Congratulations on your 1st Solo trip Sheri ! For sure it is a good practice for all adventure participants to feel confident they can navigate, camp and transport independently if necessary, not to mention the the solace that comes from being in such wonderful country solo. Also nice the way you guys planned this run to make this solo adventure happen. Great channel. Keep those adventures coming team.
Thanks so much, James! We completely agree with your comments - we're so lucky to be able to escape to such gorgeous country, whether solo or as a team. We appreciate the kind words!
We thought this trip worked well to make sure I (Sheri) had space to be independent but still small and close enough together incase of any emergencies. Thank you so much for following along!
Nice work guys. I enjoyed this video. Sherri did incredible, she did very well out there on her own but she also did really well with all the filming which makes everything much more difficult. I've been a television producer for 23 years and even I struggle sometimes filming my adventures. Anyways I loved the video but to be honest I really like your videos of you two together, you have great chemistry!
Thanks so much, Dave! You get such great perspectives with your filming. It never shows exactly how lovely it is out there, but getting close is nice :) We so appreciate the kind words - thank you!!
What a great idea for a trip, the best of both worlds. Your wildlife and landscape photography keeps reaching new levels of excellence, Jay. Your dad was with you all the way, Sheri. My wife and I enjoyed every minute of your adventure, even the non-stop chatter of the little woodpecker. 😅 Great video and looking forward to the next one! Cheers from Sudbury.
Thanks so much! After a while, the chatter of the little woodpecker faded into the background, and we actually missed it a bit when we left. We so apprecitate the kind words and encouragement! Did you end up going on the MIssissagi adventure yet? We'd love to hear about it :)
@@beautyofthebackcountryHi. Funny story... I tried three times to reply in the comment section to your offer of assistance but because I included my email, I think YT deleted them. It didn't occur to me to use your email address on your channel's home page. (Duh). So anyway, we just got back from Mississagi last night, what a fun trip! We managed to find a campsite and the swifts and rapids we ran were a hoot. Thank you for your kind offer of assistance and had I been smarter about the email thing, I certainly would have appreciated your help. But everything worked out, it was so much fun. Thanks again and looking forward to your next trip. Cheers. Daryl
@@flynorthproductions Oh, we were wondering how that trip turned out for you two! So glad to hear it was a success :) it's a really underappreciated part of the river that we think deserves far more visitors. You can send us an email any time! We're going to enlist your help with an upcoming trip in the LaCloche Mountains, so we'll be in touch soon!
Sweet adventure guys. Cool idea. Way to use your Canadian stroke on Canada Day to sneak up onto that moose...always a magical moment. Man, if I can get my kids to solo canoe trip, maybe it will finally be quiet enough where I can sneak up to some moose again, and not just see their fresh foot prints in the sand or mud banks. Hope you had an amazing long weekend. I love ripping that loop every few years, not too far from the cabin.
Thanks, Mattias! Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes of silence for the forest to come alive :) As nice as it is to see fresh prints in the mud and sand, it's something else to see them in the flesh. Looking forward to watching your new Steel River video!!
Thanks, Tyler! We had been talking about doing this trip for at least a couple of years - it came out exactly as we had hoped. Highly recommend trying this route!
Thanks, Dave! We got pretty lucky with that relatively rare woodpecker just before the chick fledged. The eagles were plentiful, and that not-too-shy beaver was a treat. But the calf moose on the way out was really special for Jay. Thanks so much for watching 🙏
I watched this tonight over a pizza and nice bottle of wine.Loved it. Love the concept of you guys starting together and then seperating, love the route, love the honesty. There is no right way to portage a canoe, jist get to the other side 😂 You downplayed the intensity of the trip at the end of the video. I disagree, there are very VERY few that solo camp because of how intense it is. Anyone that does it solo should be proid, regardless of the area, and I know Sherri's father wpuld be of her. Nice work out there.
Thanks, Steve! We suppose you're right about solo camping being intense, making even the seemingly simplest of routes that much more challenging for the solo camper. Sheri makes it look easy with the world's lightest pull saw, though ;) Thanks for the lovely comment, and for checking out the video, pal!
The struggle is real tryin to keep a fire going without a proper saw and axe! When I lived in the RV on the West Coast, I bought a Silky katana 650 so I could take down huge dead standing trees. That's the only way to maintain sanity living outdoors in the winter rainforest! There is literally nothing else dry out there in the winter and I'd had enough epic battles with the fire for a lifetime! The funny thing there was even when the sun came out (for once) it made everything steam because it was so saturated!
While this isn't quite the rainforest, the bush was absolutely soaked after about 2 weeks of steady rain so we feel your pain! You're so right about the only burnable wood being standing dead wood - sometimes it's tough to find in parks, but LSPP is so lightly used that we typically don't have to venture far to find good wood. Thanks for watching!
That's awesome! Since I solo camp all the time, I know the difficulties of doing everything yourself but I often think; wouldn't it be cool to camp with somebody else one of these days? LOL! Then I remember trying to teach friends backcountry camping and how I felt I had to do everything anyways plus babysit them cause the one friend was terrified of being ate by a bear. LOL! So ya, I'll stick to solo canoe camping. The way you guys did this was pretty cool to watch.
haha You definitely are used to camping solo, and it would be a transition to camping with someone else. If that someone is new to camping, it would be a heck of a transition for you! Thanks so much for watching, and thanks for the sweet comment.

So cool you trusted each other to do the trip. You are both capable and as a couple you are a great team. Enjoy and STAY SAFE!!
Aww thank you! We so enjoy doing trips together, but though it would be interesting to switch it up a bit :) Thanks for watching!
Yay Sheri!🙌
Thanks, Jerry! It was nice to prove to myself (Sheri) that I could travel through the forest for multiple days on my own :)
Wow Sheri! amazing, and I have no doubt your dad would be so proud of you. Cheers and love!
Thank you so much for the support and following along! I appreciate the love :)
Yes Sheri! You nailed it sister!
Thank you so much, Joolz! It was a challenge I've (Sheri) been working towards for some time and am so happy to have accomplished.
Nice job Sheri. I think you deserve a brand new Swift solo boat to make the next trip easier.
HAHA!! I think a brand new Swift solo boat would be great too!! Although I do prefer to share the canoe with Jay :)
So well done sherry, love your adventures together..
Thank you!! We are so glad you are enjoying our adventures.
Your Dad would be proud , Great video
Thank you so much for that comment and the support.
Your Dad would be proud ,Sheri! I lost my Dad Nov 6 1966! Miss him , think on him everyday! My condolences 🙏
Great video as always Jay&Sheri
Thank you very much for that - as long as we think of lost loved ones they are still with us xoxo
What an interesting concept for a trip/video. Congrats Sherry!

@@beautyofthebackcountry one of my favourite experiences!
You both did very well. Going solo is not for everyone. Jocelyn says you rocked it Sheri!!
Thanks, Jocelyn and Jeff! It's a pretty easy way to test the solo camping waters, so to speak 😉 Thanks for watching!
One of my favourite routes (: Awesome video, love the concept!
Thanks, Konrad! It's such a lovely little loop that's accessible to just about anyone :)
Awesome solo, solo trips. Like the firestarters. Similar to what I use. (wood shavings, wax in egg cartons) Love the views.
Thanks, Gary! We don't often use fire starters, but they certainly came in handy on this trip. Thanks for watching!!
Awesome adventure! Loved the idea for this one. Kassy and I are going to have to try this one day!
Thanks, Tyler! We had been talking about doing this trip for at least a couple of years - it came out exactly as we had hoped. Highly recommend trying this route!
That wood pecker! Nice capture!! This was a great video you two. All around. The story, the sounds, the soundtrack. All of it.

You both put a lot of heart and soul into this partly solo partly shared trip!
@@Susan53940 We sure did - our emotions were in this one, so much gratitude for the gifts we have. Thanks you so much!!
What a great video! Good job to you both!
