Nice method, I have been running vinyl for quite a while and I learned something. I have been back blading on a chop saw for years but never thought to stack them like that. I always say check your ego at the door on a jobsite, anybody can learn a simple tip or trick from anybody else at any time. That means the most experienced guy on a crew could pick up something useful from the least experienced, doesn't happen often but it does happen. The most important thing I have learned from all the jobsites that I have been on is that there is no room for egos or know it alls on a jobsite, also applies to life in general. One tip I have for you that you might find useful is to use a battery powered angle grinder to make your rips and angled cuts. That way you are only pulling out 1 tool instead of 2, and it actually does the cut faster, saves a ton of time. I carry one in my bags I don't even carry snips anymore and almost never pull out my utility knife, look for the smallest lightest one you can find, you don't need power to cut vinyl and one metal disc will last for weeks.
Helll yea you're so right. Mostly all agrees here just one disagree. I have a new guy that takes to this stuff so well, Like when I gatta think about something, just a small uncommon detail I'll look at him for confirmation I'm not about to cut the wrong side off lmao. But as for the grinders. My rule is we don't use grinders all day unless its colder out and ther vinyl cracks we use Snips for finishers. Chop saw for your staggers and in between windows and walls. Knife underneath and above windows. And grinders for anything that is at an angle going through the center rib. To each his own though! Snipping sucks if you have to do too much of it

Brings back memories of my first real job right out of high school. Loved every minute of it but ended up quitting after having no work for 3 weeks. Moved on to other things. Would go back in a minute.

It's nice to see a pro uses Ryobi tools, they are well underrated for their prices. Be brand loyal all you want, it will only hurt your pocket book in the end.
Yea I use a lot of their tools but this saw I bought for strictly siding and soffit. Every blade that's ever been in this saw has been backwards lol I have a nice dewault slider for trim, a few circular saws randomized and all my battery operated tools are Milwaukee. My one employee has the ryobi set tho and they're definitely lasting very well
I'm a pro and use Ryobi tools. Like he said not for crown or anything best to get. Good dewalt chop sw for that but everything else pretty much rock the ryobi

Actually vinyl siding is a good product when installed properly. I've personally installed vinyl siding and cedar impressions on million dollar home on the water in New England. The coil/trim work is the key to a good vinyl job. It holds up well when maintained and very easy to repair.
I ammm with you. I like vinyl. its been on my moms house for almost 20 years now and power washes like brand new
I feel a siding system that fully relies on underlayment and isnt water proof isnt the best option. It works tho
The haters on here probably played some construction game on the computer and now they think they rule the world. SHUT UP and try to do this yourself! Maybe you'll realize he's worked hard all his life for what he's got and it's valuable to him! He does excellent work and I really appreciate that because not many people care about the customer anymore, it's just all about putting money in their own pockets, no matter who they rip off. I'm a flooring installer and do everything I can, myself, to save money... But I would hire this guy in a heartbeat! And I've only watched 5 of his videos!!

I like using the nail head for a nailing slot good idea! When you get older you won’t be working on the ground like a mole.
Normally I would put caulk in my lock underneath the window both pieces where there's no nail flange
Even better, cut off a nail flange and put it on backwards. That was the cut off part under the window pushes out against the window flange 👍
Thanks for the useful installation tips and pointers. The filler above the window idea definitely improves the plane as the depth is no longer supported by the normal bottom channel on the piece. And, it is a readily available filler piece.

You have to turn the blade backwards! I've tried all kinds of blades and nothing has chipped unless you go too fast when its cold but even that was minor

Absolutely, my pouch has everything I need and it weighs a lot, but I don't have to go looking for anything, it's all within arms reach! That's why I have suspenders on my belt!

Im siding my house for the first time. This guy is fast. Even when he gets jammed up you can tell its not his first rodeo. Probably intimidating for these guys to work for bc he expects them to be fast like him. I get it. Time is $.

Oh stop it idk what you're a boss for but it's not exterior remodeling. Siding soffit and fascia have a lot of play in it. You have an inch in the corner post and nearly an inch in the j channel therefore close enough is good. As long as the edges are inside of it. You want space anyway for expansion and contraction. Siding isn't measured by the 16th. I ALMOST NEVER have heard anybody say a siding number with an 8th either. Quarters are used on vinyl. Professionals understand this and don't waste useless time on unimportant things. Thanks for your comment though

@@mikesacco8457 that's good. I do one year inspections on every project and of course give a good workmanship warranty. Also I'm the type of the dude that would fix some shit 10 years down the line coz I would wanna know why it failed at a bare minimum.

I find that using a hook blade is a lot more controllable. Just tilt the knife a little to the side and sliced through like butter. No bending involved

I would like to have seen you mention to watch where your ribs are lining up in relation to the last wall completed. Nothing worse than finishing a wall and you think it looks perfect until you realize you're an 1/8 out or worse (surprising how quickly this can happen) and it's tearing everything right back off and starting again.

Where a live we install all kind of siding on a 1x 3 fur it need air circulation. and even so for inside dry wall .
that's a good idea but the windows and doors would need to be able to handle the extra width so you have to think about that..

You would accept 2 guys taking 20 mins together to do that beautiful, simple, square wall? If that took me more than 15 mins alone I would be ashamed. A wall that true, you can get every piece cut before you start installing, and have them all from the ground to the wall in under 5 minutes. Longest part is taking numbers and planning.

My former employer decided it would be cheaper to sub out a house. Guy supplied his own nails, claimed they were galvanized but the rust stains said otherwise.
The last peice you cut it 5 1/2 at 122 and had to cut to 115 which wouldn't be 5 1/2 any more at 115 that's why it was skinny on the right

the siding starter should be install by mesuring each house wall end to underneath the soffite
true then you won't end with a silly looking tapered piece at the top loool,
not always true. you cant have one run be 3 inches out of level if the others are level. it would look like a dr suess house. sometimes you have to split difference but it actually looks better to have the taper than have it way out of level

You have to cheat it that 3 inch taper is to much could've dropped f channel down little with siding little out of level wouldn't b as noticeable
We put aluminum overhead window drip flashing and reverse drip below the window to kick out rain in front of the siding. Is this not code where you live?

I don’t know if his nails are too short or he’s missing every stud but it seems to me those nails go in a little too easily into each stud and it doesn’t seem like he’s hitting hard at all
We fanfolded over there old cedar siding that's 100 years old. So it's basically all studs

He said he was hitting the studs only at the beginning of the video when he was doing the starting run @ 5:25. I try to put the joints of the sheathing at the studs if possible. He did too under window

It's old wood siding behind it. We took down the aluminum and put fan fold over the base siding that's nearly 100 yrs old. Its all solid. Every nail it in there good enough for me to honor my warranty
Chop saw worksbut a siding table is way faster of course its alot more money as well but can cut short pieces without pulling a tape and with a carbide blade or a plywood blade can cut forward and backwards without chipping siding also can make acutrable out of wood ft long for about 20 dollars and an hour of your time

Im wondering what is typically done at the top where the sidingt, the corner and soffit meet? I am doing a shed and plan on doing the vinyl first, then soffit because I like the look of where the soffit trim meets the siding, as opposed to the siding hiding the edge of soffit. Im confused about the corner piece, does it get cut lower so the soffit trim continues on top? Thanks for your help

Those nails aren't going into "solid" wood, that's why they get ripped off in storms and then it's blamed as storm damage..
Believe me ain't going nowhere bud. There is solid cedar behind that and the nails are hitting more meat than it sounds like. I would put my name on that job 10 times over. I would've done something different if I felt uncertain because I would never blame storm damage over my workmanship.

Personally I'm just not a big fan of siding but it seems to be what most people go for as it's cheap and quick. Compared to building a house with stone and brick which costs lots and time etc..

Pro tip for those looking to hire a tradesman; look at the truck he drives. If it's nice and somewhat new, hire him.
Guys like Zack make good money because they don't screw around. They drive nice trucks because they can afford them, because they work at a good pace and have lots of customers.

That is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. I know guys that had to restart their business for various reasons. I was taught the opposite to not judge anyone by their vehicle. Nice trucks don't do quality work. Skilled honest people do. I know contractors that have great vehicles and are the worst in my area. So in closing what you said is complete bullshit. He looks like he is trying to prove something to someone, maybe the guys that are late but when you out siding up by yourself that fast you will make moatakes.

Regular wood blade backwards yes. I think more teeth the better. But every blade I've ever put in backwards works

Yes he would, trying to move to quickly and prove a 20min point has his mind running in a million directions. 20 min turned into 30+ min due to minor error because of showing off for the camera and saying what he ecspects of his guys yet he can't complete the task in 20min but wants someone less experienced than him to meet a 20min mark. Typical boss get it done quick so I make money while I pay you 10 bucks an hour to hang.

Were the little holes you made with the nail head ment to clip to the j? I've only used that crimp trick when a sill lock is installed inside of the j... I don't think it's going anywhere but couldn't you have just used your giant tube of subfloor glue to stick it?

@@NWIVeteranConstruction hmmm I feel like the nailing flange of the piece below the window would have covered it and the notch wouldn't have been able to lock anyway especially because the t-lock is right there which sticks out a lot farther than sill lock. Anyway you can make an easy jig with some plywood and 2x4s that allows you to use a circular saw thus being much more efficient at multi cutting and you won't have to pray on your knees every time you cut. If you have a metal break you can lock your long notches in it for just a sec for fast straight cuts.
