i see this thread is quite old but looking for info on tearing down the steering gear box on the same tractor as you.....specifically removing the side plates in order to remove the steering sector gears not finding much info on this......
I have a ford 2000 with the exact same system … works great turning left but when turning right the steering seems to bind …. However if I throttle up the tractor rpm’s then it will not bind … any ideas why that might be the case ?
I have no leaks steering works great but when I steer left the right tire cuts too sharp. when I steer right the left tire cuts too sharp is there a way to adjust the flow of fluild
David sorry for the delayed response I will be doing a full service soon as well as checking the tractor over. I will look for any kinds of adjustments and try to make a quick video explaining what I found.
The difference between steering angles/cut is called Ackerman Angle ( I think) .. Usually vehicles are designed to turn the inner wheel a bit more than the outer since the inner wheel is making a somewhat smaller radius turn than the outer.. In the tractor, the steering arms are closer together at the steering gear/box than at the tie rod ends out by the wheels which should really be exaggerating the inner wheel turning.. If you are getting excessive turning of the outer wheel something might be bent?? Or the kingpins are badly worn? Do you see Negative caster from a bent back axle?? Excessive negative camber that swings to positive in a tight turn on that outside wheel due to those loose king pins?? If the axle is not bent back or kingpins worn, can you try a little Toe out?? That would then increase the amount of cut to the inner tire and reduce it a little on the outer.. but not much or you will be wandering all over when you drive straight...

Harold Fredd no sir the repair was done four years ago but any Ford newholland dealer should be able to pull it up. If I’m not mistaken it was power steering.

Do you have part numbers for the cylinder ram seals and what type of oil did you use?

I need a new supply line. Do you know the part number to that?
I will look and see if it has a part number tag on it. If not you will need to contact the ford, NH dealership for a part breakdown.
I wish someone could create a video on ADDING powersteering to a 1966 model... anyone found anything?
