Factory amps for a TransAm/camaro LS1 is either listed as a 102 or 105 but I have seen them listed as 90amp and 95amp alternators. Any 04 and earlier 4 prong plug, 6 groove, clockwise rotation amp will work the one I got was from an 04 Escalade 6.0L. I've seen people get them for 2500HD, Tahoe, Avalanche, etc. Just make sure its listed as a 145amp and not a 105 because some of those trucks did have the 105. Most 6.0L trucks with a decent amount if electronics came with the 145amp though. So most any 04 and slightly older 6.0L SUV and truck alternators should work. Good luck and enjoy the extra power. If your power steering is leaking you will likely have to replace your alternator soon. That's what killed mine even though the car only has 70k miles. 20 years does alot to ruin rubber seals and bushings no matter how little its driven.
that big bracket has a bushing in each of the two front bolt holes and you have to move those forward with channel lock pliers or you'll never get the Alternator clocked into place. I spent 15-20 mins. trying to get one clocked into position and when it wouldn't I layed under the bracket and saw the damn things sticking out the back of the bracket for the first time! When you tighten up the two bolts it drives the bushings back through the bracket and takes up the slack between the bracket and alternator.....kinda like the opposite of the bushings you push back into a brake caliper so the caliper will go back into place when you're changing brake pads.
These LS1 140 AMPS are in all Australian manufactured V8 holden . And really i found its not really enough amps , you can get bigger Alternators than this on ebay
Thanks for the info ! I Did this mod to my 98 transam and yes it works very good. but i didn't remove the rear braket , should I remove it or just leave it as is ? Thanks
@@bestever602 did you have to use a different alternator connector or does the stock connector still work with the new alternator upgrade, i have a 2000 Trans Am ws6 that i want to do this upgrade to.
Awesome been looking for a video on this upgrading my stereo system. So the only thing I have to do is remove that back bracket and everything else is the same as for the belt and bolts. Did you change your battery also or no I'm putting in about 1300 watts
@@jrbird7571 I did this swap with a 05 avalanche 5.3 alternator with 105 amps on my firebird two months ago. it is not neccesary to lower the swaybar. all you have to do is to remove this little supportbracket on the back of the stock alternator. first remove the alternator, after that you gained access to this bracket. it's a little tricky, but not that hard
@@navybluethunder Several months ago I put a 220 amp powermaster in my Trans Am and I did have to loosen the sway bar to get it in place. I also had to reclock the alternator so that the 12V post wasn't jammed into the power steering line.
@@jrbird7571 Ok, I removed the alternator bracket completeley, then putted the 105amp in place to connect the battery terminal and the connector in place. After that I maneuvered the alternatorbracket over to the alternator mounting points, with the upper two bolts loose in place. Now I had to wiggle the alternator assembly to the correct mounting points to the block. I do not have a special soundsystem, so the 105amp is enough for my application.

That power steering leak will kill that alternator right away same reason i replaced mine for this video
Leaking power steering res. Right above alt= inevitable failure.
Thankyou for making this video , 🇦🇺
POV you watching this video while under the car rn 😮

Autozone and oriellys have the 105 Amp alt for 2 bills..Ebay has them for the same price, only i got a 250 Amp alternator..250 is the way to go!

Yes this good to know ,I have a 99 Trans am was wondering if there is a way to get a bigger one
What is your voltage at after installing the alternator? I installed the same one, and my voltage is at 14.4, is that ok? Or too high?
Did you muscle the ps lines? My ps line are right on the alternator
Can you provide the specific part number. Wanting to do this to my car

If u leave that bracket on it gets in the way

I'm upgrading to a 140 amp but the pig tail is almost impossible to remove.. how did you get it off and the pig tail does it only have 1 wire?

Sorry for super late reply. Same size battery just bought a new one at batteries + bulbs
good deal did you have to lower the sway bar?
I'm curious of this as well. Even the smaller 105 is a bear to wrestle in and out.
