Plevne is a city in bulgary. During the 93 war Osman Pasha defended this city with 20 thousand soldiers against 120 thousand Russian soldiers for 6 months. When he ran out of ammunition and food, he had to surrender.

I have a great interest in the ww1 Ottoman army,and thus many books. I have always thought that though it failed the 1915 attack by three strong columns on the Suez Canal was an amazing military feat. Just getting there was an awful hardship.
It was a suicide attack with 20 thousand men... too few soldiers for a goal like conquering Egypt. 🙂 Historians in Türkiye sometimes criticize this plan. But we had to attack because the Germans were putting too much pressure...

Osman Pasha fought 4 times in Plevne, in the first war the Russian armies were 2 times the Ottoman army, in the second war they were 3 times, in the third war they were exactly 4 times bigger than Ottoman Army, in the last war when the Russians brought 200 thousand soldiers against 20 thousand Ottoman soldiers, Osman Pasha had to surrender with his tired army.
