As a kid in the 80s, I remember reading reviews saying the Ultima was over engineered compared to the RC 10. After seeing this build I understand that criticism completely. Great piece of content Gav, and song choice in the background. Thanks for sharing.
That is a excellent find. It would be sweet to have those cars again, love the rear instead of forward cockpits of nowadays rc buggies. Great vid as always Rckicks!
I had that exact car back in around 1998 or 1999...also the truck version...great memories with those...I had the M1 control( i believe it was called M1) top of the line. They were just starting with Lithium batteries then, like 65 a pack and the motors were pretty fast, similar to the one you put on this.
When they did the rerelease I had the pleasure of building one of these. It has been in the box ever since. I really want to use it but dang its worth a decent amount now.
My Fan RC Rc10 moves, I Put a 3800kv Castle motor and venom speed control in it, and it pulls wheelies in the dirt with bald tires. I dont recommend, putting that much power in a race car, unless you know doing backflips isnt the main goal. Also you have to know how to set up both the shocks and the slipper, and the diff. But its a race car, if its lose ore slips, Tighten it, if its to tight loosen it, and dont run your shock spring preaload collars all the way down even if you wannna drift it....
Man, I wanted one of these so badly when they came out!! It's gorgeous! It's great seeing the subtle differences between the different manufacturers, with the use of hex bolts on this, as opposed to Tamiyas screws. It was also great to see your attention to detail, matching the orientation of the crosshead screws. My dad was a cabinet maker, and he always did that. Something I picked up. Can't wait to see it running. 👍🏻
I can make you jealous, I had 3 Worlds re-re’s, I paid retail for 1 and paid £130 each for the other 2😝. I’ve built and raced 1, robbed 1 for spares and I was going to build the third as a shelf queen but sold it on for a good profit😁 Love the body btw Gavin
Gavin love the build!!! Takes me back to my childhood ( I was 13…lol) for the reciever to use a “vintage” reciever and still get the reliability you callus always see if you can find old sanwa or futaba am reciever and since they are fairly large you could remove the case and place your modern tiny reciever inside with some padding so it looks vintage and is still 2.4…. Even glueing the antennae to the case to replicate the original look…. Just a thought, but with about 15 minutes worth of work and take your vintage model to the next level!! Would make a good video for the 100% vintage crowd…
Great video Gavin. The plastic nuts on the front wheels and shock mounts were an Associated thing, so this is historically correct. They were plastic on my original RC10T but after 20+ years they get worn and were impossible to find so I replaced with nyloc nuts a while ago. Incidentally, I assume all the screws and nuts are imperial to be correct which is a pain as replacements are harder to source in the UK. Also looking forward to your Cougar build too as I have just finished my chassis build which went pretty well. Cheers.
The driveshaft misalignment was a known issue when these were released. Associated sent out replacement parts at the time. Probably a bit hard to ask for them now!
Great video as always Gavin!! In it about time we had a tour of your shelfs in the back ground? I think we all would love to see all the car's now you filled all your slots up? cheers Gav
I did three collection videos this month covering road, rally and buggies. I need to make another part 2 biggie vides. You can find them on the channel videos page 👍🏻
Great video, can't wait to see you run it. Should be competitive! If possible, would you be willing to share the contact info for the professional painter you used? I'd love to get one of my bodies painted like that.
Gavin, do get RC10 upgrades from JConcepts before they run out of stock. Things like aluminium steering bell crank set, carbon fibre shock towers, aluminium rear motor plate, carbon battery mount etc. You know, once their gone, their gone!
It is a good car. I’ve enjoyed mine and I’m sure you’ll love yours. See if you can get a Thorp Dirt Burners gear set for it, 48P heaven. Wish you would talk about what you’re doing during the build rather than having the music. We like to hear you not really the tunes. Thanks.
and you stripped them didn't you ;) those screws are terrible, soft aluminum and they didn't seem to fit a standard phillips properly - JIS screwdriver fit better.
Your builds are getting better and better. I blame you for the 3 RC10s I got this year ;-) Getting one never crossed my mind before and they are now my favourite cars in the collection along with the Schumacher Cats! May I ask who painted your RC10 bodies?
Yes, I would also like to know who painted the body and where the decals came from. I have this exact body, painted by Andy of Andys, but cannot for the life of me find the decals ANYWHERE :(
Hi Gavin, I surprised that you did not use a Novak ESC. Your pre-painted body has the "Novak" logo on it. When I used to race this car I only used a Novak ESC. Thoughts?
@@RCKickschannel I understand. I would like to see your RC10 raced against a Schumacher buggy from the same time period. I think it would be interesting to see how they compare and contrast each other. Thoughts?

firstly: love the Philipps screws on the bottom with all the cross heads lined up with each other lol.. some over tight and probably some too loose. lol... and secondly: SOMEONE SIGN UP AS A PATREON SO GAV CAN BUY HIMSELF A DECENT HEX WRENCH! seeing those allen keys at work causes emotional damage!!!. lol.... just messin with you. cool vid Gav. keep up the good work.. but seriously though, please please stop using allen keys.. please. greetz from Bavaria Germany.
I recall setting up the diff, per the directions, WAY back in the day and after a few shakedown runs, denouncing the setting as almost undrivable! I had to let some tension off of the thrust bearing to give the rearend some compliance. Surely, this is much more of a shelf queen, and maybe your build technique is better, but be warned, it may be off and require some fiddling and adjusting to make it work properly. And if you think the bellcrank on this one wasn't up to snuff with not having bearings, the original RC10 was simply dreck! It was THE weakest part of the original design, IMO.
RC kicks know world 🌎 Round pretty universal for a chassis just the body that looks different you should put a Novak esc and motor combo if you ask me their all universal because other companies rename them ez parts availability and cheeper manufacturing that's why I prefer Traxxas for a American racing company who ever lit a firework with a short fuse man that's scary anyways every beginning has a end witch chapter are we on in the channel is the beginning middle or end
Great build.
EPIC SOUNDTRACK!!

Thanks and yes I agree. Front cabs are not the best for sure.
The buggy came out beautiful and the video was excellent. Brian Kinwald would be proud.
Absolutely stunning buggy !😍
Thanks, I’m super chuffed. Keep an eye out, I have something to join this coming on the show real soon 👍🏻👍🏻
Looks frickin sweet!
Thanks :)

Top stuff. I thought it might have been one of Sharkfat's bodies but I'm not sure it is
Some great nostalgia. I always liked associated for simplicity and performance

The big one is imperial and metric being a US buggy vs the Tamiya, Schumacher and Kyosho being Japanese & English.
What an awesome looking vintage buggy, I love it!!
Nice!!!
Great vid! Cheers mate , from an Aussie, living in China, and just about to be run over by a typhoon. Happy days!
I hope things are going OK for you? I don’t hear great things currently with things changing for the worst.
Cool build was super curious when you put the tires on and they rubber was dull what did you use to make them so shiny?

For the receiver I think you should buy an old Acoms 27mhz unit and put the radiolink receiver inside the case. Vintage looks with modern performance.
I think that’s a great idea

Where did you find those decals?
Love it - id love one to go with my Graphite Team Car. But my pockets arent as deep as they need to be to get one.
I'd love an RC10, love my Team Associated but only have modern ones sadly

I’ll check as I moved them around a bit while fitting the body. 👍🏻

that car looks very early 90`s like nickelodeon slimed it =) =)
What was the fluid you put on the rear tires?
I believe just some oil to remove the white film…
Silicon oil
