I bought this machine in 2011, still have it and love it! I did a lot of research on this machine before I bought it. It is a real work horse. I practiced with many of the decorative stitches on my own. They have come in handy on quilts and other projects I have done.
I have this machine, never regretted buying it. Make loose covers etc. Needle raises high enough to get really thick fabric through. A good tough workhorse.
I have had my machine for nearly 20 years. I use it nearly everyday. It is very sturdy, easy to use, and has excellent stitch quality. A professional service every 2 years will keep this machine going for a long time.
This is a very good demo on this machine. I would like to know if anyone else has had problems with the dual foot coming back down while sewing a regular stitch... pops down as though it was ready to engage.. it hurts my hand if it's behind. My machine is probably 8 years old, looks just like this one, though, and in every other respect, I love it!
i just bought this wonderful machine and i love her! and thank you for this review because it really helped me decide to buy it after i test drove her at my sewing machine store.
Thanks! Very informative indeed. I need a machine with a walking foot and would like one of the features the 6600 has. It safed me a lot of time at my local store. Now I can go straight forward to the check out the 6600. Thanks again! (I liked your fingers. Women pay attention here.)
Hi I have this machine I've had it for probably 10 years love it. I was cleaning it and the upper tension came apart End I don't think I put it back together right Can you show me or send me The right way to put that upper attention together ?
I love my Janome 6600. i think its one of the best machines on the market. However saying that my thread has been shedding at the needle and I can't find out what is causing it. I don't really want to shut down my sewing to send it to the repair center but unfortunately if I can't figure this out, it will be going in.
I haven't been doing much sewing for over a year but am getting back to it. I want to know how the needle can be set at different positions. I feel certain I have done that in the past but I don't know how. Please respond with the solution.
Can't get straight stitches. I followed all instructions on tension, threading, new needle, etc. BeforeI take to repair man, does anyone have any other useful info that i might try? TY!
I did that Judy the day I went to buy it. The only thing I was shown was how to thread it etc and what it did Nothing on the fancy stitches. Mind you the lady was busy in the shop as well, and I was trying to make my mind up between the Janome and the another make. Sorry this is so long winded getting to you I have only just seen your post.
I'm a bit confused. Do you actually own this machine, or still considering buying it? Also, there should be several Janome dealers around your area, and if you didn't get first rate service, you should go to another dealer. Let me know.
go back if they don't happily help you tell them you'll complain to the better business bureau. I'm disabled and my dealer (Able Sewing in Raynham, MA, wrote on the sales slip that if I needed any assistance with anything regarding the machine they would come to the house. The machine being so heavy, I thought this was so nice of them. They also took the time to demonstrate the entire machine. They OWE you support.
I'm interested in purchasing this machine and have found a place, but there is one thing I have to yet to find information on. I want to know how TOUGH this machine is. I don't mean can I go Incredible Hulk on it and drop it! I mean, can I sew through any kind of fabric? Can I do jean hems and sew through the flat-fell side seams? Is it tough enough to handle leatherettes and can I use sew-through boning on this machine or only boning with an encasement? And lastly, is it durable? I look forward to your reply as I find EVERYTHING about this machine to be just to my liking.
I purchased this machine 2 years ago it is TERRIFIC!!!! A real work horse . I also have the Janome Gem Gold and the Janome 712T. I am picking up a Janome DQC 3160 to take to Retreats and classes on Friday. Janome is very sturdy and very reliable. I love my 6600.If you are in Maine Fabric Garden is the place to purchase your machines. Very professional and vey knowledgeable. I have to travel 4 hours but is well worth the trip. Best wishes in you Machine purchase.
Sue McIver Thank you. I'm happy to hear good feedback before investing. I plan on trying one before purchasing, but my biggest concern is could I make a pair of jeans with it? Have you ever tried? Is it tough enough to handle 2-6 layers of denim? (6 when you sew the rolled hems at the bottom?)
I own this machine. If I'd realized there was nothing removable under throat for sewing tight circles, i never would have bought it. My old machine, the accessory box came off making gibing access to slip a circle onto the throat plate and easily sew without a struggle. My old machine cost $3000 25 years ago. I ASSumed that for $2600 and being state of art this feature would be a given. So very dissapointing

Thank you for such a comprehensive review of the machine!
This was very helpful and I'm sure I'll refer back to it more than once. Much easier than flipping around in the manual!
Did you also know that to pull the bobbin thread up you can also just push the needle up and down button twice?
That is so useful!!!

Can you sew canvas projects with it? I want to use it to sew a Bimini for my boat, but not sure if this unit is strong enough.
Is the dual feed also the walking foot ?
Yes
This is excellent. Thank you

Por favor como podría en contra el libro de instrucciones que lo he perdido del modelo 6600 janome
I really need a demo on the stitches . I know the basics, but can anyone tell me where I can go to actually see the patterns in motion. I live in WA,
Did you try by actually going to a Janome dealer? They will completely demonstrate and let you try the machine for yourself.
