Time for this 'Old-Timer' to write:) Actually, that '20 mile' stop/house was originally part of a stage line from Denver to Colorado Springs. Parker was 20 miles from the Denver city/county line. 47 years ago, there was no town of Parker. It was just a few buildings situated in a sea of open space: The ultimate 'horse property'. You could have saddled up 'Wildfire' and ridden from your ranch into 'downtown ' Parker in 1973. Parker Road was a two-lane unimproved dirt road. I do miss those wide-open spaces. And the solitude and beauty that came with them.
The 1973 Douglas County population was only 11750 people. Castle Rock had maybe 2000 people and the Douglas County School District was a true rural school district. Douglas County High School--the only HS in Douglas County in 1973--actually had a rodeo club. The school district only had 4200 students. They attended six elementary schools, two junior high schools, and--of course--Douglas County High School.
I can still remember when we arrived at the USAFA in June, 1973; we came south from Denver. I can--almost 50 years later--recall the gloriousness, solitude and the wide open spaces of the Palmer Divide. IOW, there were no 'bedroom communities' in Douglas County. None of the Front Range major cities had suburbs. As an aside, one could actually see open spaces and small ranches before seeing the Denver city/county limits sign.
In 1973, one could have purchased a house for under $10000 and land for under $100 per acre. there were no traffic lights in Castle Rock and it was actually possible to ride from your Castle Rock ranch to the rock itself on 'Wildfire'. One could still feel the Old West. When I visited in 2017, this 'Old-Timer' found it off putting and sense assaultive just seeing how urbanized th Front Range had become. I have no desire to ever live again in the 'Rocky Mountain High, Colorado' state. For me, just as for the long gone Reverse J Diamond, Banning Lewis, Bihlmeyer and Flying Horse ranches, that specialness is gone.
To understand the loss that this 'Old-Timer' feels, one should go to Akron in the far NE corner of Colorado; far away from the madding crowds of the Front Range Urban Corridor and also the 'cheap thrills' crowd heading for the high country. Unfortunately, even this area has been ruined with the large number of feedlots between the Denver metro area and the Nebraska line. Maybe see if there are some state parks/county parks in that Akron area that have both camping and even horses.
After you are settled and let us assume that you have access to a 'Wildfire', you will need to do the following:
    1. Leave your electronic devices in the room/campsite. Let the undervalued Great Plains be your entertainment.
    2. Listen to the long version of the Michael Martin Murphey son 'Wildfire'. Listen to the intro and imagine the haunting beauty. solitude and silence of the high plains.
Assuming that 'Wildfire' is now fully and properly 'tacked'. ride off into the open prairies. However, do it in silence with only the clip clop of the horse as your mind begins to settle down, just contemplating all the hidden beauty and treasures of a part of Colorado that is ignored by the 'in crowd' since it lacks the 'visual thrills' that have ABSOLUTELY ruined what was special about the Front Range.
Eventually, you will reach a promontory; it should have access to trees and safe water for 'Wildfire'. Once 'Wildfire' is made comfortable and underneath shade trees plus also accessing safe clean drinking water; it will be now time to walk and find a comfortable spot to further the stillness.
Once you are comfortably seated[hopefully in a lotus position], close your eyes, be still and allow your mind to joyfully play with the beauty, solitude and expanses of the prairies.

James. Thank you for writing to us and taking me on a journey into the Parkers past. It sounds very peaceful with a much slower pace than what you'll find today. It's great to hear your perspective since I've only been here since 2007. Also, we are jamming out to Wildfire right now. 😁

i’ve lived in 4 states and Parker has been one of my favorite places to live. Very family friendly with great neighborhoods, schools, and lots to do in the surrounding area. But I do have to disagree on the affordability, quite expensive.

Is Parker a suburb of Denver or a seperate town?

Hello, I would like to immigrate from Germany to Colorado/Parker with my wife and our one year old son. For this we will sell our house and my company. So I want to buy/acquire a business or start a new business in Parker and create jobs. I would be very grateful for any suggestions/tips on what is still urgently missing in this region or what is not on offer.

Free publicity! If you ever go to sell you can tell buyers "this is one of only a few homes that were featured in the world famous Living in Parker Colorado video" and I'm sure the street cred alone is worth +15k.

You sure paint a pretty picture of an overpopulated suburb with sky high property taxes! Bumper to bumper traffic all day long! That’s not the place I’d live even if a realtor try’s to blow smoke! Adios !

Unfortunately diversity is heading into Parker...already started in 'Cottonhood'.....

      What are you talking about?

    • @jmb1666
      @jmb1666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@SomewhereInColorado There was another video by some millennial stating Parker was not 'diverse' enough, that it's 80% white and she considered it a 'con' of living here, and she wants to change that. Why do millennials think everyone wants 'diversity'...that is what is ruining our country. The ghetto is slowly moving up this way from Aurora. Starting with Cottonwood area (those ugly apartments they just put in)...those of us who live here call it 'Cottonhood'. Hopefully the prices keep going up to keep the riff raff out.

Janette B there is nothing wrong with diversity, the issue is your mindset.
