This video is directed by Dave Meyers - one of the biggest music video directors of all time!! He’s worked with everyone from Missy to Kendrick and pretty much ever huge pop star you can think of. Many of the shots in this video are a homage to artworks or famous videos… if it feels like there’s a lot in it - that’s why.
How did you miss ALL OF THOSE VIDEO REFERENCES?!?!?! HOW?!? BUSTA RHYEMS, KENDRICK, MISSEY, AND SO MANY MORE. TERRIBLE. UNFORGIVABLE. She usually doesn’t do show out, dance tunes. This is just that but the video is homage to every other hip hop artist to do it first. Album covers and even her flow. Come on guys!!!!
Full agree, but I’ve seen a joe e sparks video before so I know he is a VERY basic videographer so it wasnt a surprise. You can see the abstract nature of the video blowing their little minds. I get the feeling his brother is a very basic MC too. I’d love to hear him try and use a word that doesn’t exist like “nosis” on a track.
@googleaccount4159 there actually is a word gnosis, but if he used it in its true meaning that would be pretty surprising. It is a Greek word that means knowledge. But a certain type of knowledge.
Ohhh Joe Joe Joe, cmon bruvva you must realise as a hip hop videographer that this whole video is Dave Meyers paying Homage to all his older work with all those scenes repping older works. Surely you remember Missy Elliot videos there's 2 or 3 repped in here.
From one video director to another… I can’t believe you are unaware of Dave Meyers 😅 He is one OG director alongside other greats like Michel Gondry, Hype Williams, Spike Jonze, McG, Chris Cunningham, Mark Romanek, Anton Corbijn and more. Some are huge film directors now -like David Fincher, who did music videos in his earlier career. Would love to see you do a deep dive into the directors who have played a large part in shaping the direction of the music video genre.
I think we need to make a playlist of all the videos referenced in this so that Joe E can react to the classics. Never be ashamed of what you don't know. Enthusiasm & curiosity are much more important for reactors than encyclopedic knowledge.
Appreciate the love for the UK! We’ve got so many great artists you will enjoy discovering. Alongside Little Simz, there’s Ghetts, Dave, Kano, Chip, Christale, Skepta, JME… so many more - but these are a great start.
To me she is flexing. She references many past music videos- cultural and artistic references. In the scene where she is looking 👀 ng down within the chalk outlines she References Keith Herring ‘s art and crime scene chalk outlines of a bodies
*5:20 I don't think it is random at all; isn't she sampling or referencing all these classic hip hop videos with each vignette? Beep beep, who's got the keys to the jeep?
Also Simz actually does skateboard in a lot of her videos, and she does play tennis every morning, and she used to work in an art gallery. I get the impression her video for Marilyn Monroe was filmed there.
She is fantastic. I feel your guest is dismissive of her. This is her fleecing. I love her dead calm delivery- how she rides the beat and word play. Much more relatable to me than a guy talking about chasing money cars and sex to be relevant.
Oh huns, tennis is an oh so white sport in the UK too. She's deeeeeep. GOAT! Her storytelling, about her childhood, parents, racism, Nigeria and the UK. Come on, step up boys! 😹 Much love, From STHLM, Sweden
I honestly don't like this kind of rap at all, it grates on my nerves but for some reason this and Venom I really like no clue why! I do like the fact that she doesn't have to use sex or her body to sell like so many many other female rappers, no sex drugs &violence from little Simz. There's a great live gig too featuring Obongjayar which is totally fab. I find her fascinating
Since I know you like one takes, and like a UK artist, have a look at Aitch "Straight Rhymez 1", He's so young and I'm not sure he's done better than this, it's very entertaining.
Okay but if it was a male American rapper doing these kind of shots they wouldn't be judging art in art TF is wrong with y'all. This is a bad reaction, didn't listen to the music but was worried about the visuals
Oh dear.....these dudes participate in this art form.....for a living? This was as lack luster as the interior design in the background. I won't be back.

This video never gets old. She's so good!
So So Good!
Ex emcee playing it down the whole time yet grooving every damn sec. Just give praise bro

Thanks Bruvh!!!
Good stuff joe e. Saw the first reaction and happy you brought another friend here ❤❤😊
Each one of the clips are homages to big videos by big artists that this director has directed over the years. Its magic!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
She is fantastic. I feel your guest is dismissive of her. This is her fleecing. I love her dead calm delivery- how she rides the beat and word play. Much more relatable to me than a guy talking about chasing money cars and sex to be relevant.
She just dropped a new EP, but no videos yet. Hopefully, she'll do some videos for the new songs.
Can not wait!!!!!
its the mellow beat on this one for me 🔥
The video is homage to other famous videos, im surprised you guys didnt get it right away.
#LittleSimz 🔥🔥!! 🌎💗
2:42 when the reaction starts
you should react to 'No Thank You' short movie with several snippets from the album, it's a masterpiece !
Love you guys reacting to her! Would love to see Little Simz Dead Body or Gratitude 🙏🙏 both fantastic videos
Absolutely this, 💯🔥🔥🔥
Dead Body and Gratitude are two of my favourites by Simz.
Joe E & Danny

She has to be one of the best female MCs around. ❤

She's just fkn fire!

Joe E--, Romain dropped new single called rainwater on utube just now 12th
Even with my limited knowledge I got the nods to the greats in this vid, and I know that meyers is a good director… and these guys are pros???
Since I know you like one takes, and like a UK artist, have a look at Aitch "Straight Rhymez 1", He's so young and I'm not sure he's done better than this, it's very entertaining.
