    To avoid breaking the binding on a brand new book, you can "open" a book by going through page by page slowly and sliding a finger down the middle of the binding or flat fingers over the middle. We used to do it at the library I worked at for new books so the binding didn't break easily. There is likely a video if you can't visualize what I am saying, it easy but takes some time so people don't do it. It will save the binding of hard covers and paperbacks.

      @silverstone3188 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!!! This works amazingly. I'm a medstudent and my books can get *thick.* Every time I get new books, I spent a couple minutes "breaking the spine." It really helps maintain the quality of the book for long term.

      flat fingers over the middle of the page? or inside/outside of the binding? or something else entirely? :D

    Thanks for showing all the different iterations, even the things that you tried and didn't keep! It's really encouraging to see the process :) I'm still struggling to find the balance between work and personal, and keeping track of priorities and todos... but your videos remind me that it's worth it to keep trying.
    Also (idk how to phrase this properly) I find it very comforting to watch planning-related videos from people like you who have a "normal" (I hate that word) job, I find it easier to relate. Or maybe youtube has only been showing me full-time youtubers and I've been missing out, idk. Point is, thank you for doing what you do!!

      So interesting! I had to look up the terminology, and now know that my grip is the dynamic quadrupod. What I already knew was I had a lucky escape from being forced to change in primary school. There was another American immigrant student in my class who happened to hold his pen the same way. The teacher imagined we had learned it in American schools and left us alone. Pure luck 😅

    One thing that I find helpful with the yearly tracker is to still use the tracker in the weekly section or to write the habits as to-dos at the top of my dailies and then update them every couple days to the big list. The big one is helpful for seeing patterns that I don't notice with the normal weekly trackers.

    I'm left-handed, and I love fountain pens, inks, and Tomoe River Paper so much, that I re-trained myself to write with my hand under the line so I wouldn't smudge. I used to write like you, or with an even more extreme over-hand. It took me about a year to re-train, I used the Spencerian method of handwriting. When I write in print, or use pencil or ball-point pen, I revert to my old over-handed style.

    I use the blank page at the beginning of each month to brainstorm all the things I want and need to cover in the month. Then based off that page I migrate to do's into the daily pages. I don't tend to go back to it during the month. If I've got a "loose" but priority important item on there that I've not assigned to a day, I'll stick a post it index tab on the top edge (where it's annoying enough that I'll get the item sorted so I can take the tab off....). Otherwise I just check back to the page when I'm brainstorming the following month. Ie it's kind of a WIP to do list page

    New to the channel so I’m not sure if you tried it or not but in the blank page at the beginning of the month, what about ways to achieve your monthly focus - sort of like a brainstorming of how to make it happen. Then the highlights could become something like achievements. Steps you took to accomplish that focus/goal.

    As someone below suggested blotting paper has been essential to my Hobonichi cousin use. I only use fountain pens and although I am not left handed I am not patient at waiting for ink to dry. With my blotting paper I don’t have to and it lasts forever. I have been using the same piece all 2023 in my cousin and the paper still looks brand new.

You've made me so happy - I've finally met my pen holding twin 😂 Re TRP and fountain pens, I have the same problem. My solution is that for my work planner I use a pencil because I need to be able to write without worrying about the ink, but for my journal and fun planners I hold a sheet of blotting paper over the part of the page that I've already written on so I can continue writing without smudging. Thanks so much for sharing your leftie pen struggles! ❤

    But I’ve been checking out your videos and really want to try it out. I started grad school this month and I think having a dedicated school planner that I can kind of journal in about school things I did that day sounds great.

    I bought a cousin for next year after using a jibun techo this year, but I had a similar realization that flipping back and forth to switch between weekly and daily isn’t really for me lol. I love using a todo list and time blocking for work, so the jibun techo works well for that. The cousin will end up being a daily journal, but I’m still debating what to do with the weekly pages 😅

    Me too! I’m a lefty with the same grip. My ex calls it “the claw” 😆 I’ve got a nice little callous on the knuckle of my ring finger and I am forever sweeping ink across the page. In high school I used to fold up a piece of notebook paper and put it under my hand as I wrote. PaperMate pens were the worst - they turned the side of my hand blue. Now I love the Staples brand OptiFlow rollerball pens. Nice and smooth ink flow but dries super fast on most papers. It’s fair on Tomoe. I keep a stash of them because people keep stealing them and I’m always afraid they’re being discontinued. Usually I end up going with Uni Jetstream rollerball, I get great control on all types of paper and it never smudges.
    I also have trouble with my fountain pens on Tomoe. It’s disappointing.

Do you skip writing for that day, write somewhere else, or do you ignore the printed dates altogether and just keep writing on the next page?

    Adding a second comment because I forgot to include that in the 1st....
    Would you consider adding subtitles to your videos? I think it would benefit a lot of people and might help you reach a wider audience. (For me personally, it would help me focus/retain information from your videos more easily as someone with ADHD. It would also help as a non-native English speaker)
    Auto-generated subs just aren't as good and can be hard to follow, especially when they inevitable mis-transcribe words and sentences.
    I understand if it's a lot to put in place, but it would mean a lot if you would just consider it :)

    • @NotebookOverloadd
      @NotebookOverloadd  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, super fair question to ask! As this channel grows and I can hopefully afford it, my intention is to pay someone to subtitle the videos properly. Until then, I have been going back into the videos after they're uploaded and have been changing the biggest mistakes in the auto-generated subs manually as doing subs completely from scratch is just too much of a time commitment for me if I want to get a video out each week. However, (in my opinion) a flaw in TH-cam's system is that it takes a few (sometimes more than a few) hours to generate the subs, so I had no chance to do it yesterday before I went to sleep. Subs are a super important accessibility feature and I hope to improve them asap. Thanks for watching. 💛
