Congrats to you Meg!! My top tip for saving money creating journals would be to watch several styles of journal makers and try out their “style” before buying everything you see in the thrift store or online. I watched many junk journal makers when I started out thinking I needed all the supplies they used only to soon realize I didn’t even enjoy creating in that style myself if that makes sense! Example you may love watching someone with a boho or shabby chic style but may not enjoy creating that way yourself, or maybe you love watching someone create grungy vintage or baby journals but just don’t enjoy creating those yourself.. so buy enough supplies for one project (like maybe a ready made kit from an Etsy seller) and try it out before going down the path of grabbing everything you see! And remember we don’t have to have everything we see!! 😅❤
🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ I get my friends and family to keep an eye open for any paper treasures they come across. I reuse everything I can find. Congratulations on the 5K subscribers!
Congratulations, Meg, on nearing the 5K milestone! I am a subscriber from Texas, and my money-saving tip would be to contact area churches and ask for old curriculum, posters, bulletins, etc., that might otherwise be thrown away. They often contain cute clip art, pretty words, scriptures, etc., and most churches are more than happy to avoid adding to the landfills. Meg, your “Whimsy” journal is absolutely adorable!! 😍 How fun that your middle school was painted in such happy colors!
I am a subscriber of your channel and I always look forward to your videos. My money saving tip for getting supplies has been from getting my crafty friends into collecting and making journals too. We share overflow of items we find and purchase! I have so many sheet fabrics, wallpapers, vintage cards, papers...the list goes on and on! So very blessed by my crafty friends!
I am a new subbie after seeing a friend of mine (Darcy) join the "Ready, Set, Stash!" challenge. I have binged your playlist for 2 days & still not finished LOL! What a WONDERFUL inspiration it is. I've always been a thrifter, & grab bags are my weakness...My money saving tip is go on a "no buy" period & use what you have. I started mine late Sept. & as I sort thru all of my goodies, I'm finding new & used things still in their packages. Sad right? I'm hoping your stash challenge will continue. What a beautiful journal flip through. Congrats on your channel growth. Sending love & light to everyone from Texas~
I am a subscriber and my money saving tip is this: tell everyone you know that you junk journal and what kinds of things you look for. Whenever someone gets around to cleaning out their house, I get SOOOOO many donations of items I can use. LOL
Hi there! Congratulations on reaching 5k!!!! 🎉 🎉I have several money saving tips: one is to swap junk journal supplies and scraps with friends who are crarters or junk journalers if they decide they need a purge 😂, Facebook market sometimes will have free “stuff” and garage sales sell books for super cheap. Yay! Good luck to everyone! I love Meg’s journals!
I am a subscriber and long time junk journaler. My favorite money saving tip is to purchase materials, especially sewing notion items, at the flea market and thrift store. I rarely biy anything new at Hobby Lobby or other craft stores. Thank you for all you do and CONGRATS! 🎉🎉
I am a subscriber. I found your channel a week ago and have been watching your past videos. I love the colors you used in this journal! My first child's( who is now almost 39)nursery was in those colors. I am new to junk journaling and have told family and friends what I'm looking for. I have already received some vintage catalogs and papers. I have also found things at thrift stores. The hunt is part of the fun!
I am a subscriber!!! I just love watching your videos, they always make me smile. To save money on Junk Journal supplies I shop church sales where there always seem to be stationary type finds that most people overlook. I also shop thrift stores and save lots of junk mail.
I have been a subscriber for a while. One of my favorites to watch. A money saving tip is to save all tags from clothing or other items you purchase and repurpose them for new journals. Congratulations on achieving almost 5,000!
Ooh, Meg, this journal is so adorable! 😍 Congratulations on reaching so many subscribers! Yes, I'm a subscriber, and my best money-saving tip is an obvious one, but one that I need to remind myself of often: use what you have!
I love using an art thrift store near me. Snippet rolls use so many scraps as well. Your journals are so nice and I love learning about fabric from you.
I just recently subscribed & I'm so glad I did! My money saving tip is to ask your quilting friend for her unusable scraps. They are perfect for making tabs, closures, and snippets. Congrats on 5k!
I tell others at my craft group about your channel. I also let people know on Facebook. There are a quite a few that know about your channel! You’re famous😀❤️
I am a subscriber and lover of all th8ngs vintage and retro. Tip...I use my quilt fabrics with grocery bag paper inside for my fabric junk journal covers. Great for the stiffness, support, and it is nice and pliable. Congratulations on the 5000!!
Congratulations! So kind of you to give away this beautiful journal. My money saving tip is check with your local library. My library has a free area with books and magazines. I have found some great junk journaling items.
Hello! I am a subscriber to your marvelous channel! Good luck on hitting 5K! My money saving tip is to get magazines and books thru the library discard box. You can get some cool stuff for free!
I’m a subscriber and LOVE your videos and style! For cost savings, my favorite spot to shop are craft reuse stores and thrift stores- I love digging thru piles for treasures! Hugs to you Meg! 💜
I would love to win Whimsy!!! She is beautiful..yes I am a subscriber and love your channel..congrats on hitting 5k subscribers...my money saving tip is to think outside the box and use what you have...
What a beautiful journal and fabulous giveaway! Congrats on nearing the 5k mark. Very well deserved! I am a subscriber and have been for about 1 year. My tip is to shop the children’s section at the thrift stores to find outfits that can be disassembled and the fabric used for snippets and fabric flips. I have found some beautiful appliqués, buttons and special lace to use as embellishments from the clothing. Thanks for the opportunity to win this journal! Crafty hugs 🤗 teri
Congrats on getting closer and closer Meg. My money saving tip is to reuse whatever packaging you can. Boxes, lindor candies, etc and I’ve been a subscriber since I started my channel. 😊
Meg! Congrats on achieving this many subscribers. I can't say I'm surprised, your work is original and beautiful - I think I found you by searching out craft room tours and your voice is so relaxing I subscribed. My favourite thing for saving money on JJ supplies - well, its either using the resource recovery centre, which is $13 (NZD) per tote bag or by swapping books in my local little free libraries. I don't often keep paperbacks after I've read them, but I notice a lot of what's in the book libraries is better as JJ fodder - out of date reference books, translation books and 1950's annuals and children's books I have found in those places. I'm finding my local thrift stores want so much more money for vintage books and ephemera these days - antique store prices in a lot of cases. Edit: More than happy to pay for shipping. I know it's not cheap, but I'm just thrilled to have the opportunity to enter. Thank you.
I am a happy subscriber and am soooooo happy you’re almost to 5000, Meg! How wonderful and none of us are surprised! This journal is such yummy eye candy with bright fun colors! I love the JWA picture on the front, too!! My money saving hint is to tell lots of folks about your hobby, show your journals, gift your journals and people will get a greater understanding of what you use. I have had a few friends give me such sweet treasures they find when cleaning out a loved one’s home and they are happy that it be used by someone else, used creatively, and lives on!
Congratulations on the growth of your channel! Your channel is unique and I really enjoy it. I've been a subscriber for a while. My money saving tip is to stay organized. It keeps you from buying something you already have or too much of one thing. Also, use what you have.
Congrats Meg for approaching 5K! I love your channel and your creativity and am lucky to own some of your amazing journals! You will be at 5K quickly!!!
Meg, I'm so happy for you that you are so close to this milestone. You are so talented. I love your journals. My favorite free or low cost resources for journal making are hand-drawn pictures and doodling. I've been practicing these skills to use in my journals. Also, you can images that are in the public domain at no cost for your personal journals - and printing hem out at the library is low cost. While you are at the library, you can look for free or gently used books for sale (Friends of the Library sales).
I’m a subscriber. What an adorable journal. My money saving tip is to use your junk mail envelopes with windows for shaker cards. Go to thrift stores, goodwills also. Congratulations Meg!!!!
Congratulations Meg!! Such a beautiful journal! You were one of the first people who inspired me when I really got into watching TH-cam for junk journaling and have been subscribed since. I have found the best things for junk journals during the last two summers at yard or estate sales and year round at my favorite thrift stores and the bins. Have always loved old paper and 'art junk' so nothing goes unnoticed when I'm on a treasure hunt. Lol Thank you for all that you share with us! ❤
I’m a subscriber and I love your channel! I find the best deals at garage sales and church rummage sales. The prices are usually less expensive than thrift stores.
What a fun colorful journal! I have been a subscriber for 2 years, and I have seen how you have progressed in your journal making. My money saving tip is to shop at the Goodwill Outlet bins, if you have them in your area. You pay for wares by the pound, so you can find donated paper supplies, wrapping paper, cards, etc., for mere pennies.
Such a gorgeous perfectly sized journal! I do like retro and mid century modern anything, haha! I recently subscribed. Your love of this genre really comes through...My money saving tip is let your fam and friends know you like magazines so they can toss your way when they are getting rid of them. use them for making your own fodder and fussy cut images. Look at packaging for retro styles to cut out. find retro fabric at thrift stores. new fabric can be sooo expensive! ....thanks so much!
Meg I am so super duper looper excited for you friend🥳 You are so talented and inspiring I think that the whole world could benefit from watching your channel! Well you know that I thrift almost everything junk journal related however I also look for clearance on many items. For example once back to school was done retailers put the left over school supplies on clearance. I took that opportunity to stock up on index cards and got them for .25 cents per pack. Since getting my Cinch machine I use these to create little notebooks like the one I sent you. Now I have a stock of index cards to create more notebooks. Cha Ching on a Shoe String!!! Congrats to you Meg! In all seriousness your channel is a very important part of my week and I wish you many years of success!
I have been a subscriber for a while. I enjoy all your videos and ideas. I save money on junk journal supplies by shopping at Dollar Tree, only using coupons at JoAnns and Michaels, and using various items from restaurants and stores that are free. Today my silverware was wrapped in a sticker that said “I love coffee more than anything.” So cute. Grabbed everyone’s at the table. lol. There’s also paper doilies the coffee sits on, cute paper placemats, etc. I’ve even used real orchids that came on my plate at an Italian restaurant. Dried them and laminated them, then made a tag. Lots of free things every where you look!! This is a darling journal. I would love to own it!!
Meg, Congrats on 5k subscribers! I have been a subscriber for a long time and know that having a TH-cam channel is a lot of work. I LOVE all your ideas and very creative journals. Please keep up the great work of inspiring us all with your beautiful creations. My new favorite free item to use to make a journal cover is the Amazon brown paper packages. I love the crinkle sound it makes as you open the journal. 💗
I’m a subscriber. My money saving tip is to make your own alcohol ink spray with dried up markers, alcohol, and water. I’ve made them, and they are fantastic!
Hi Meg, congratulations on being so close to 5,000 subscribers, of which I am very happy to be one. My tip, mainly to myself, is "use what you have" and more especially stay away from the clearance aisle at Walmart. (that's a joke, because I've found a lot of goodies there. I just may not need more goodies, but t's hard to resist them.) Thank you for the opportunity to win your beautiful journal.
Congratulations Meg! 5k is an awesome milestone, and I am so happy for you! My money saving tip is to ask around at paint and hardware stores for discontinued wallpaper sample books for wonderful cheap/ free scrapbook paper substitute. Also fabric stores and interior design shops sometimes have sample books as well that you can ask about. ❤❤❤
What a cute journal!!!! The size and colors are wonderful!!!! I love to find JJ items that are awesome, inexpensive and also something that I feel I'm "saving". However, I don't think that's unique to me. I think one easy way to save some money and have a bit of fun is to tell family and friends what you are doing. People have given me some really great stuff that is unique and special. That's my tip. Congratulations Meg!!!
I have loved being a subscriber for some time now. Congratulations on the growth of your channel! This journal is super cute, and the colors are so much fun! As far as money saving tips, I think learning to see everything with new eyes is huge. When you look at the things around you through the lens of junk journaling possibilities are seen in even the ordinary and mundane things.
I am so blessed to be a subscriber to Chasing Retro. My money saving tip for junk journaling is to decorate paper clips with scraps of yarn or fibers to the top and let the pretty colors hang out!
Congratulations Meg. That is so awesome to reach such a number. I haven't written anything for ages but have been with you since you were in the hundreds. I actually won some digitals from you as being in Australia made it too hard for the journal prize. Onwards and upwards. Cheers Kay 😊
I’ve been a subby for a while now. I enjoy each one of your videos and love your style. You have a knack for combining elements for a theme!! Money saving tip….all that junk mail everyone receives but never wants…that is a little bit thicker paper/thinner card-stock…is great to use for making tags, backing pockets and tuck spots etc. 🥰👏🏻
I would agree to saving tip, use what you hv, if you’re short of money. Dye your papers. Old patterns, save loads of junk mail. I use parchment paper for pockets.
Hello Meg, congratulations on inching up to 5000 subbies. Well done! That is a lot of hours of long days on your part. Thank you! My money saving idea is to thrift at “off the beaten path” thrift stores. They are much lower priced stores and it’s more fun to dig through their treasures. Hugs🌸
Congratulations Meg! I'm a long time subscriber. My personal cost saver thing I do is to go to my local swapmeet. They have many spaces that sell tables of books for $1. I've picked up children's books, cookbooks, photography, gardening, museum art and even antique books for only $1. Sometimes if you buy a certain amount they even throw in a few more for free. Thank you for offering your lovely journal to a subscriber.❤
Big Congrats Meg on reaching 5k subscribers!! Yay you!! I’ve been subscribed for sometime now not quite when you first started but close I think. My money saving tip would be to utilize junk mail (envelopes, post cards, catalogs, etc) you can do some amazing transformations to them!!
Hi Meg - Wow! 5K is so great. You definitely deserve it! You are so kind and talented. I love your journal. You elementary/middle school sounds colorful and fun. I loved hearing about that. The way I "save" money for junk journal supplies is by going to estate sales. I always find new and interesting items for rock bottom prices. Though it does require getting up early which is sometimes tough. xo Mary
Love your retro style!..I am a subscriber and my favorite tip is to check out garage and estate sales as I get so much from them . ..So many people start crafting but end up getting rid of a lot of stuff...That and old books are practically given away especially on the last day...Dont forget the free box!
Love this wonderful journal. I am a subscriber, I found your channel from weeds and wishes and Diane Hubert’s pretty pink cottage doing your chasing retro challenge. Loving your style and creative talent. My money saving tips are like most, thrift stores, estate sales, garage sales, friends, magazines, books etc….
Congratulations on your near 5k milestone! I’ve been a subscriber from nearly the beginning. My favorite cost saving tip is use your local marketplace. I’ve found rubber stamps, fabric and paper ephemera that others don’t seem to want. The other idea is go through something in your craft room that hasn’t been opened in a long time. It may sound silly, but I’ve found treasures I forgot I had!😂
Meg, this journal is so cute! 🥰 The colors remind me of my favorite childhood cartoon, Scooby-Doo!❤ Congratulations on being so close to 5,000 subscribers. 🎉what a milestone! 🎉💖 I am a subscriber of course. I can't wait to see what you have in store for your next creations. 🥰 Almost forgot my money saving tip. I love to reuse lots of things! Soda can tab with some ribbon is now a closure! Junk mail window is now a pocket. Throw out a bread tab?! Why that's a journal page tab now. 😂
Subscribed, my tip is to try to use what you have. Think outside the box, find things around the house. I just found your channel . Congrats on nearing5k!!!
Hi Meg! Thank you for all you do in bringing fun videos to us… Love all of your journals and your style! I am a subscriber ❤️. My thrifty money saving tip for junk journaling is to check at your workplace when things are being cleaned out or trashed, there may be some good cardstock , cardboard or paper that would be useful…😊 Thanks for doing the giveaway, congratulations on 5k!🎉
I have learned so much from your channel as a subscriber! My money saving tip is to keep & reuse acetate from packaging. Pasta boxes usually have acetate as well as some beauty supplies. Once it’s on your radar to scan for it, you’ll be surprised how much “free” acetate is available. ❤
I'm not at all surprised you're reaching 5K, as you are so talented and I think, especially, your sweet spirit shines through your videos and your work! I've been a subscriber for quite some time now - you've taught me so much. TY. Money saving tip: hmmm, perhaps to go outside of your normal neighborhood whenever you can to frequent their thrift stores, antique malls, etc. I find much better items when I look in small towns in the northern states vs. S FL where I live.
I am a subscriber. This journal is so lovely. My money saving tip is shopping your local thrift store. Not only are the prices great but you are helping others. The one I personally shop at gives to those in need in the local community.
Congratulations Meg!!🎉What a sweet journal and special giveaway.😍 I’m already a subscriber and my money saving tip is to check your local libraries to see if they have a free/giveaway book bin. I recently picked up some amazing books to use in my journal making. 💞
I am a subscriber. Love this journal. So beautiful and the colors are so gorgeous together. My money saving tip is to use recycled material. Things going to be thrown away like packaging, junk Mail envelopes, etc. are great to reuse and repurpose.
Congratulations. I love your channel and so glad I am a subscriber. My tip is to request brouchures , catalogs and anything city and state tourism centers will mail out. They are a wealth of maps, great photos and large envelopes to reuse. What a sweet story😊
I am a subscriber. Congratulations on reaching 5 000 subscribers! My money saving tip is to shop at independent thrift stores (better prices than Goodwill). I try to see clothing, etc with an open mind as how to repurpose for journals. I LOVE retro! Such memories for me as I grew up with these colors and images.
Subscriber. Congrats on your channel growth. I have not been junk journaling long. However, I have learned to just ask for things. My parents still get magazines which they throw away after a bit. I have asked for them to give them to me when they are finished. I have also asked my coworkers to think of me when they have things like magazines, old books, etc. I only fell down this rabbit hole just this year, but these things have helped me not go broke with my new hobby.
My money saving tip for free items just occurred to me recently. While car traveling I realized that all welcome centers when entering a new state have tons of free paper and ephemera in them. Some of them even give you a bag to tote it in!😊
Wow, congratulations! I commented yesterday and came back to say I gave a shout out for your giveaway on my Live video yesterday and I can’t find my comment. So weird! Hopefully this one “sticks”. My money saving tip is; two months a year buy nothing and craft with what you have - it stretches your skills. Also, get to know your local estate sale sellers. Frequent their sales, be friendly even if you don’t buy a lot and talk to them about what you do and look for. ❤❤❤❤❤ 5 hearts for 5K 🎉😮😄
I’m a subscriber. I hope you make it to 5k and beyond. Such a cute journal!!! tip: Place a piece of packing tape over a printed image before you cut it out. The tape adds a glossy look to your ephemera.
Beautiful journal! I am a subscriber. I love your channel. My money saving tip is to buy books at the Friends of the Library If you have one in your area. The books are inexpensive and they also have a free bin. Congratulations on nearing the 5k!
I am a subscriber and my tip is this: ask your junk journalers friends to share with you about etsy shops with good vintage ephemera and affordable and economic prices, for example cipmunks vintage mercantile.
Your journal is beautiful I’m sure anyone would love it! I know I would. I use empty tissue decorative boxes cut up into tags ephemera and such. I’m always looking for things I can recycle into my stash. I used a used dryer sheet the other day for a touch of interest in some clusters. Hope all of you have a great day.😊
Long time subscriber and have purchased 3 journals from you. Just love your style. Congrats on nearing 5K🎉 you’ll get there before you know it. 😊 great journal for give away. Hoping it comes to me.😂
Brand new subscriber!! Cost saving tip: I love getting my items off of FB marketplace & curb treasure (curb alerts) for move out/clean outs/after estate sales. I’ve gotten so much ephemera from after estate sales when they want everything gone.
I am a subscriber! I love this journal! So excited for you! My money saving tip is thrift stores. I love finding things that are very inexpensive but fun!
I just subscribed! This journal is so “my style”. It’s beautiful! My money-saving tip is to make decorative punches out of food and beauty product packaging. I love using them for clusters and other embellishments.
Hi Meg👋I'm a subscriber 😊My saving money tip is going to my local library down the street and getting their sale books from .25 to a few dollars. I've gotten soooo many vintage/antique books!!! Also I was part of a local free giveaway marketplace for awhile, and last summer and this summer found free garage sales and also at any garage sales I always go through free box's, I've found some real little treasures in them! At this point many friends know what I do so if they have something they are giving away they'll ask if I want it. Guess I gave more than one tip lol 🤣
Such a cute and colorful journal! My money saving tip is shopping yard sales and thrift stores for supplies and collage over all those card stock advertisements I receive in the mail!❤ I’ve been a subscriber for about two years. Tammie Tamm
I am a subscriber and my money saving tip is go to your local paint shop and ask for out of season wallpaper sample books, most times they give them for free! 💕
Hello Meg. I’m a subscriber. New at junk journal and trying to figure out money saving tips also. So far I go to a store where books and other papers items are sold by the pound. Would love to have one of your journals for inspiration.
This journal has a great color palette 🎨 you have a gift for finding the past and bringing it back to life in a beautiful combination way 🧡💛💚🩵 I’m not entering the contest. But I would like to share my own thrifty art idea. I love making tags and collage pages out of recycled magazine images and children’s book images. 😊 here’s to making 5000 subbies ! 🎉

Congrats Meg! Love your videos. I’ve learned so much watching you create and share Thanks!
Okay, in addition to commenting with a money-saving tip here, I have shared your post on Instagram. Hope you get to 5K soon! You deserve it!!
Though it does require getting up early which is sometimes tough. xo Mary
Congratulations!!! Hopefully you'll hit 5k soon!!! I love the journal.
I watch my buy nothing site because people are always giving away fabric and/or clothing that can be recycled!!
Love that eyeglass stamp!!! Great journal! Just getting started on my junk journal journey. Your channel has inspired me alot thanks!!!
Welcome to this awesome community! I just subscribed to your channel! :) Best of luck!
Congratulations 🎉😊❤
Subscriber from New Hampshire. Sharing thrifted supplies is my advice . It keeps supplies out of the landfills and spreads the supplies!
I’m so excited for you, reaching 5k subscribers! That’s amazing! 5000 people who love your channel and your exquisite journals! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have learned so much from your channel as a subscriber! My money saving tip is to keep & reuse acetate from packaging. Pasta boxes usually have acetate as well as some beauty supplies. Once it’s on your radar to scan for it, you’ll be surprised how much “free” acetate is available. ❤
A beautiful journal! My tip is using unwanted, stained, old clothes and linens as fabric. Thanks Meg! 🤗
Such a cute Journal!
Some of them even give you a bag to tote it in!😊
$ saving tip- ASK anyone and all you know for whatever your looking for. The word trickles on down the line 😂you’d be surprised where items come from.
Congratulations! Also, your box is packed and headed to you tomorrow! 😍❤
I love. I had watched the video, but didn't leave a comment. Glad I made it.
Beautiful journal! I am a subscriber. I love your channel. My money saving tip is to buy books at the Friends of the Library If you have one in your area. The books are inexpensive and they also have a free bin. Congratulations on nearing the 5k!
I shared the link on The District Show and Tell.
I've been a subbie for quite a while too! My money saving tip is to save tags from clothing and Amazon packaging to use for fabric covers 🥰
Meg, I shared you out on my community page. Thanks
Hoping it comes to me.😂
Subsciber here! Money saving tip: Don't throw it away, reuse it. I love putting "junk" in my journals...Turn trash into treasure...😊
How fun. Congratulations, Meg!

I’m a subbie and I get almost all of my supplies at yard sales and free books at the library “free shelf”.
I shared it on my Facebook page.
I shared this video on my Community tab❤❤😊
