Schliz and Miller were very popular with Budweiser long necks being the best. What made American ales drinkable was burying them in ice to make drinkable. Colt 45 was a malt liquor I drank occasionally with my Dad driving home after work. I'm glad Rolling Rock, who came out with the first pony (small) bottles is still around. Check out the need for "church keys" before pop tops became common.

Back in the very early 70's my father would buy a different brand of beer every week until he found one that my brother and myself would not drink. That brand was Schlitz, I'll never forget it, we were sitting at the kitchen table and my brother grabbed two beer's from the fridge and a church key from the junk drawer and said look's like were going to try Schlitz this week. Well, rite after the first mouthful we dumped both can's in the sink, I have never tasted beer like that in my life, in fact it felt like I was drinking milk, there was no carbonation at all. Long story short, that was the beer our father started to buy every week.

I don't drink beer anymore but when I did, the first beer I ever drank was Schlitz. I started drinking beer when I was about six years old. My dad always had the fridge loaded with quart bottles of Schlitz. I'm talking about the early 60's. When they changed the recipe & Schlitz became Shitz my dad switched to Pabst Blue Ribbon ever since!!! Pabst was always a great tasting beer & on tap I couldn't stop drinking it!!! I tried other beers also. I tried German beers also like Hacker Schorr, Beck's,&:St. Pauli Girl!!! They were very good tasting beers but they had a bitter aftertaste because of too much hops!!! The worst tasting American beer,I thought was Blatz. It was too malty & tasted like carbonated plum juice. Most American beers taste OK but some are a little flat!!!
