    In this video, we show you how our Wickett & Craig Veg Tan Officer FT Boot is made! Stick around for the final product! All Nicks Boots are made here in Spokane, WA from the finest parts and materials. We are USA-owned and operated, valuing the livelihoods of our workers as well as the quality of our boots. If you're looking for the toughest work boots on the market, you've finally come to the right place.
    If you're interested in how our boots are serviced, check out other content on our TH-cam channel! While most boots are meant to be thrown away after a few months, Nicks are built to last. When your boots start to need some servicing, you can send them in to have them resoled or completely rebuilt! Nicks Handmade Boots are serviceable and last years longer than a mass-produced boot. Since 1964, Nicks has been making the highest quality boots on the market, right here in Spokane Washington. If you're tired of your old work boots wearing out, upgrade to Nicks and enjoy the most comfortable boots on the market.

    Are you confused watching these videos? Me, too. At least, I was confused until I watched most of them 2-5 times.
    The biggest mystery is when does the last come out of the boot? Just after the 9:00 mark, they remove the (3) big nails holding the insole to the last.
    Once they separate the last from the actual boot, every nail after that point becomes a permanent part of the boot.
    The actual last is moved at a later step.

    My biggest problem with getting good boots resoled is the sanding. Luckily, I have a somewhat local guy that listens to what the customer wants. He'll just trim the sole flush with a knife if you ask. Love that little old man.

    • @mikeford963
      @mikeford963 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why is that an issue? Done correctly, the sander doesn't touch the upper at all.

    • @mikeford963
      @mikeford963 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, depending on the sole, you may not be able to cut it easily with a knife. Those Vibram lug soles are HARD!!!

    • @mikeford963
      @mikeford963 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And btw I'm asking out curiosity. I don't mean to come off like an ass.

    • @soggycracker5934
      @soggycracker5934 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mikeford963 The issue is that a heavy hand with the sander can remove welt material and you can't just add that back. Once it's too thin it has to be replaced. And replacing the welt is more expensive than the sole. Usually about twice the price. Hard is pretty relative. I've watched him do my boots. They are tough, but a good knife still goes right through it.

    • @mikeford963
      @mikeford963 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@soggycracker5934 I getcha. I think it largely depends on the boots construction. That's the only thing the kinda disappoints me about Nicks Boots is the lack of an isolated welt. I can understand the reason they build their boots the way they do, but having a separate welt piece can add some longevity to the uppers of the boots.

@@AMogus-jr6qk i learned in OK from people who learned from J Griffith. You not only wet the leather to aid in fitting to the last you also wet to take the stretch out of the leather so when they are broken in they dont get sloppy. You do it on shoes and boots.

      @Baldspot just because they mass produce hand made boots doesn't mean they are American gods, they are taking a inappropriate short cut. Why do you feel the need to answer a question i posed to Nicks? Facts are facts if you dont wet the leather before you last the boot and take the stretch out of the leather they will get sloppy once broken in. I would never mass produce boots, i dont need to or want to.

    If you used a water base glue instead of that formaldehyde junk, there's a lot more people in the world who are allergic to formaldehyde glue that would purchase your boots. Me being one of them.

      I have never heard of people who are allergic to formaldehyde. I guarantee Nicks doesn't miss your money enough to swap their cement for an untested product. Them swapping their glue would only negatively affect sales.
