      Wow!! That’s great! I totally agree. I picked up a pair of used boots early on and don’t regret it one bit! A little bit of cleaning and conditioning sure goes a long way, and before you know it they’ll be molded to your feet 😊😁

    I just bought my first pair of redwings. I’m going to do exactly what you did, including waiting 6mo before I clean and condition. Hopefully I’ll get the same results, thanks for the lesson! :)

    • @DenimDarlin

      Hi! CONGRATULATIONS on your first pair!! Such a great model to start with. Are you loving them, so far?? I am excited for your journey!

      I got the 8111’s. The right boot is comfortable, but the left one has an issue causing a bit of foot pain. The heel of the foot bed is off center, and I’ve been using sand paper to try and fix it. Love the boots otherwise, and I’m gonna press on, and hopefully that issue works itself out …

    • @DenimDarlin
      @DenimDarlin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why don’t you reach out to Red Wing and exchange them instead? I think it would be better that you got a functioning pair instead of trying to fix this one. Reach out to them within the return window. I’m sure they’d be happy to help! It’s such an amazing pair of boots and I would hate for you to miss out on a truly enjoyable experience.

    • @silvermountainman2562

      @@DenimDarlin I bought them on EBay for $300, a good price I think. Can’t return those, so I’ve been trying to fix them myself. I didn’t like the results I was getting from the sandpaper, but wore them to work today anyway. We have a truck mechanic, and I borrowed a very large punch and hammer, and “punched the crap” out of the leather footbed that was giving me trouble. It worked! My 8111’s are now perfect … :)

    Great Video. Only thing I use Red Wing Leather Cream or SAPHIR Greasy Leather Cream For Oil Tanned Boots. Does not darken the leather. The Oil Really absorbs into the weather better but that Causes Darkening of the Leather.

    Fantastic video as always! I don't have any boots with this type of leather. Would saddle soap be OK to use on the rough and tough?

    • @DenimDarlin
      @DenimDarlin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thank you very much!! I think it will be okay, but will definitely remove more oils than a gentler cleaner, so you would just have to condition them more after the wash so the leather doesn’t dry out too much.

  • @michaeltesterman2109
    @michaeltesterman2109 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I prefer to use neatsfoot oil on my Copper rough and tough. It requires more frequant applications, but it doesn't darken the leather like mink oil. If those boots were Briar Oil Slick leather, I would absolutele use the mink oil.

    • @DenimDarlin

      Hi! I love that you took the time to tell me :) Thank you. I agree with you. I personally love using a product which won’t darken my Silversmith boots. So far, the leather cream has worked for me. I have been using different conditioners for educational purposes in my boot cleaning videos. The Copper Rough & Tough Blacksmiths did end up lightening up, after several days. I will show them in a video so that you can see. Thank you again for your feedback.

    The leather is littler after few days ? Or still dark ? Also the leather is softer after the mink oil ? Thanks

    I've just bought a pair of these boots. I have some renapur leather conditioner, would this be OK to use?

    • @DenimDarlin
      @DenimDarlin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! It is okay to use it on your boots. It will darken the leather a bit and will add a waxy coating which will help repel water. After applying it on your boots, I suggest giving them a quick brush to remove the excess.

    • @DenimDarlin
      @DenimDarlin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re wrong. Also, if you look on the RW website they show you which conditioners they recommend for their boots. Mink or leather boot are both okay on the copper. I have those boots and know what they look like. They are fine.

      @@DenimDarlin Mink Oil will always darken leather, the leather conditioner cream with Neats foot oil is the only Redwing product that doesn't darken the leather, in their own words not mine.

      @DenimDarlin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your argument is that the boots are ruined. I am letting you know they are not. Take care.
