greatly exagerated, without supporting data one way or another. And then when you go into details, the facts portray a very interesting story.
As for his arrest, I speculate that it was a ruse by Hunyadi. In the end, it appears to me that Hunyadi, Vlad Tepes and Stefan the Great had an agreement, finally. Still, they failed to execute properly, they failed to anticipate the reaction of the Wallachian nobility. They were too cocky after so many years of defying the Turks.

It wasn't until dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu whitewashed Vlad and made him a national hero, idolizing him. I am Albanian, and we see Vlad as savage, cruel ruler; nothing more. Skanderbeg was a great hero.

I was always told that he died of natural causes on a remote island not far from the capital. It was said that he placed a pot of gold out in the open and that he declared that the pot will never be touched whilst he was alive. The pot remained untouched until his death.
