I think what makes me come back to this channel over and over is how authentic the reactions are. It’s obvious they love music, each reaction feels true, and then their comments are thoughtful and heartfelt. I also love the community that seems to follow and comment- true music lovers!
Eric has that look in his eyes during this song that is reserved only for those who have, lets say, been taken higher in relationships. Scars that aren't easy covered up.
His expression during "The Apparition" mirrored this same sentiment, I feel. Sleep Token is good for that unspoken feeling.

Yeah honestly Sleep Token has been super therapeutic for me cuz I'm realizing i never really recovered from a toxic relationship from over a decade ago. A lot of emotions got pulled out of me when I just saw them at red rocks. Unexpected moments sucker punched the fuck out of me and I started sobbing.
In the live proformence They give you a top tear "blegh" during the break down at the end.
I love the blegh so much but now with it only being in the live and listening to this version I anticipate the blegh and its not there
God I love that cheeky little blegh he throws into the live performance. I wish they'd put it into the recorded version 🥹

Scarlet and ultraviolet are on the opposite side of the spectrum, the lyrics are portraying two people or entities that want different things and their battle to stay together. Scarlet woman is also another name in mythology for the Whore of Babylon, so it could be viewed as I look for lust and you look for something more holy (UV light comes from the sun). Some people think Higher is sung from the perspective of Sleep (the goddess as you said) towards Vessel but I do not subscribe to this belief.
Also, patients that suffer from Sundowning often end up self harming. While they look for ultraviolet (the sun) in the morning, the caretakers look them over for scarlet (blood). This is a possible reference to the dynamic between Vessel and Sleep where Sleep is a sort of caretaker.
I’d also say that scarlet is something that is actually visible, but the other is looking for something that can’t even be seen.
Could be sung from both perspectives, but I know that when he says he's granting more than the debt that he owes it means he's giving more than he can, a common theme in a lot of the songs, like Vore. Being eaten slowly by the relationship, being bit by unseen forces a piece at a time.
Common not only to the catalog, but a standard theme in many relationships period. Someone is always asking for more than even they put out. .
I take that line as saying he lives for scarlet, meaning that he lives for love, and she lives for ultraviolet meaning that she lives for the party or the fun. When i hear ultraviolet, it makes me think of neon lights like in a club.
My fave part of you two is knowing that Kyle is very open when he feels something, it's right there to see. But when Eric is taking in a set of lyrics, it's very subtle. So to see such an open 'fuck me' moment before he suddenly engages fully with open body language is rare and I'm glad to see Sleep Token give you that.

5:15 "It just makes me so happy that we found this band" Kyle - the way you said this along with your facial expression and the shake of your head.....this is how I have been feeling for weeks. Awe, frustration, gratitude. I wish I could have found them sooner. I am jealous of all those lucky souls who found them early on and got to experience the journey from the beginning as the songs, the albums and the band unfurl in this amazing, breathtaking story.
Regardless, I am beyond happy that I finally found them and I am happy that you and Eric also found them.

But each time we battle the blood and the fury takes us a little higher.” Such an amazing chorus, I don’t believe there is a better way of concisely incapsulating the dilemma we all have that we’ll always be with someone who is not the same as ourselves. Therefor by definition there will be friction and struggle, and it can hopefully be worth it.
Higher has always been one of my favorite Sleep Token songs to date, I’m glad their older music is getting its rightful recognition. I need y’all to get to The Love You Want already….

I think a lot of their lyrics are deep metaphors even sleep itself .. but the main theme in my opinion is a toxic relationship that he cant let go of.
Higher is one of my absolute favorites! I love your reactions and I can’t get enough of Sleep Token! I know you guys said you plan to go through everything that they ever put out, so please make sure to also check out their EP‘s called One and Two. Those two records feature some of their absolute best songs in my opinion. AND please also check out the music videos to The Way That You Were and Jaws… two songs that were single releases and never featured on an album, but are sooo good! Jaws is probably one of the best songs they ever released.

Anyone else notice this,, when he sings “the blooooooooood and the fury” something about the tremolo in his voice in the word blood it hits me in a primal caveman like way that sounds like a wounded animal, like a bird calling out or a gazelle screaming as a lion is sinking its teeth in and it makes the lyric hit me so hard. It feels like they’re living and struggling so hard to survive and something in the voice or the way they mixed and recorded taps into these primal emotions and it amazes me.
This next 3 tracks is one of my favorite evolutions on the album. So sick. Can't wait Take Aim, Give, Gods ..... Worship.

I saw Sleep Token live in Anaheim, CA a few weeks ago. The show is up on YT if you guys are interested. The sound on the video is soundboard quality.
Sleep Token is the single greatest........."Anomaly" would probably be the best word for them as they are undefinable.......that I have ever seen in my entire life.
They are untouchable. They do things that no one thinks of, or has the ability to do. Mainly because they have a singer that writes songs and lyrics like no one else and his singing range is as wide as he wants it to be. He not only delivers live, he adds things to the songs that make them even more exciting. The drummer is next level and is in a league of rarefied air. The 3 girl singers singing with Vessel allows for 3 and 4 part harmonies that you just don't see bands pulling off live. The band is so spot on, that it blows my mind at what they have achieved in a very short time.I am beyond thankful that I saw them in a full, proper setting, where they were the headliner, and they did whatever they wanted too.
Even the stage show was COMPLETELY different,
Not one light shined towards the band. EVERYTHING shined out and it was a non-stop light show that was unbelievable. All you saw was silhouettes and maybe an occasional glimpse of the band members here and there.
Vessel never spoke the entire show. Not once. No one cared. I have never been to a show where a PACKED venue would stand in silence to listen as closely as they could. They would cheer after songs and then go dead silent.
That's how much this man and his songs capture the listener and how I will say again, they are the single greatest anomaly / band I have ever witnessed. Watch the concert on YT. WORSHIP
God, the Anaheim ritual was my first time seeing Sleep Token live, and it was one of the most incredible moments I've ever experienced

This was the first song of theirs i heard and i was hooked
After obsessing over Sleep Token for years, I am convinced all the music is about an ex of Vessel's that I shall not name. The wizard behind the curtain so to speak, masked by the "sleep lore" and costumes. This song specifically feels like he cheated and got caught and he felt he could never reconcile no matter what he did. "I am granting you more than the debt that i owe" etc...but yeah if you look at almost every song through this lens it makes perfect sense. A tale of a toxic relationship. An obsessive infatuation with the torment/abuse/toxicity they shared.
Without being too long winded, the trilogy of albums and the way Euclid ended things made it clear that he has spoken his peace about it all and he is ready to move on. I don't think it will be the end of Sleep Token but the focus of the music lyrically may change. Just a guess on that part.
I feel like its opposite of what you described. That Vessel got cheated on. The terms Scarlet and Ultraviolet, to me, feel like theyre alluding to love(scarlet) and thrill seeking (ultraviolet). Like Vessel only wanted to give her love, "granting you more than the debt that i owe" sounds like he's showering her in affection and she doesnt reciprocate, instead shes only in it for the thrills.
I don’t think it’s about “that” relationship. These are complex songs with complex meanings that he wants the listener to interpret on a personal level…
I think this is possibly a correct view of ST. These songs are so personal that he has to write them as the girl is the goddess and the lore and all of that is a part of concealing his view of the relationship without having someone basically off themselves for having 3 albums written about them. To mask that is the lore...which is pretty thin. Plus, he's so emotional about it he probably couldn't perform without the mask and hood. It gives him a safe place to be vessel instead of you know...his real self.

What Kyle was saying about sleep being one among many, I feel like there are several "lesser" Gods and sleep is just one of them. When I listened to this song that's how I interpreted it also, that Sleep left the place where the gods stay, in the daylight (ultraviolet rays), that's why they are looking for UV and Vessel is looking for scarlet... he's literally giving blood sweat and tears to this relationship. He's paid way more for this relationship, more than the debt he owed. And it's obvious that the relationship is toxic. So many people can relate to this such as yourselves. Eric's right though, Vessel is a genius!

I don't know very many people who know about Sleep Token, so watching you discover music I've listened to for years has been a true joy. To me, it hit hard. I’ve been in a relationship that felt this way. It felt like a relationship where you always argue, and find reasons to argue, but you come out the other side feeling like you’re stronger. It felt like when someone always thought they were better than you because of the family they come from, and never hesitate to remind you of that, but when you guys are alone, that’s when they admit that you’re a good person, and you’ve tried to be everything they needed. Made me feel extremely grateful I met my wife lol.
