    I’ve been using the EVO from Micronovelty for more than 2 years to charge 4 devices when traveling: iPhone, iPad, electric razor and battery bank. It has worked perfectly in all the places I’ve visited, and it is outstandingly convenient and minimalist. I hope the company will develop an updated version with usb c and increased wattage.

    I have blown up a many of these devices and hotel circuits in my lifetime (sorry hotel at Schipol airport). I now use these in conjunction with a small powerstrip that is a surge protector. I'll sacrifice the powerstrip to save the life of my devices. Or I will use these with an adapter with a USB Type C port to charge my powerbank batteries then charge my devices with the fully charged powerbank.

    • @PackingLess

      Thats a great idea, which power strip do you use?

      I'm curious what kind of devices were you using that you blow up a hotel circuit? laptops maybe or hair dryer? I haven't had any bad experience and I want to avoid it as much as possible. I'm curious because my adapters and extensions are not exactly high quality and don't have any surge protection or any of that stuff that I know off.

    Skross have a new adapter with a fancy "Scandinavian" design and I might buy it because of it's looks.

      Having said that, that bagel adaptor seems like a brilliant one and I should get one instead.

      I dont think the new 'design' has any usb ports, but it does look fancy. The Bagel is really the best in terms of available ports.

    I'm no expert, but based on the reading I did a few years ago, all modern device chargers are double insulated (I think that was the term) which reduces/removes the need for a ground. I think the symbol is two concentric squares which should be printed on the charger. If you're plugging in a hair dryer or a kettle though, that likely won't be insulated so could be more dangerous.
    Besides, not all countries have outlets that even accept ground pins (quite uncommon in Japan, for example)

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats great info thanks for that, its great to know. Yes travelling around Japan I noticed that, but never had any problems charging up

      @starbase218 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I had a very bulky Brennenstuhl travel adapter. It consisted of an grounded type F socket and several modules for all the plugs it could adapt to, each with a ground connector as well. I think I used it on a few trips, and then realised I never travel with my washing machine or kettle. ;)
      One thing I do want to say is that, even though I just ordered the Road Warrior, I wonder if it completely complies with British regulations; it doesn't appear to have a fuse, and the live and neutral prongs have a round profile, not a rectangular one.

    Mogics have a successful Kickstarter for an update to the Bagel (called Super Bagel) with a fast charge (18watt PD) USB-C replacing one of the existing USBs (which are 10watt) and resettable fuse. I love the existing one. I think it is a little heavier than most because of the cable. But the extension lead often takes the pressure off sockets when using heavy power adapters (such as my MacBook one). That said, I’m also looking to replace that with the forthcoming MU2 GaN adapter which I think is going to be a good choice for us in the UK. And that will have a European and US Adapter as well. So perhaps that will change things. Lots of great options these days for when we can start travelling again.

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh thats very interesting thanks for the update. Yes it will be interesting to see adapters get smaller with the GaN options coming out soon. Hope we can travel soon again too.

    Hi. I am looking to buy a separate USB charger. I see some come with 2 usb ports. I think it says 5V. So if 2 are being used, it suppose to split, I supose. Is 2.5 or 5V very slow or fast or does it depend on the cable ? thanks.

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey great question, its quite confusing I agree, but in general you need a power cable that can deliver the full amount of power that the charger outputs. 5v is pretty standard so most chargers should do it. For whichever charger you're looking at their product page should show how much each port draws if used alone or simultaneously. Generally each voltage like 5v will output different amps, like 5v 2.4a, but its the wattage that changes. Like a 65w charger might split to one 45w and one 12w, or if only using one its 65w, like the zendure passport is like that.

    A UK plug has rectangular shaped prongs, not circular. I don’t think the plug at 1:10 would fit.

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct, however the round circles are slightly smaller than the rectangles and fit within them, while touching the electrical contacts, so it does work its just a slightly less secure fit

    With the Road Warrior....you’re missing the piece that goes over the end plugs and slides into the adapter to cover grounding pins. I have two Road Warriors. They are like yours but have that extra section

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for the comment. I bought mine in Japan from an official retailer a few years ago now. It definitely didnt come with the cover you're talking about. But I just looked it up and it seems theres a newer upgraded version that includes a cover and a 'lock' switch both of which my older version doesn't have. Looks like they improved it so I might need to get the new one and test it out :)

    Thanks for this video. I'm going to be moving to Japan soon and the laptop that I use is a Dell G7, which has a 3 pin AC plug, and I am wondering which one would work in Japan? I can't seem to find any 3 pin AU that would work in Japan. Would any of the ones you put up on review work?

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Japan they use a 2 pin US style plug. And the 3 pin AU plugs into most adapters. The bottom pin is just the grounding and few adapters have grounding

      @@PackingLess ah yes, my issue was that, i'm leaving this weekend, no time to order one, and once I arrive, I'll be stuck in hotel quarantine for 3 days at least so I won't be able to buy one until i've done my quarantine, meaning I'll be bored if I can't use my laptop while in hotel quarantine. Great video and thanks for your quick response. I managed to find a universal adaptor from a friend!

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats true, I find it hard to come by grounded ones. I guess adding the grounding makes the plugs a lot larger and bulkier and thus these multi plugs tend not to be grounded. But if you buy a single one>one country adapter it would be grounded because it doesnt have to be compact
