    How beautifully you have explained the emotional layers , the contrast and the deep sentiments hidden beneath the words. poetry is not just about understanding the words, unfortunately this is what is mostly aimed by the teachers. How I wish for this level of literary sensitivity which is abstract yet comprehensive.

      Thank you so much for your comment! I think if you already have that love of poetry inside you no one can stop you from seeing and feeling the beauty of it.
      Unfortunately, though, as you say, some teachers kill off the seeds which, if they were allowed to grow, would become the treasure of their students' lives.
      Poetry - like music, art, etc. - gives our lives meaning and depth. I hope you will always carry that love of it with you.

      @@anosensei Oh, thank you very much! I also have one question, if I may: can the analogy of the "winds of poesy" Keats evokes be compared to the skylark as a symbol for poetry in Shelley's "To a Skylark" ? Thank you very much!

    • @anosensei
      @anosensei  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@fred2018 Yes. There are several points of comparison. Keats's "wings of poesy" suggest poetry's ability to lift the poet's imagination and spirit, while Shelley's skylark is described as an "unbodied joy" that soars and sings high above the earth. Both poets use these symbols to represent an idealized conception of poetry:
      Keats portrays poetic imagination as having wings that can transport the mind beyond ordinary experience and Shelley calls the skylark an "immortal" being that embodies pure poetic expression.
      But there are also some differences. Keats's nightingale is more abstract, while Shelley's skylark is more a part of the real world of nature. Keats's "wings of poesy" are something he aspires to use, in an active way, while Shelley's skylark is an external source of inspiration that the poet observes in a more passive kind of way.

    Why is the audio quality in this older video better than in your newest ones?

    • @anosensei
      @anosensei  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the feedback. I really don't know the answer to your question! Some of my earlier videos had poor sound and poor visuals, so I invested in a decent microphone and camera in an attempt to solve those problems. But the results are not always as I expect! I'm partially deaf (I can hear things, but I often have difficulty making out the detail of what I hear), so it's sometimes hard for me to assess the quality of the sound and, to some extent, I rely on the equipment to do its job.
      Having said that, though, I can't see that the sound quality here is any better than in the more recent videos. Comparing them, I find that, for example, the "s" sounds are fuzzy here, symptomatic of a general fuzziness, whereas the newer ones have, to my ear, a more rounded and mellow sound.
      I wonder to what extent it depends on the equipment we are using? I remember telling my brother-in-law what a great song Soca Train was, and he downloaded it and played it on his (quite expensive) sound system and it sounded absolutely awful! Clearly the settings appropriate for his usual fare (mainly rock) were not right for Maximus Dan! Perhaps something similar is happening here?

    • @laoshu8311
      @laoshu8311 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anosensei I think it might have something to do with how close you are to the mic. With USB microphones, the proximity has a positive effect, if you can avoid creating plosives, that is.

    Don't you think that nightingale is poetry like poet see poetry as a nightingale, like the nightingale and poetry have the same characteristics like freedom and escapes the reality

    • @anosensei
      @anosensei  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very good point! I am currently working on Coleridge's "Kubla Khan", which can also be seen as a kind of metaphor for the spirit of poetic creativity.
      This video on "Ode to a Nightingale" was my first attempt at analyzing a poem in a video in this way and, looking back on it, I feel that what it says is worth saying, but there is quite a lot that it doesn't say. It looks at the poem in just one way (in terms of the balance of positive and negative elements), and I've been thinking of doing a revised version, looking at it from different perspectives.
      So much to do and so little time!

    • @minusff333
      @minusff333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anosensei yeah like i think, its just a random thought, what if the poet tries to tell us that its not about birds world, like he was more in love with poetry so he compared it to a exact living thing which shares the same characteristics

    • @anosensei
      @anosensei  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@minusff333 Well, I wouldn't want to go overboard with that idea. I wouldn't go so far as to say "it's not about a bird, it's about being in love with poetry". I'd say it _is_ about a bird, but one of the dimensions of the bird is that it represents, or symbolizes, the poetic muse _among_ _other_ _things_ - such as joy, freedom from human suffering, and immortality.
